This music brings back many wonderful memories. My father use to sing this song to me when I was a little girl, & often took me & my mother polka dancing. Though my parents divorced, my father still took me dancing every now & then. He was a very good polka dancer & women were constantly asking him to dance. Of course I didn't like having to share him - lol. He's been gone 16 yrs now. How I miss dancing with him! Thanks for sharing the video - you brought some needed SUNSHINE to my day!
Tonight, I'm revisitng my past. As a child, we would go to the family weddings and they always had a Polka band. They played at Plonja Hall in Manayunk, Philadelphia. The soind of the drums and horns blaring around he hillside, ah, the memories!

I think that Neil Diamond's daddy taught Neil "You Are My Sunshine," in Neil's 1980 remake of "The Jazz Singer." I didn't think that Weird Al Yankovic, is any relation to Frankie Yankovic. However, Frankie's 1963 recording of "Who Stole the Keeshka?" (Columbia 4-42680) does sound a little like something that Weird Al Yankovic might have recorded.
Thanks for this posting Joe. I read that Frankie recorded this song with Doris Day. How did that come about? Doris Day was a huge movie star back then, I am only 39 so excuse my question but was Frankie that mainstream and known back then when he recorded with Doris Day? Also, was the song done in a polka style or was it more of a pop version of it when he recorded it with her? Thanks again!
Frank was very mainstream back in the day and played across the country, including Hollywood and Vegas. Doris Day recorded several tunes with Franks Band in addition to “You Are My Sunshine “.
@@joegodina I was surprised to learn that Vegas has a large Ukrainian, Polish, and Eastern European community. Just wasn't expecting it. Many of the performers and acrobats are from Ukraine. Never anticipated that I'd be making pierogies with the church ladies (and men) again as I did in Johnstown.
Great singing!! Who's the fella on the second accordion?

Dave B BTW they were all Polka’s. They were very popular then, even the big bands of the time played them.
