Love the videos! I agree with the Bond vibe. You should start posting the “Forrest POTA Apparel” links in the description.
😂😂 I’ll see if I can get a 007 booth at Hamvention
He does look like Bond!!!! The thumbnail was brilliant! The pose, the coloration, the typography [font selection] great job!!!!
Holy Cat !! At first I thought the video thumbnail with you in a black turtle neck with the radio in hand was a 007 promotional video 😂 ONX maps rock , been using them for years
Haha glad the thumbnail did its job! I’ll have to film some California action here in a few weeks!
I'm such a wimp. I hate Minnesota winters. All my activating is in the comfort of my vehicle. Makes me even colder just watching from my space heater in the shack. You are truly dedicated POTA buddy. Another great video. Thanks for sharing it. Mike, N0ANE
“Father, husband, dedicated POTA buddy.” - my obituary from freezing to death.
Haha thanks Mike! We sure are racking up the FB QSOs as of late. 73 :)
@@Utahforrest Always drop what I'm doing when I see you on the hamclock spots. Thanks for all of the fun, Forrest.
Oh my goodness Forrest, put a beanie on!!!! Rad gloves, another rad activation! I'm about this close to getting on the air with CW, thank you for inspiring so many hams to buckle down on their cw!!
@@thequarantinecatholic get on the air before you feel ready. You’ll thank me later.
I have probably 14,000+ total CW QSOs and I hunted Jim, WB0RLJ tonight and sent him KI7QCR. Fun fact, that’s not my callsign. 😂
An “I don’t care attitude” will take you crazy far in this hobby! Looking forward to our first qso 73 !!!
Forest is right! If you wait to get on the air until you’re ready, you’ll never get on the air. The majority of CW ops are patient and will work with you. Word of advice……don’t answer a CW op at 5wpm if he/she is calling “CQ” at 25+ wpm. Pick someone slower, you’ll get a better reception most times.
You are my hero. I am a big wimp when it comes to cold!!!😂 Thanks for taking us along!
Haha I wish I could say I was tough but those wool gloves did their job! I normally can’t stand the cold especially trying to send Morse code!
Good morning Forrest. Another great activation and video in the bag! I enjoyed watching, as usual. Appreciate all do…. 73 OM
Thank you!
Hi! Forrest, It's a great POTA QRP field operation on the freezing high ground. You got good RST even such a compact potable antenna. I can say you're wild HAM radio but I'm armchair HAM radio Hi Hi de hl1sb
@@hl1sb_Philip-Yu haha! I’m doing a lot more armchair ham radio these days! :) as long as you have a bug you’re ok. 👌🏻 😂
You're living right, bro. Man, that's how you do lunch!
I saw the Ram Cummins covered in snow and got jealous
@Utahforrest my hats off to you for activating in it! Man, I'm a wuss about cold. Also, watching your videos inspires me. I gotta get the kh1 out for some action (when it warms up) :) 73 es cul
@@K4FR_Radio Dude I'm trying to figure out if I have a single other POTA activation entirely on the whip. Sometimes I sneak out the KH1 when I need 1 or 2 more QSOs but when I activate with my KH1 I typically deploy an EFHW or bigger vertical. I mostly love the KH1 for hunting while pedestrian mobile :)
We need to get you one of those small backpackers chairs. That would be great for you to sit on instead of kneeling in that wet snow.
Enjoyed the activation!
Sorry for the bad signal report. Could almost not make you out. Conditions were really bad this morning. I had to work a couple hours just to get an activation in today. I have given you a much better report on the kh1 in the past. So not your fault. Just conditions today.
Dude! I’ll take it. I need every last QSO I could get today to wrap up in the allotted times so it was welcome. :)
I more so joke because I am such a KH1 advocate I want all potential buyers to think it’s endless 599 on the whip 😂
Nice Thumbnail.. very 007
These comments keep me going
Damn it, I missed you today!!
I’ll get ya next time my friend!!

@@Zapruderfilm1963 did you catch when I told you you were QSO #1,000 into US-3094!?!?!? Thanks for the kilo two days ago :)
Tnx fer the great video. Quick Question: I noticed you are using the factory soft case for the KH1. Have you tried the Pelican M40 (modified)? Any thoughts on the factory soft case versus the Pelican? Tnx agn es 72
Yes, I have the pelican moded case it's excellent. I actually haul that case in my son's stroller when I take him to the park and it's actually got me out of some situations when rain started to pour. The soft padded case is my go-case that actually hangs on the back seat head-rest bar in my truck haha. So my KH1 is always in my truck with me wherever I go. I use both cases!
73
@@Utahforrest Thanks Forrest. I have both case as well and the more I use the soft case the more I like it (depending on conditions of course). Keep up the great work. 73
I love accurate signal reports. Not many give them anymore. Maybe the old school SOTA guys
@@JayN4GO I’m horrible at it. As a new cw op I am constantly in the field with rigs that don’t have S meters. So signal reports are subjective based on how you sound to me, not based on s meter reading.
So even when I do use a rig with an S meter I still share just what I hear. I’ve had piercing loud signals come to me over my FTDX10 that don’t move the S meter. But I can’t say 519 if I had to turn my volume down!
I genuinely try to share the signal based on how I hear it. (Which may not be true). But it does fascinate me how RST is used in DXing and contests.
I did get an email from a ham that I gave 119 and he said 119 should never be sent as RST and shared like 6 paragraphs why. Haven’t done it since that day.
@ hmm I’d like to hear why. lol man these yaesus have stiff needles. Almost useless unless you can run amp2 on all the time. Rst is what you hear so that’s good. Yeah the formality of 5nn in contest is just for speed. Imagine a true rst contest. Haha
Great activation Forrest. Your CW skills are remarkable! Congrats. What is the black round item that is at the bottom right on the KH1? 73 de KN8N
@@larryboekeloo5514 Thank you! That’s a little speaker off of Amazon that plugs directly into the KH1 for portable use!
Next up: SOTA 👊🏼
Me and you.

@@Utahforrest I AM IN!
I've had terrible luck with my KH-1 key freezing up/sticking shut in the cold. I assumed it was due to the 3d printed plastic constricting in the cold around the posts. Have you experienced this?
@@MoseUA-cam not yet! But I will find out soon. I haven’t been in weather “that” cold yet…
@@Utahforrest i had same problem yesterday on oe/st-391 cold and heavy wind.
paddle went in permanent sending dits
with warm breath to paddle i could do 6 qso with qlf /qsd
elecraft Paddle is unusable in cold winter

@@oe6kygwow interesting. I’ll admit I haven’t done a ton of testing. Have you tried other KH1 paddles? I wonder if KM4CFT would solve this.
I have to imagine contact spacing impacts this as well.
@@Utahforrest i have the Tinypaddle from N6ara as Backup works ok but stands to far from kh1 away
What speaker did u have plugged into the earphones jack?
@@pakeck1 this guy: a.co/d/0uMNjfN
Ive tested 3 different versions that one is the best that Ive used. External speakers are generally touchy with the KH1 so you’ll have to play with volume levels
Forrest , thank you and
Great video
What park is US-119? CW POTA is so awesome. 73
@@Paul_KE9BHN You’ve been killing it with the activations! Catch you on the air very soon
