    Incredibly high quality content, well done! Just a small suggestion, maybe turn the volume on your voice just a few decibels up, it intermeshed with the music a bit too much for my taste (though it could just be me).

      Agree with this, although I found the music so annoying I had to stop watching. It's not that the music is bad, it's pretty good - it just distracts me totally.

      It's a bit loud and really overshadows your narration. Aside from that I'm really enjoying it 👍

    i love it but your voice is low in the mix, or the way you pronounce things makes it tough to parse (could be the accent) . other than that its good mixed analysis and super interesting to listen to

    The editing style, mixed with the sound track, gameplay, interesting narrative, and timing makes for a really good watch.

    The way to use tanks while assaulting an urban position is as fire support. Infantry moves in, runs into trouble, calls for fire support. Rince and repeat. Also a liberal use of smoke to mask the approach.

    • @unremarkablesunray
      @unremarkablesunray  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah that was certainly a big lesson for me, never ever assume a route is safe until I've sent dismounted infantry forward and from a gaming perspective always take a break if I'm getting turn fatigue/sloppy.

    Oh, just found about your channel.. this is very high level content. Although the Kriegsburg scenario is quite interesting from the map design, I find the map itself and the layout of the town to be very American. From the way houses are placed, the split highway to the traffic lights being the opposite side of the crossroads. But that doesn't change the high quality of your video.

    • @unremarkablesunray
      @unremarkablesunray  3 місяці тому +4

      Ha, that's a really good spot, I hadn't noticed the traffic lights detail. Thanks for the comment, hope I can keep up the quality or in some way continue articulating the interesting thing I'm learning on the way.

      The map is also very flat. I don't think a European 'village' (honestly, it looks like it has only slightly more houses in it than the hamlet _I_ live in...which is little more than a farm, its outbuildings and a more modern terrace or two) would be built directly onto a dual carriageway like that. The 'main road with shops' style would only really work if there were several hundred houses in the settlement, covering probably a quarter of the total map area, with the dual carriageway running _past_ the village, with access roads leading to the built up area.
      Maps can be hard, though. My advice would be to look at a map of the real world (something like Google Earth is a great resource for mapmaking), and remember that people need a reason to build a settlement...usually some kind of terrain feature that makes it advantageous to build there (often, but not always, water sources).

    • @MrFusselig
      @MrFusselig 3 місяці тому +1

      @@derkylos That's another thing. Germany doesn't have dual carriageways like that. An Autobahn is the equivalent of a Highway, it doesn't have any direct connections to anything despite driveway exits and entrances. The next bigger road is a "Bundesstraße", which would not be build in a dual way like it's on Kriegsburg.

    • @derkylos

      @@MrFusselig Yeah. I think it's an American thing to have a multi lane road run through the middle of a town. I know of one town here (in the UK) which has a motorway end in it, and the junction is a complete nightmare. Much more common is for the multi lane roads to run past the settlement and for smaller access roads to lead off to a 'main street'.
      However, many videogame maps seem to favour the style of having shops and houses built right onto the multi lane road...which would be incredibly uncomfortable for the residents in terms of noise and regular pollution (not to mention, potentially fatal. I used to live near a fast (60 mph) single lane road that had houses alongside it, and the number of pedestrians that were hit crossing the road was alarming. Now, scale that up to two lanes each way traveling at 70 mph and you have an accident waiting to happen. In fact, I think you're not allowed to cross dual carriageways as a pedestrian in the UK (it's been a while since I've lived near one)).

      @@derkylos Wide roads are easier to build and navigate in games. But it really distorts the advantage dismounted infantry has in (even small) urban areas.
      And yes this is very much a hamlet, barely a village at all. In Germany it would likely not even be it's own municipality. It would belong to a larger village or town.

    This is awesome content. What do you think of Storrs opinion about the IFV class of vehicles?

    • @unremarkablesunray
      @unremarkablesunray  3 місяці тому

      I believe he argued against IFVs, but I can't remember if that was specific to a general war. It was an interesting perspective, even if it challenged my understanding a bit, but then my personal experience only ever really extended to protected patrol vehicles, and even then I was just along for a ride so I'd defer to his greater command of the subject :) But yeah I'm always interested when I find something counterintuitive like this.

    • @derkylos
      @derkylos 3 місяці тому

      If nothing else, IFVs are great for their psychological benefits. IIRC, in Vietnam, US soldiers rode on the outside of M113s, leaving them exposed to small arms fire and providing no benefit over simply using unarmoured trucks. With IFVs usually designed to allow the passengers to at least observe, if not engage with, the battlefield, the occupants are able to make a better assessment of battlefield conditions and stop imagining every bump in the road as an RPG impact.

    Dude, just think about two boxers with compatible skill levels. They will beat each other up pretty badly. You need an advantage to win. If one side has a firepower advantage, that side will always win. That's just how it is. This is why NATO fancy toys did not provide Ukronazis with an advantage to win the fight. Leopards, Tigers, M1 all got destroyed during NATO planned offensive. Had US sent Ukraine thousands of M1s and Bradeleys with even M198s, they would have crushed Russian forces. PS. Ukis did not use Tigers, but I just wanted to ephesize that you are the Nazis in this fight. Bad guys.

      Keep on saying, perhaps, I don't care about politics, it's geopolitical as well I flush them away. I don't interest in belief poops, none a religious fool. I also never care about your bunch of ideology, not even from your greatest leader - I disregard it all. And I don't bother to tell all about the nationality and nationalist/ism go to die, calling me a nazi & fascist, won't destroy my life even put a real weapon front at me, because I'm not worried about it. The real nazis and fascists are yourselves, not someone else.
      Besides, I am not American, not European, non-anything. But if you still want to call me a nazi or fascist, then go ahead, keep on here screaming your garbage.
