Bravo from Rwanda. In Rwanda the whole country cleans the last Saturday in each month they call it Umuganda or "working togethe❤r in common purpose to achieve an outcome ". Congratulations South Africa !❤
Rwanda is the example of how to clean a country or city that is why they are called a cleanest country in Africa is someone from that country congratulates us and tell us how they do it that is not a comparison but it's encouragement to keep going it's always my wish to see South Africans adopting what what Rwandese do 🤔 let hope this is the beginning of a new era in Johannesburg because really how can we let this beautiful, famous and rich city to deteriorate in front of our eyes.
@@preciousisiguzo2052 First off I'm an African American who is currently residing in Rwanda. I have visited Johannesburg and was treated like family by the people. While I was in SA and told folks I was living in Rwanda most knew only about the troubles of 30 years ago. There is NOTHING in my post which was comparing simply sharing information. I want Black People to prosper wherever they may be. Rwanda is beautiful, Johannesburg is beautiful no need to compare I appreciate and applaud our people when we come together to make our world better. PEACE!
This is a great initiative and should become a regular occurrence as we the people are responsible for the litter. I hope every city emulate this initiative.
Hillbrow has much more than 3500 residents, and most of the people assisting were from outside a suggestion to get more people from the area so they can see the benifits of keeping the area clean. Well done to the organizers for this brilliant idea
If Pickitup were able to collect waste in a timely manner, it would greatly contribute to clearing the rubbish from our streets. Currently, there are issues with garbage being left piled up for weeks without being collected in the inner city. Well done to everyone involved in this initiative
We can already see the results of the new Government of National Unity, Interest Rates not going up for the firts time in 18 years. I lived in Hillbrow 42 years ago when it was the most cosmopolitan area in the whole country, the place never slept, 24/7 activity, I remember St Lorenzo, Boobs, Fontana Chickens, Bimbo's and hundreds more. For me, a farm boy it was a crazy place but I loved every minute of it. Only difference was that there was no crime, it was safe, clean, vibrant, alive and chock a block full of people. I remember the count down to 12 for new year, everybody chucked their old maching machines, stoves, fridges, beds off the balconies just for the counsil to hav eto clean it up straight after. Yes the counsil worked at night too, I remember the cleaners would work all night getting JHB ready for the next morning, and the parking attendants happily towing vechiles away from no parking zones to have traffic flow freely the next morning. I lived in many cities over the world an dback then SA cities was by far better than the ones I visted abroad. And no other City had traffic like JHB, it was overwhealming.
@@VIEWMARY001of course what is being said is true. I am 68, grew up in Soweto, visited Hillvrow, very clean, vibrant, cosmopolitan and very clean. I remember Fontana chickens amongst others what is he lying about?
Don't lies. Give credit to the right people Jozi my Jozi not GNU. This project of cleaning joburg started before the elections. It's got nothing to do with with the GNU
Big up to all of you who took their time to clean up Jozi. Me and my family moved to Cape Town from Jozi, one thing I'm sure I will regret for as long as I live. I love Jozi with all my heart. I was just saddened by our politicians who were messing it up and it's good to see people rise to take it back. "JOZI MY JOZI"
We used to do clean our schools at the end of each term. We also went around our schools neighbourhoods with Zibi the mascot. None of us got hurt or had any issues with it. Dont know why it was stopped because it surely instilled a sense of pride in our neighborhoods. Our town also used to win the cleanest town category in those days...
Under apartheid government littering could get you locked up, let alone urinating in the street. Today these 2 things are normal culture. We need to relook at this freedom thing.
Good point, we can educate learners to take care of the environment, but who is going to educate the illegal immigrants that are harboured by middle class employers and households addicted to paying slave wages to make themselves comfortable. The bulk of the littering in Hillbrow is done by people who come from countries where their governments don't prioritise salubrious climate and infrastructure that promotes salubrity in their city. If you were to go to Lagos or Abuja, you would understand what I am talking about!
@@mbhekitembe2179 You are spot on! There are employers contributing. I had an experience with two people throwing a beer bottle to pieces in the street. I asked them why not just throw the intact bottle on the pavement and the answer was: 'We must give the municipality some extra work to clean up'! My understanding of this behaviour was that workers may run out of work. What a senseless way of thinking.
After many years of having lost hope for the future of SA, I am once again proud of our country. Thank you so much to everyone involved in this fantastic effort. ❤❤❤
Wow, what a great initiative. Those people living in the Hillbrow area must start keeping their environment clean. They can't expect others to clean up after them. I am just saying..
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" cleanliness mirrors the Soul... It looks beautiful Thank you to the "willing hands" doing so with an awesome attitude. ❤🎉
12:35 Loved the analogy and her message! A mother does not breastfeed her baby for only a day. The clean up campaigns need to become a regular feature across our country. We must send a message of hope for our people, a message that can start to bring about the change we so desperately need.
Great video and great event. It's a beautiful thing to see people coming together to clean up the city. Jozi is such a beautiful place, and one day I look forward to being part of the community. I believe when you take pride in your community only great things begins to happen. Much love and Ubuntu to my SA brothers and sisters.
