On average it takes 2 years to get all the bugs & gremlins fixed in a new RV. Many get frustrated and sell or trade in their unit before all items are fixed.

“Josh the RV Nerd” has the best RV content out there. He is a true consumer advocate and extremely helpful for first time buyers.
Thank you Bish’s for giving Josh the opportunity to share his wisdom with us so truthfully!!

I already thanked you in beginning of this video but after consuming all the content we want to thank both Josh and Bish’s for their contributions.

Josh as you say, you are blessed and we are blessed there is someone like you to keep us informed on what's happening around you and for showing us all the amazing RVs that are out there. You make us smile with things like "snack, crap and nap", you help us make major decisions that impact our families and friends. Please know for every one comment you see there are 100 others that feel the same way that don't comment. So consider this as 100 people saying we are blessed to have you.

Not to mention in 2018 a gallon of unleaded was $2.57 vs. $5.01. Every way you slice it- RV’ing is a lot more money to participate. Terrific video!

I've had 4 different RVs (2- Coachman, 1-Shasta, and 1- Keystone) and I suggest the RV manufactures take advantage of the slow down to train the employees on quality construction. I had a brand new Keystone with a side wall leak (delamination) on the first time out. It went back to the seller who replaced the leaking wall (caused by the cable bracket). I took it back again for the floor swelling below the wall that was repaired previously. Now, the other wall that connects to the replaced wall has delamination. The Keystone has been stored under a carport when not in use since we purchased it new. *All of our RVs have been purchased new.

I was greeted at the door by an employee who pointed me to the parts department. Another employee showed me the water pumps and answered all my questions. Everyone was polite and very knowledgeable about the products. This is a wonderful dealership with great employees. I think you are working for a wonderful organization.

The reason it seems like it’s not a buyers market or sellers market is because we’re at the tippy top of the reversing market trend, from scarcity and high prices, to growing inventory and lower demand. As the lots get filled with new RVs that are over 1 year old, then we’ll start seeing the competing fire sales. That’s how a free market works, perfectly.

Dealers will do everything to hold off reducing prices, but if you're browsing a lot stuffed to the gills with unsold (and aging) units the game will be up.
It's going to start hurting the manufacturers when they're forced to increase their incentives back to the dealers to give them wiggle room to sell these things.

  • @Live_Concepts

Completely off topic- however, it’s refreshing to see you walk around your entire dealership and not one slide-out is open. I have five dealerships near me - one national chain, one regional chain, and three small, independent dealers and they all have ALL the slides open ALL the time. Some have been open since this winter. Not that they are getting damaged, but I can’t imagine that some of them aren’t. Especially when they are not leveled properly and don’t have their stabilizers down. I remember you talking about this in one of your videos a while back and can’t help but notice it now when I pass a dealership.

Thanks for another interesting update, Josh! I'm glad you mentioned CCC. As a FTer, CCC is critically important to me. But I think it is a piece of data that is often overlooked, especially by newer RVers. It is so easy (and dangerous) to overload an RV, when you add all your personal items, toys & campsite accoutrements.
This happened to friends of ours when they bought their first RV, they actually didn't consider CCC at all. They loaded up & headed out, only to discover later that they were very seriously overweight. And the RV was too heavy also. 😉😊

Josh: This month’s RV industry update might apply much broader than just to the RV industry. The decrease in prices for lumber, aluminum and steel, the closing of some plants, the manufacturer’s cutback in production hours, the decrease in units shipped from the manufacturer’s, dealer cutbacks on unit orders, the increase in unsold inventory, the continuing inflation in both wholesale and retail invoice prices, when all these factors are taken together, these indicators just might be saying “RECESSION is coming”. What you’ve indirectly mentioned are some key leading economic indicators used by the Fed. For example, nonfarm payroll employment, industrial production/capacity utilization, retail sales, personal consumption expenditures, business to business sales and Inventories and light weight vehicle sales. Resprctfully, W.S.

That's half a million or more each year. So, by the end of this year in 3 years, 1,500,000 RV's will have been produced. Answer me this; how many new RV camping sites have been built? Answer; not many. Selling 500,000 units per year into a market with zero new campsites (even accounting for replacement RV's where old ones are taken out of service) is a problem with no solution.
We have a 2021 Jayco 24RL. We enjoy it and take a grandkid with us often. But, we have to start very early in the year trying to reserve campsites even though we don't really know our schedules later in the summer. RV's are not like automobiles, though the roadways are choked with cars in some areas of the country. To use one, you need a campsite in a location and at a time that fits your needs. This is getting more and more difficult.
There is a recession coming and things are going to be quite different economically in about 9 months.

    • @RVMiles
      @RVMiles 2 роки тому +6

Max, I think you'd be surprised at the number of new campsites. 80,000 were expected to be added last year according to a survey of park owners by their trade association. I'm not sure the number this year. Unfortunately, very few of those are state/county/federal campsites, and most are really expensive resorts. But there has been a boom in campground construction as well.

I bought the well taken care of used RV and he threw in everything I was gonna have to buy like a water softener, heavy duty hitch, stabilizer bars, all the hoses, new canopy, upgraded propane tanks from 20lb to 30 lb, tools and even camping gear. I saved myself $15-$20k. Even though I didn’t buy the RV I was thinking of buying I’m fine with the purchase because it has everything I needed and wanted. I would agree that sales have slipped and inventories are building. That view is based on RV dealerships that we have driven by in the last few months and have actually visited. It was bound to happen. One point you made was that manufacturers have kept their foot on the accelerator of producing RVs in spite of seeing a slow down in purchases. If there was any realization of a hint of slowing sales, the manufacturers of this consumer discretionary product should have adjusted production accordingly.

