As an old hippie, I embroidered all my jeans in the 70's ! Love that !
Ty for posting. I have altered so many jeans from straight legs to bells & from bells back to straight legs all before sergers were affordable for home use. I did hems differently than you demonstrated & cut out that bulk when folding it up. I love your European hem technique. And the floating loop around a straight stitch was new to me also. It was so nice to see a fresher on altering bell legs, plus I always pick up a new technique or 2 in your videos. I had taken every class possible in High school from basic sewing to tailoring plus my Mom was a tailor for Aryes Department store in her younger days. Your students are blessed to have you as a teacher. Ty again for posting, you are an inspiration!
Sew cute! To avoid any toe pokes or even to protect your traveling stitches from getting snagged, you could cover those inside travel stitches with a narrow band (1") of ultra light interfacing.
Or a cute bandana in case it shows
These jeans are absolutely lovely. They remind me so much of a pair that I embroidered on in my teenage years in the 70s.
Me too! I embroidered my jeans in the 70s. I also put a strip of orange hairpin lace down my boyfriend's jeans.
I think the slit adds a modern touch and updates the idea.
That triangle patch reminds me of the triangles the girls sewed into their stovepipe leg jeans to make bellbottoms.
I can see teenagers all over your school showing up with embroidered jeans this fall! So dang creative.
Back in the 70’s my sister was so tall she had a hard time finding long enough so she would find beautiful embroidered ribbons and would add them to the bottom of her bell bottoms. This reminded me of her cool creations. She also added a triangle of denim to the center back cause she loved a wide bell.
" You know me, I kinda get excited and jump right in" Don't change. That's why I love watching.... it's infectious!! Looking at pairs of jeans to attack right now.... 😂😍🥰
Oh I wish I had known that trick for altering the inseam at the crotch area years ago! These jeans are so stylish in a cool Boho manner. The embroidery was much easier than I imagined. I love these with the open toed sandals. Thank you Catherine!
I use tackle boxes for my embroidery thread. I wrap on the spools, and then the spaces are perfect for them. Similar to craft organizers, but better quality.
I loved your video! When you said you felt like you were a teenager in the 70s, I laughed because I was a teenager in the 70s and I embroidered my jeans. I loved creating embroidery patterns loved how they looked. Thank you for being an inspiration for a new generation.
I have an embroidery machine. You gave me great ideas to using my machine.
My figure is not as terrific as yours but I will make do and go for it.
Thanks for the ideas. You are a great teacher. 😁
Love the embroidery. Watching you stitch it reminded me of my youth. We couldn't sit down to watch TV unless we were doing some "fancy work", which usually meant embroidering dish towels or pillow cases.
I love how detailed you were in showing us how you copied her jeans with all the measurements.
Those are so darn cute. l love them. More inspiration for me to take to my denim stash. The crotch take in just worked amazing. I feel like I am back in the 70's adding flare to straight legs. 😁
Sooooooo cute!!!! I’m afraid my skills at altering clothing ARE NOT up to that but I can embroider! Maybe I’ll find a pair of bell bottoms that I can slit and embroider. Who knows! It could happen! Thank you for sharing!!
I love eveything about these jeans!
These are so cute. My wheels are turning as I think of a Christmas gift for my 21 year-old granddaughter who loves vintage
Having grown up in the period of time when adding embroidery to blue 👖 jeans was the hip thing to do I loved this project. 💖 💮✨🪡🧵✂️
I love how you took the back of the jeans in. Can you feel the additional seam when you wear them?
Nope, not at all!
@CatherineSews great! I'll be trying it soon. Thanks for always showing great techniques
That was sooooo much fun to watch!! I was a teen in the 70s and I would have loved those jeans! I’d love them now.
Just a thought... you might want to check out Flossaway plastic bags to store skeins. They are around 5"x3" with a zip closure. They have a hole punched in the corner so you can store them on a 2" ring binder. I have mine in colour shade order so it's easy to find the colour I want and open the ring at that point. Best of all I can store the pieces of thread I don't use in the bag without having to do any winding around something.
I made my daughter a pair of bell bottoms with some material she found in my stash. Embroidery around it would be so cute! A tip for tangles in your floss is to separate each strand and run it through beeswax and then put the three strands back together. It conditions the floss.
Catherine, I love each and every one of your videos. You amaze me with your creativity and ability to think outside the box. You’ve taught me so much and because of that my wardrobe is functional again and I’m not running out buying new clothes. I absolutely love up cycling and why we do it. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my inspiration and teaching me the love of recycling.
