Fantastic work wish all smart repairers was like you I bought a relatively new bmw 8 months back and when I got home I spotted a very poor smart repair on rear passenger door phoned up booked it into a trusted body shop to sort out then sent the invoice to dealership which they paid for it mines a mineral grey bmw and door had ripples in the paint All sorted now thank god great content keep up the good work 🙏
But now the bumper is a slightly more darker shade then the wing(s) Yes I appreciate there will always be a slight colour difference between painted plastic bumpers & wing/ quarter panel but it's actually more noticeable after the smart repair, possibly because of a tint in the clear coat maybe? So what would be the best method to overcome this?? Finish itself looks good 👍.
You done an amazing job. Reflex silver is notoriously hard to match up. We needed a door touching up/painting and they persuaded us to have the whole side done as they informed us it wouldn’t match. Awesome job.
Just had a smart repair on my beloved S3 and blown away by the standard and colour match of the repair.Really pleasant experience and highly recommend if you don’t want a franchise bodge job Cheers lee
When painting over a sensor it would normally be okay, but if you apply filler to a panel that has a ADAS sensor beneath that’s when a problem occurs. Sometimes body shops and repair specialists do not realise this until it’s time to run a calibration and the sensor is restricted.
Hey man nice work You said for drop coating you turn the pressure all the way up ? I’ve always reduced the pressure and distance for drop coating, does it not go on too dry with higher pressure? Keep up the good videos 👍
Thanks bro, so I paint/base up at around 2.0bar when I say I turn up the pressure for a drop coat it’s usually to around 2.2 bar. I’ve never tried a drop coat by lowering the pressure tbh. This method is with water based base coat and I have never had a problem with a job being too dry. This was the way I was taught throughout my apprenticeship and later shown by paint manufacturer reps.
That’s interesting to know I’ll have to give it a try, I’ve never done smart repairs I’m new to your channel, I’m a body shop painter only and use water base bc, I was told to lower pressure and pull the gun further away, it’s mad how there’s different techniques to get the same results, I’ve just caught up on a few of your last posts, all good work mate 👍
@@gavinjones8093 No you were correct you turn the pressure down for drop coating. Smart repair technicians think there gods gift to the world and think they know everything.
Shame you don't cover bristol area Scott. I have a mk6 gti which has the front number resprayed by a previous owner which has some paint runs under the lip under the light which you can't see, but I know it's there. The paint on the bumper is flat in areas too you can see it more in low light conditions almost like it has no little clear coat on. Be interested to know what something like this would cost to repair.. As a full bumper respray woud be around 600 pounds 😩
How long does a blow in smart repair last? I ask this because I am in Spain and here smart paint repairers don't exist. I took my car to a traditional paint shop and asked them about doing a blow in smart repair since the bumper only had damage on one side and the bodyshop told me that smart repairs don't last, they said with time you will be able to see where the paint has been blown in. So they insist on painting the entire bumper but on the other hand it only costs around 120€ for a professional bumper spray job and that is with them dismantling the bumper!
Does a good job on his repairs but quoted me £400-500 just for respray on a door when i can buy a brand new door for £500. Think pricing needs to be rethought to bring in more customers personally.
Top job. I’m surprised no one has manufactured a sticky ring for the outer ring of parking sensors for using whilst priming. We had to get all the side painted on a Reflex Silver VW for a scratch on one door. Is speed blender a thinner?
What kind of pressure you use for that repair on the base and clear ? Also you know any top body shops that paint a bumper in Birmingham as it’s a new car and need a perfect repair ?
Ben, just a bit of friendly advice... be careful selecting SMART repairers that you have not checked out prior. For Example this guys in the comments. Very quick to write negative comments but I’ve watch only one of his video and stopped a nasty run in his paint work. Some of there people have a lot of front.. We are back to work Tuesday 4th so give us a call if you like 👍🏽
If you are to use Infrared heat lamps for drying the clear coat I always advised to use Infrared heat lamps through all processes such as priming/filling. This will help eliminate the chances of sinkage with the repair.

That came out WAY better than any parking lot repair I thought ever could ..
Great job. 🍺