As a manufacturer, even though a component has dropped in price, what we have in stock that was purchased at higher prices takes time to get used up and the individual component is only part of the overall cost of a finished unit. Obviously some components have a significantly greater influence in total pricing than other components.

Manufacturers will need to start building better quality products, id you can't get warranty work completed, then there's no reason to buy new vs used. If in the end you have to pay for repair costs because it sits and you aren't using it, then your warranty will timeout and you would have been better off buying a cheaper used vehicle and still be liable for repairs and save money in the long-term. Besides I would not buy a RV made in 2021&2022. Quality right now is horrible . All this will long-term hurt the RV industry if quality doesn't get better quickly. Case in point, look at what happened to the American car manufacturers, RV'S will price themselves out and travel will return to hotels and airbnb's if manufacturers don't wake up to what's going on in the world and industries. I hope not, but beyond our control. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Thanks for all your doing

Kind of like you mentioned the VIN# between a 2022 and a 2023 RV would be a rise in price, so was the cute, little "Metropolitan". Back in the early 1950's, both "Nash" and "Hudson" decided to produce a smaller car for mostly city driving/commuting/errands. With the assistance of British manufacturer "Austin-Healey", they designed and built an adorable 2 + 2 seat coupe and convertible, especially suited for women/housewives/ mothers. It had a tiny 4 cylinder engine, a 4 speed column shift, optional radio & heater. There was no trunk lid... luggage was passed through a fold-down rear seat. Door vent windows were finally added toward the end of the run. But as you stated about RV updates, whatever leftover models "Metropolitan" had left on hand suddenly became NEW!!! So, technically, a leftover 1959 became a "BRAND NEW!" 1960... UGH... 😡

There will have to be some inducements to get people to look at the 2022's. I know there used to be model change allowances given to dealerships on cars but will the rv manufactures give the same kind of inducements to dealers for 2022 models that have been sitting on the dealership lots for 6 to 8 months because of consumer demand falloff now?

Lazy Daze - Having lived my entire life in the western U.S., I've seen those motorhomes on the road for years and years. Quite frankly, didn't know they were still actually making new RVs, so it's sad to hear that they finally closed up shop!
2023 Model Year Rollout - Not excited to hear this news. It seems like we had only one year of industry-wide acceptance of a July-June model year and I fear this is going to be an excuse to go back to coming out with the new models when each mfg feels like it...and worse yet, 'half-year' new models. The dreaded 'early 2023 model' vs. the 'late 2023' model of the same floorplan. This is NOT good news! And an even bigger wish is that manufacturers could actually get their product catalogs out when they release their new models...and not in Nov/Dec every year.
"Buyer's Market" - Hopefully the pendulum is swinging back to buyers but I think what you're describing now is more normal market conditions. It's like when the local 'hype-hot' real estate markets finally slow down and homes sit "on the market" for 2-4 weeks, everyone starts to lament how "bad" the market is...when in fact that's just a "normal" market. How soon we forget! Bad markets are when homes/rvs sit on the market/lot for months and months...or longer.
Low CCC Becoming a Problem - Amen!!!!! Especially when you realize that CCC doesn't account for the other things that you HAVE TO HAVE before you leave home to go camping including water weight, battery weight, and propane weight before you even get to clothes, food, power cords, water/sewer accessories, etc., etc., etc. I really wish mfgs would build for CCC of 30%-35% of the total GVWR no matter the size of the unit.

Manufacturers are still putting out units weekly but some are planning to have a few weeks shut down again in August as well. Imagine it will be pretty lean coming into the fall. Dealers will still have to carry 2023 inventory so I imagine a lot of the 22 models will be having to leave the lot for a sizable discount. Good for consumers but many dealers are going to have to start making it up on quantity at Slimmer margins. Hopefully the manufacturers are able to trim down their costs as well with the supply chain being restored for the most part

Several reasons are that those that got their RV's during Covid, rushed into it (1) having the wrong vehicle to tow it, (2) HOA or (3) storage is way more expensive to keep in storage. ...well, I suppose you could always buy an airstream or scamp. I've never owned one, but in addition to scamp, casita looks like an awesome small rv. Wife and I toured the factory in Texas a while back, ...she thinks they're too small, but to me, they seem just right. You can sleep in it, cook in it, and even get them with a toilet/shower and an AC/heat unit. What else do you need? Presumably, you are taking them somewhere where the purpose is to be in that place, not to hang out in an RV all day.

@@eventhisidistaken I would but I have a small addiction to my motorcycle that kind of scratches those off the list. I think I've come to the fact I'm just going to have to buy an aluminum enclosed trailer and build it out to my needs.

Just purchased our very first RV, never used 2020 Keystone Springdale 298BH FOR $23K, ask was $29k. When we got insurance quote’s valuation came in at $27-29K depending on insurance company providing the quote. We think we did okay based on that information. We will upgrade in the future but that will require a huge investment in a newer truck, mine is a 2000 Excursion 7.3 diesel. Going to a fifth wheel is a huge deal but we like the space and movable house on wheels design.
