Yes. We enjoyed our differences...and gave room for others to be different. We wanted to see each person for who he/she was. Not surface race/skin. Even in to the 90s Michael Jackson said "I don't want to live my life being a color" In the 70s KC could be "black"...Charley Pride could be "white".....and we laughed at ourselves for limiting people because of their skin.
It was great how the Soul Train dancers were always experimenting with new dance moves and also clothing. It didn't always work out and sometimes they looked goofy, but nobody judged and it was always fun!

Yes. Most of us were very physical back then. The girls jump rope (double dutch), dance,gymnastics. Almost ALL us guys played basketball,softball,football. This was also the start of the Kung Fu era.

Soul train taught me to dance and I couldn't wait for the line. Didn't have a favorite style because I loved them all. They could no way duplicate it now because it was also a feeling.

I was talking about jobs. One of my friends got threatened on the job for an afro. She had to fix it in order to keep her job. And it's also like that on the news, you have never seen an afro make an appearance on set because it's not PROFESSIONAL enough.
I really enjoy watching these old videos of Soul Train. Love watching the hijinks, and fashions on the dance floor. The men were more creative, I think, in their moves. Me? Can't really dance, but one beer later and I can dance anything! lol! Thanks for the video.
I never missed a show I don't think...just the best. Loved going to disco's and dancing..learning from the awesome dancers. I lived in Hollywood at the time and it was super fun. Thanks Don..you made it happen for us. Keep it going up there! Love you.
I watched both Soul Train and American Bandstand every Saturday. This brings back many memories. But its amazing that there were such significant differences in fashion preferences between the dancers in each show.

You would have loved it, it was a time of turmoil but black families stuck together and treated their neighbors child like their own, I still look out for anyone or their child black or white, but in those days, you knew that love was there for our people if nothing else. We need to find that again.

Memories Saturday morning the cartoons were off, time to dance!
Soul train taught me to dance and I couldn't wait for the line. Didn't have a favorite style because I loved them all. They could no way duplicate it now because it was also a feeling.

I was talking about jobs. One of my friends got threatened on the job for an afro. She had to fix it in order to keep her job. And it's also like that on the news, you have never seen an afro make an appearance on set because it's not PROFESSIONAL enough.

I really enjoy watching these old videos of Soul Train. Love watching the hijinks, and fashions on the dance floor. The men were more creative, I think, in their moves. Me? Can't really dance, but one beer later and I can dance anything! lol! Thanks for the video.

I never missed a show I don't think...just the best. Loved going to disco's and dancing..learning from the awesome dancers. I lived in Hollywood at the time and it was super fun. Thanks Don..you made it happen for us. Keep it going up there! Love you.

I watched both Soul Train and American Bandstand every Saturday. This brings back many memories. But its amazing that there were such significant differences in fashion preferences between the dancers in each show.
