Here are some tips I found: Holding Ctrl while clicking parts will group them together so you can drag them together. Also holding Shift and then clicking and holding will let you select everything your mouse mouses over. Also if your mass is red it doesn't necessarily mean your ship is too heavy. It just means it is now heavier than it previously was before editing.
Also just something to point out. If you do "Flight Check" and it tells you that some pieces are not connected, there is an easy way to find the "problem children". For PC users double click on a piece. This will highlight everything that is connected or interconnected with that piece and drag it to the left or right. Now you will absolutely be able to see what your problem pieces are because they get left behind when you drag the ship in a particular direction.
I love it when he does these short form guides! Jokes aside tho, I would seriously just enjoy watching someone build ships just for the sake of it. Love the shipbuilding in the game!

There is actually a class above C called M class but that is inaccessible without mods though it is in the game. The M class parts mostly work are usually used on bigger NPC ships, they have their own stats, price and everything so Bethesda may be planning something with them in the future.
One note: the red pips in the power section aren't showing slots that your reactor can't fill, that's just the comparison to your ship's current build. For example, you only have 8 power in weapon 1 at that point with the atlatl missiles, but there are four red pips, that's because before you started changing parts your original ship had 12 power in the weapon 1 slot. The game is just showing you "This is how much less power this part has available than your current build."
Thankyou man, this was extremely helpful I learned a lot. I like how they took a chance and made ship building more free with more designs. Yes it’s hard to learn how to build, but it’s worth it once you understand it.
For a "quick" video that went from me not wanting to play to spending time in that builder changing the base ship as I'm still doing side missions for the vanguard ahah. Thanks for this!!
What a great vid. I had just jumped in and made a few ships, and learned much of this by trial and error (which sometimes sucked!). But didn't know stuff like the keystrokes of r/g and crtl/g. Much appreciated!
There is a big diffrence between Beam (continous) and Pulse/Missle weapons: the later ones can fire multiple times and then go into reload, the beam type need reload after every shot. So if you use 1 beam and 2 pulse type weapons you get more out of your reactor power, specially important if you have less than 24 reactor. Bigger reactor might be usefull to have 2 beam and 1 pulsing weapon. But bigger reactor is also a lot heavier.

Two other tips/glitches in shipbuilding that may be useful: 1. If an item is able to be flipped, then you can put it on any attachable point even if it's red. All you have to do is grab whatever item it is, attach it to said point, then flip it a few times and hit esc. This is great for hiding items in other items in order to have a more sleek looking ship. 2. I haven't done this myself, but I've seen videos of people doing this. Supposedly you can get items even if you don't have the perk for them (they still have to match your reactor class though.) For example, say a cargo piece requires ship design rank 2 and you don't have that. If you talk to the ship engineer and immediately go into ship building and quickly add a lower level cargo item, then it should sort of glitch out. You can then use W and S to scroll through the other cargo items to find the rank 2 item and should be able to use it when placed. Hopefully this helps some of you other there that are struggling with the kinda wonky shipbuilding.
Just found your channel. I haven't bought Starfield yet, but when I do, I do plan to get very detailed with building ships. I found this video very helpful! Thank you, sir!
What i like to do when designing a ship is put every structural piece available off to one side in their manufacturer groups. It really helps visualize how things are going to fit together, basically it looks like a model kit set laid out on a table. Keep in mind not all parts are available immediately, some wont show up till you're higher level. Not just the better versions, but some entire designs. So visit shipyards regularly. Also dont worry about mobility. Even with 100 mobility and the maneuverability perks you're still not going to be nimbly dodging enemy fire. so go chonky.
Thank you SO much for this guide! It has really helped me with things that I was struggling with. For example, I couldn't for the life of me find out how to move things up or down, and I think the F key is close to the only one I hadn't tried. lol But there's still one thing I don't quite get. You mention using the C key in order to flip things to face different directions. I have tried to do this so many times, I've lost count, and I've had to give up every time. I've spent at least ten hours trying to get this to work, but I just can't do it. Maybe I've just been unlucky and tried to do it with modules that you can't flip? Maybe that's all it is. I had no idea that you get more options in a ship builder that you set up yourself at your outpost than you do everywhere else. I'll try and add a ship builder to my outpost. That's a great tip! :)
A must have imo is a railgun. Whereas the longer it is (snapping consecutive pieces in line) the more powerful it is but slower fire rate or charge up is and heavier for some give and take Side note: I’ve got around 24hrs in this game, and it’s taken most of that 24 hrs but this game is really starting to get its hooks into me. So strange for me. Usually BGS games are an instant rabbit hole for me. This one took a little bit. Great vid bud. Beautiful boat too

