  • A son of two Hall of Famers, the Curlin colt out of the great racemare Beholder stamped his presence when he sold for $4 million at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. Now, days before he turns 2 years old, the chestnut is learning the ropes of the racetrack at Eddie Woods Stables. We checked in on the youngster here.

Beholder with Baffert would have won the Derby or Breeders Cup Classic 🥲. Can't wait to see this guy with Bob. Beholders recent babies have been really nice but sadly Mandella has them and he just can't get the most out of them. Will be so fun to see a Beholder with the GOAT. So many owners just knee cap their horses by sending them to the wrong trainer - Forbidden Kingdom is a great example. With Bob he is in the Kentucky Breeding shed now after winning multiple G1's

@@mikerelva6915Baffert has a dismal record w/ Curlins. Curlins develop late and Bob’s rush to get 2yr olds to the Derby does not mesh with how Curlins develop.

What of Beholder do they see in him? That would have been interesting to hear. He is a beauty. Strong personality, I wish him the best. And at least the young fellow doesn’t know what he cost.
Of course, I wish all of them the best-even the ugly ones. And we all know the ugly ones sometimes surprise us.

Bob talked about how Beholder was hot and a handful. This guy was rearing up in the ring and a handful then but is also very intelligent.
Beholder was very well balanced and athletic like this guy. Curlin has a great shoulder but is a long type of horse. This guy is more compact like Beholder, looks very fast. He also has the longish pasterns that both of his parents have. I know he will be good, but the question remains tho how long he will want. It was thought Beholder would be a sprinter but she was so brilliant she could get longer. Her Achilles heel was she never won while shipping, but I attribute that more to Mandella than anything else. His operation isn't as elite as Baffert's so they aren't really accustomed to shipping and competeting internationally.

A little over at the knee but so is Curlin & it didn’t hinder him any. I’m more concerned about the colt’s front pasterns, which are long and low angled. Otherwise he’s a good looking youngster.

Yeah he also has slopey pasterns and a slight club too, but Curlin and Beholder had long pastern too. Most importantly tho he really looks like an athlete, just a beautiful horse and his stride looks like silky smooth butter....so efficient, no curl, straight action and light hoof strike
Any horse can be nit picked physically, but what matters is can they run.
While looking thru the entire Spa catalog this guy just really popped out to me. I had no idea who his parents were and when I saw it was Beholder I knew he would sale top. Never thought it would be 4 million tho. I guess it makes sense tho as if he wins a G1 with his lines be will be a 100 million dollar stallion, synthesizing the two best stallions in the game.

For me the most important thing is if he can hold up to training & racing. Speed is irrelevant if he keeps having injuries or breaks down. Horses with long pasterns tend to have problems with the suspensories in their ankles & generally need to be nursed along.
He is a grand looking youngster & both his parents were pretty sound so fingers crossed he’s the same.

Thank God this colt is going to Bob and not Mandella 🙏 Mandella just can not get the most out of a horse, especially dirt males. He never won a single triple crown race even. Bob will atleast give him the best chance ever to succeed being the Tom Brady and Michael Jordan of trainers. This guy looks and carries himself like he is special. Can't wait to see him run! Amr Zedan and his team are geniuses, no one in the game comes close to their accuracy with dirt colts. Nearly every colt they pick ends up being a top horse.

Time will tell. Beholder's Uncle Mo colt couldn't run a lick. I wonder what he would have hammered down at public auction? This one looks more like Curlin. I think her daughters have more talent. Good luck to him no matter.

If breeding a champion to a champion was all it took to get another legendary horse, we’d be seeing a lot more legends than we do. Personally, I think too many times, mares are bred to whatever stallion is the top commercial producer of the moment , rather than studying pedigrees like the great breeders used to do. It’s such a waste of great genetics. I’m hoping this colt works out and does his parents proud.

    • @mikerelva6915
      @mikerelva6915 6 місяців тому

Totally agree. So many breeders bred stupidly, just throw a big name at a big name with no mind for how the pedigrees and lines blend together. The Curlin and Storm Cat line have been tried many times but is not that successful. Leslie Lady only had success with Storm Cat sires, and I WISH Beholder would go to Justify as they could line breed the Hennessy, it's an A+ nick, AND we know Leslie Lady loved Scat Daddy. Justify has been the best sire in the world the past half year too.
Solomini and Ride On Curlin we're both Curlin over Storm Cat, Beholder is CLEARLY a Blue Hen dam (Tamara, etc) and this colt looks unbelievably good. Bob Baffert and Donato Lanni really don't miss when they spend alot of money either - Muth, Arabian Knight, Taiba, Hejazi, Coach Prime, so I am very confident this horse will be very good
Zenyatta had an amazing broodmare pedigree, BUT, her connections were stupid and kept breeding her to random big names that were all routey and did not inject the speed that they needed so badly. The end result was a bunch of big slow horses and not even one of them has won a race yet. It's pathetic. And sad. If they cared more about making the best horse, breeding intelligently, Zenyatta would have some graded stakes winners by now. Atleast Beholder is being bred more intelligently, tho I still think they can do better.