Much love from Newfoundland
@@darleneblackwood7386 what a lovely comment! Thank you so much, Darlene! 🇨🇦
What a fabulous idea! Your project looks just fantastic! Thank you for sharing the details, I can't wait to try this! 🪡
Just watched your channel for the first time and I am hooked. Thank you for the technique for turning straight into bell bottoms! Your embroidery is awesome! Thank you.
What a cool project! My grandmother taught me to embroider, but it was nice to have a refresher.
The jeans are so cute! I’ve got an old pair of flares and lots of embroidery floss-can’t wait to try this. Thanks, Catherine.
Those jeans are priceless & gorgeous on you! Thanks for the many tips & tricks you teach with such ease! Blessings to everyone 🤗🇨🇦
So, so, so, cute! Such a great video! You are being thrifty (I priced those jeans, yikes!) and kind to the planet. The way you took those in was a real eye opener. Total win! I am a total jeans girl. I started embroidering everything and wearing bell bottoms in the 70's and haven't stopped. Hey, I am an OG! I'm going to go raid my denim stash right now. Thank you
WOW! I'm not a denim person and certainly not a flower person but those jeans are smashing, and that crotch seam is brilliant. So inspiring❤
I'm in the process of embroidering lazy daisies all over a denim jacket. I'm even doing 'liberty cuffs', where did the inside of the cuff, so when it's turned up you can see flowers. Some nights it's hard to put it down!
This is one of my favorite videos from you…. Considering I never miss one… that says how much I love this. I wonder if there are pros and cons to add fusible interfacing on the underside of the embroidery? I’m thinking I would get my toe in the stitches and just thought it might be more secure. Thanks so much for another great tutorial. ❤ Diann
Catherine...great video! Loved your techniques & shortcuts. You have major skill pinning yourself for the restyle. Beautiful project!
You are fearless !!!! Great job !!😊 ❤
Love! I embroider on my jeans all the time. Even attempted Sashiko stitching on a pair that were getting thin or had rips.
I love Sashiko too!
Wow! I'm impressed! I'm trying a little Shashiko on my very worn terry cloth robe because I love it so much.
Yours are the best, most clearly explained tutorials! I’m a fan!
So clever, all your students will want to make them, also.❤
You doing such immaculate work is so inspirational. After watching you, I took care of a lot of detail tasks just around the house that I procrastinated but NEEDED to be done. A person living alone doesn’t have anyone else nagging, or even hinting. Turns out a gentle nudge of guilt from our own heart is all it takes, lol. “If she can go the extra mile like that, surely I can knock this thing out.” Why yes, I can. Thank you for your channel, Catherine. You are SAVING LIVES haha, well at least my kitchen & bathroom anyway
I want to do that when I get home from my trip!! I love the ideas you share with us. 💗
The embroidery really makes the jeans. I love the front pocket area too! ❤
Fabulous! Being that I was a teen in the 70s I will definitely be trying this rehab on a pair of thrifted or up cycling an old pair I have! Great video once again! I really look forward to seeing what you come up with each time! Thank you!❤
Yep, certainly did my share of embroidery on several items of clothing, I remember one waffle knit long underwear type tee I embroidered to death. Wish I had it, still, but I do believe I wore it out completely. Thanks for a trip down memory lane. ❤
❤️❤️❤️LOVE these! Wow, they turned out so cute! So many great tips, like the bobbin thread one. Thank you!
You always impress me with your innovative ideas and skills! I love your creative process. This video brought back a lot of memories when it comes to embroidery. I used to embroider a lot when I was much younger (mostly pillow cases). I have added embroidery to clothing too. A couple years ago I had a top that had glued-on metallic dots so I took them all off, washed the garment to remove most of the glue dots and then put embroidered flowers over what was left of the glue spots. Looks really cute and you can’t even tell anything else was ever on it. Those jeans turned out so cute and look great on you!
Those jeans are amazing. I'm doing a similar thing but I'm making my jeans from an altered pattern. I have 2 cut out and 1 pair I'm adding a ribbon down the side for some fun. The embroidered pair look great though I haven't embroidered since junior high back in the 1970's. I do have time with these projects since I won't need them until winter which, in Texas, isn't until January.
That was FUN! Thanks so much! I actually was looking for a video of how to cut out an embroidered piece & sew it on a pair of jeans, yet this struck me, so I watched to the end!
These pants turned out so cute!
