The one shot style of this film absolutely makes it feel like you are literally on the mission with them. Had the movie been made with the traditional cuts etc it would have been a totally different experience.
The atmosphere of the Carnage was what kept me on the edge of my sit......no stupid one liners trying to hard to make you smirk....no oversexualized divas running around, no feelings of one individual (hero in superhero flicks) mattered more than the rest of the world...............it was simply a brutal display of chaos that only war and those who experienced first hand could provide.!!! It was a really well done film....better than all that super CG convoluted garbage that we get on a regular basis now days.!!!!

I pretty much never react to jump-scares when watching movies these days, they’re mostly super predictable and usually nothing more than a loud scream (especially in horror movies). But the scene in this with the rat got me. It got me good.
Sam Mendes nailed it in story telling, loved the technical work on camera movements and create tension all around the situation and location. Sequence shot is so powerful to make you feel you’re here. I agree and thanks for the cool content Jeremy :)) cheers
I'm in the Army and I had the pleasure to see a advanced screening of this movie. I honestly cant believe I saw such an exceptional peace of filmmaking. This movie will resonate with you. Ricky Collins yep, that last scene was pretty memorable. I heard how a lot of people in a film crew detest very long takes like that as its a nightmare to set up, but Alfonso Cuarón was like, fuck it, this is happening. I absolutely love Children of Men for ending like that.

I clicked so fast. This was my most hyped film of all of 2019
Avengers Endgame has entered the chat..
@@factsoflife3408 Bitch, please, Joker is still the movie of the year.
The Irishman > Joker. Easy
Breaking Bad movie has also entered the chat..
This movie made me start looking for hiding germans
ItsJustAWaterMelon ohhh they’re out there! Always loook for the hun in the sun
Better late than never, I guess
shit, I saw it in Berlin. Bloody surrounded, and am British
It wasn't the Germans who were hiding, bud.
@@saeedvazirian hhaha well said
Didn't know the film was shot to feel like one continuous shot now I feel like I have to see it.
So you’re saying it’s a gimmick? I respect this one since it’s roger Deakins but this shit is gonna become a fad and get real old real fast
Frank Merker They’ve been doing this for years. It was a big thing each season on Daredevil.
The one shot style of this film absolutely makes it feel like you are literally on the mission with them. Had the movie been made with the traditional cuts etc it would have been a totally different experience.
2:44 “He’s playing defense the entire time” *Spoiler*
Dunkirk was amazing in the cinema - the sound itself was stunning.
Adam S made me puke
The atmosphere of the Carnage was what kept me on the edge of my sit......no stupid one liners trying to hard to make you smirk....no oversexualized divas running around, no feelings of one individual (hero in superhero flicks) mattered more than the rest of the world...............it was simply a brutal display of chaos that only war and those who experienced first hand could provide.!!! It was a really well done film....better than all that super CG convoluted garbage that we get on a regular basis now days.!!!!
Loved Dunkirk? Then I suppose that you'll have to go see 1917. 😎😎😎
It was so damn boring
@@thomasbell8451 pussy bitch
I hadn't even heard of this one, but now I'm interested.
Family: “What do you want for Christmas?”
Me: “Jeremy says I want to go see 1917.”
It literally felt like a virtual reality video game that you were apart of no movie has ever really done that absolutely phenomenal
I was fortunate enough to get invited to an early screening of this movie, and went in not knowing what to expect and not a huge fan of war movies in general. And I have to say it’s one of the best movies I’ve seen in awhile, and will definitely see it again when it comes to theaters. Just an overall great experience 👍🏼
Good war movies show exactly what it was like for the young men who served in that era. A well made war movie really is the pinnacle.
If there was one LAST movie to watch in a theater with my best friend before the Pandemic at a theater,. I am grateful it was 1917, so darn good. War stories (books, film...) are among my favorite.
The war movie that really immersed me was hacksaw ridge.
I just wish the gore wasnt so over the top.
Yes, this and Saving Private Ryan for me!
Mex The Taco I actually loved the gore in it
@@koberamirez1784 I don't mind gore, but the movie is great. Can't really share it to my circle of friends and family.
Great film
“I’m going baaaaaack to see my mother”
Newlvlups No “And all my looooooved ones who've gone on”
Spectre, yes, but not to forget Skyfall, that was a f...ing masterpiece.
There were 2 heart-attack moments for me; the rat-tripwire in the barracks and the first 8mm mauser crack over the broken bridge.
Just got out of the theatre... unexplainable experience. I’ve never loved a war movie more, and the cinematography at night... damn
I can recall "Fury" from recent memory
Dunkirk.
The Hulk Jabr Many didn’t like that one, but I did
Wide release this weekend. 1-10-20 can’t wait to see this.

Just saw it tonight. Best movie I've seen in a while. It's gripping and emotional, looks good and the music was amazing.
When the brother got the news... DAMN, it was a masterclass of emotion.
Whose here after watchin 1917
It was good

Me. I love it.
"I haven't felt like that in a war movie before... NEXT LEVEL".
I'm watching this Day 1 🤘
Can’t wait for this!
Quite frustrating that we here in Australia have to wait until January 9 for it to arrive in cinemas.
It comes out Jan 9 in the US too. At least where I live
3:10 ok now I’m a little scared to experience that 😅
Wondering if he's referring to that moment in the first trailer.
I watched it today in Australia with my Dad. That heart attack part that Jeremy spoke about really is a "I think I just shit my pants" moment. I think the whole audience thought the same. Awesome movie.
I Think He's Talking About The Trip Wire Scene With The Rat, Shit Was Loud
@@fabian5813 I saw that I was like "NO, stop that rat!' Stab it with your bayonet or something." Lol!
Fabian Rampage yeah that part and when the German shoots at him when he’s crossing the bridge
@@salamander337 LoL Same As Soon As He Saw The Trip Line I Thought Of The Rat
@@stevelewis8961 Yeah And Also When He Opens The Door And Shoots And Gets Shot In the Helmet. But Jeremy's Reaction Of Him Touching His Body Making Sure He's Alright Gives It Away That He's Talking About The Explosion
I pretty much never react to jump-scares when watching movies these days, they’re mostly super predictable and usually nothing more than a loud scream (especially in horror movies). But the scene in this with the rat got me. It got me good.
After 5 years of watching UA-cam , Jeremy is only one left I trust. The rest all sold out. Good on you Jeremy, a true fan critic.
Its filmed in one continuous shot and it makes you feel like you are apart of these two soldiers journey behind enemy lines to warn another company of them walking into a german trap. Best movie I've EVER SEEN. If this doesn't win best cinematography and best picture oscar then something is wrong with Hollywood. This movie makes you feel every guy wrenching emotion and the risk of crafing a perfect mistake free continuous shot to this film is astonishing they were able to pull this off. Astonishing experience. A true masterpiece of modern filmmaking!!!
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS MOVIE.
Ryan Corrigan I saw it today and I’ll tell u rn, ur gonna love it(u can check out my non spoiler review or my spoiler review on my channel)
It's absolutely insane
You won't be disappointed this movie was amazingly beautiful. Sam Mendes & Christopher Nolan rarely disappoints
Best war movie I’ve seen since saving private ryan
Dunkirk felt pretty real when watching it. I can still remember holding my breath when the ship starts sinking with them inside
I actually ducked for a sec when I heard the first gun shot
You sold me. I wanna see this movie now. I didn't even know it existed til I clicked.
“Children of men” has some war in it but it’s shot to feel as a one long take, and it’s pretty amazing!
One of my favorite Sci Fi movies ever made
It really wasn't made in one shot. There were only like 2-3 scenes that were around 6 minutes long, uncut.
@@thx500 It's probably the climax that makes some people remember it as one long take, because that was such a memorable scene.
Ricky Collins yep, that last scene was pretty memorable. I heard how a lot of people in a film crew detest very long takes like that as its a nightmare to set up, but Alfonso Cuarón was like, fuck it, this is happening. I absolutely love Children of Men for ending like that.
@@thx500 Same here, it added to the large list of reasons to love the movie.
I'm so excited but it's still 3 months away here in Finland
I saw it yesterday. His review is on point. The screen with his hand and the body? Ugh...