Thanks for showing how to tie a knot with a short thread end!
These jeans are so adorable, I love this idea! You have the best closet!❤
They came out great❤. You are such a great teacher. Enjoyed watching it to the end. Thank you!
Stunning!!! Thank you for the inspiration to try more.
Great tutorial Catherine! These jeans are soooooo darn cute! I will definitely be doing a front slit with embroidery on a pair of my jeans. I love your channel! 💕
❤ This one is great timing. I’ve been dreaming of upcycling jeans and a jacket in the style of Lagenlook and Magnolia Pearl, except Fitted instead of their way oversized look. You look great!!
I’ve been doing the tuck method along jeans seams and all flat felled seams for years. I have to take in all pants as have thin legs. Like this method of making straight jeans into flared. Will try it. Thank you for all your creative ways to up cycle clothes
Very fun video! The jeans are so cute! Thank you.
This reminds me how much l used to love doing embroidery...hands are a bit of a problem these days 😢 You did a great job😊
The fitting portion is just what I need. I have a small bum and large waist and to get the back of my jeans to fit I have a waistband that cuts into me, rolls down and gives severe muffin top. Now I realize I should fit my waist and alter the inseam. Love it. I also love the embroidery.
Look up top down center out fitting method for pants
@@ninadukette3340 thank you.
Great transformation!!!!
Inspiration I absolutely needed. Thanks so much
I recently started following you and now I love your content. You are so talented. I loved this jeans. I remember this as trend when I was growing up( for me not 70s but later) like scattered flower on hem or pant legs was in trend . You have woken up my love for hand embroidery, not thst I am skilled in it but I have tried in past . I ll get the kit now 😊 and my girl is going to love this jeans
They are gorgeous! Well done! Makes me want to pull out all my embroidery stuff! 😂
Gorgeous work
Definitely techniques we can use. Wouldn't have tried taking in the inseam but now I might! Thank you.
I absolutely loved this project ❤️ Thank you so much 😊
What a fun project! You did a great job. 👍
Gorgeous embroidery work n lovely jeans to be proud of them when you wear them.
Love'em Catherine. Goin back in time!!
This Denim Transformation is so useful!
Fantastic idea!
I've learned a lot from this video. Thank you!
Amazing! I'm going to have to try this.
Thank you for your suggestions. I got the clover seam ripper. I need to get the rest.
Super cute! I so appreciated this lesson because it taught me how to take a boring pair of jeans to snazzy flares😊. Great pant directions and easy to follow needlepointing.
Super cool. Just live your videos ❤️❤️
Wow stunning result . Lots of work. But beautiful
These really look cute ❤
Oh! That does take me back to the 60's and 70's :) Where did the time go? I shall be trying your fitting method on my shop bought jeans hoping it will reduce the [very] flat seat I now have! Thanks
Great video!!!
Great project, Catherine. I wonder if you used some iron on interfacing to back the embroidery to keep you from hooking the stuff in your pockets on the stitches and keep your toes from going through the floating stitches. I can't wait to try this myself. My granddaughter would love them I'm sure.
What wonderful idea!! Many greetings from Germany, Andrea!!
This is pure gold! Thank you Catherine! Could you tackle turning skinny jeans into straight legs? Could the slit be done at the side seam or have no slit at all? I’ve got a stack of skinny jeans that look terrible on me and I would love to alter them into something I would actually wear. Thank you in advance!
This is a really beautiful transformation! I want to embroider some of my own jeans now. I'd love to do the alterations too, but idk if I could do them as smoothly as you!
LOVE this one ❤
omg!!! i have had a pair of jeans I have no idea how to make fit better and I think I will have to give this a try. This was so helpful :D Your jeans turned out so cute i love them
Great trick, raising the rise on those jeans!
As always, lovely
Cute, cute cute!!!
Very sweet bell bottoms!
Adorable!
So cute!
Mayve a few dots or thin stripe of fabric glue along the back of the threads would help prevent catching your toes or fingers in the thread.
Love it!
So cute!❤
That's so nice. Looks shop bought.
Your jeans are so cute
I liked the way you made adjustments to your jeans. The waistband is too high on my jeans, would I make the same crutch shortening to remedy it? Thanks 🙏
Too CUTE! 😍
Beautiful
Super cute.
I love the embroidery. Reminds me of the 70's too. I have a question about the friction markers. I've used markers that don't want to come off if they are left on the fabric too long. How did these markers do when it took you 2 weeks to finish? Just wondering.