Just came back from see it. I'm not a film buff. However, Jeremy got this so incredible right. The camera operations and the cinematorgraphy is just outstanding. I will buy a 4K and 4K television, along with a powerful sound system. Incredible score. One factor this movie really makes you understand about combat soldier is the exhaustion that comes along around highly stressed environments. You really have to pay attention to the film. A lot of people didn't understand the ending and what it signifies the gift they've been given.
There's a scene in Atonement that resembles this style
The rescue at Dunkirk. Atonement is such a great film
@@chanelhenderson8460 Yes! It's a beautiful movie
I just walked out of the movie. It wrecked me. This movie is heartwarming, terrifying, and intense all at once. Great film experience.
MUST SEE:
The Lighthouse
Jojo Rabbit
Parasite
You fogot the irishman movie of the year
All great films. I’d say watch Parasite last. No matter how you feel about the other two, and you will feel some type of way, Parasite is geared to leave a great, lasting impression.
@Pluralizes Everythings joker was my fav movie this year.
@@PoppiesOfBlood Im excited for it just have to wait for it on Netflix. And I imagine Jeremy will check The Irishman out anyway. Just threw those movies in there because he tends to avoid alot of really good independent films.
@@PoppiesOfBlood not even close
The way the camera uses the characters movements to switch from the back to the front in the first trench scenes (and in other scenes), that upwards pan out when he enters the trench near the end. God, the cinematography of this movie is something that i cant even find words to describe, the camera is always where it should be, each "scene" is just perfect. This movie was one of the best cinematic experiences i have ever seen.
Scene where that soldier is singing a native song before battle is just amazing. Really felt I was there watching him sing and the audience in the theater I know it had the same feeling. 10 out a 10
Sam Mendes also directed Skyfall and American Beauty btw
You had me with Skyfall, but you lost me with American Beauty. That film has NOT aged well.
Definitely need to see this on a big cinema screen
Waiting for that death stranding review
3:00 he is talking about the mouse triggering the trip wire, i definitely felt that
*SPOLER*
Who had a heart attack with rat scene?
"This movie succeeded in all fronts."
I see what you did there.
This movie wasn't even on my radar but you sold me dude.
I will recommend this to my dad. He likes war and history movies.
That scene where he was climbing out of the river was so dark yet they didnt even focus on it. Its stuff like that that makes me love this movie
I can’t stop thinking about it. The soundtrack. The story. The acting. This movie deserves all of the praise it’s receiving.
This movie has been top of my list since day one.
That “pond” was likely a mine crater. Google Lochnagar Mine for one the largest. I’ve stood next to it & it’s beyond belief.
Spoilers:
Curious which super startling moment Jeremy was talking about: the one when the rat tripped the wire in the German bunker, or the soldier that shot-while getting shot and killed-Schofeld
Nick Zacek the rat scene.
the rat scene i think
I was wondering exactly the same thing lol. But I agree with the others, it's probably the rat.
Caught it a couple of hours ago. The cinematography and scenery was incredible. Don't know who the actors are, but they were so very real, and relatable. This is an epic film.
You really get a good mental image of the layout of their journey due to it all being seamless, it's awesome
Finally, another Awesometacular!
How many has Jeremy given this year?

Like everyone does. This SW trilogy is absolutely garbage. The force awakens was meh.....The last jedi was utterly bad
I will see this movie in a movie theater. I will not see rise of skywalker because it will suck.
Matt James it’s a Disney Plus stream for me. No rush to see it.
I hadn’t heard about this movie at all and now you got me hyped for this, Jeremy! Totally going to watch it when it comes out.
i feel like the main actor in this movie isn’t being talked about enough. He was absolutely incredible