FYI crew needs both crew capacity and crew stations. Your crew will be the lower of the 2. So if you had 8 crew stations but 2 crew capacity. You’ll only be able to get 2 crew. The hardest to up is capacity. So if you want 8 crew members (max you can get with skills) you will need the following 4 x engines (0.25 x 4 = 1 max crew) 1 x reactor (2 or 3 max crew) 1 x shield (0.5) 7 x weapons (0.5 x 7 = 3.5) For weapons to get the energy mix out I used 4 dragon pulse turrets and 3 missile launchers.
Thanks so much for the overview! I feel like the game just completely leaves you in the dark with how to build. One thing that drives me nuts is the habs - while toggling hab variations, it doesn't tell you specifically what it includes and there's no way to see the interior until you make all the changes, have to exit the builder, board your ship, and look around. This is a very tedious process that I wish they allowed you to preview.

I managed to mod the heck out of the Kepler R ship to make it legendary (nearly 10k cargo capacity), all workbenches, weapons max'd out (both 3k range, one is auto turret - I like to aim the other) and nearly max'd missiles, 1.8k shields, largest He3 tanks. The ship is a beast, nothing can touch it.

What would the recommendation be to get the best parts from each vendor? Make the ship first and then upgrade? Or once you've visited them, are they available at your outpost?
The planes! Oh my god! Last night I was tryna build and it was doing my head in that they wouldn't connect for being "too low" or "too high". Oh I'm jumping right back in knowing this.
In the Starfield event at the Microsoft showcase, It showed all the pieces separate at once. I can't find out how to do this. Do you know, Cohh? (or chat)
My one issue I have had when making ships is.. the ladders... the ladders will NEVER cooperate with me. At all. They always want to be at dumbest locations, Cohh do you have any tips on how you got your ladders to where you wanted them in the ship or have you just been extremely lucky when making this beautiful ship as the one in the video?
Something I’ve noticed is that ladders like to stack. If you have three habs stacked on top of each other, it’s common for the ladders to be connected straight through the middle. Careful building allows for *some* control
just one little thing, u can put stuff in the ship from outside of it....just go into main manu hall (idk how to call it), ship menu, inventory and then u can select your inventory (like as same as always, not the best menu ever made..)and put everithing into the ship; u dont rly need to go inside the ship all the time but u need to be close of it, like 300 mt around it or somthing like that.
@@BlapwardKrunkleno. He meant you can put stuff from your inventory into the ship’s cargo hold through the pause menu from outside the ship, as long as you are within 300 meters from your ship. For those that got the Dream House it means from your door steps you can access your ship’s cargo hold
Cat be like, "who is he talking to?" Now seriously, very helpful. Some things I had already figured out just by fumbling, but some were great useful "aha"s for me.
If I got the idea right from reading about the game, The A, B, C classes of modules were supposed to be "balanced" around class-types, idea of A being things like fast brawlers or small long-jump explorers/cargo smuggling, and C being heavy class, like battleships or freighters, with B being ... "balanced" in the middle kind of thing, and with the modules stats trying to "force" you into staying within that class by not really allowing you to "have the best stats in every category". Whether the game succeeded in doing so I'm not actually sure.
Quick question. So to get the modules needed that are not available at your outpost landing pad , for instance the cockpit that is only available at certain location. Do you have to use an available cockpit from your outpost landing pad inventory then fly to the location to install the preferred cockpit as in your example?
Dude, I love the shipbuilding system but I am SO bad at designing a cool ship. It hurts. But so many people have built so many amazing ships that I am determined to learn it.
An exploit to buy locked ship parts on PC: if you want something that is locked, click on the item above it in the buy menu but make sure that the item is "red", as in it is intersecting the rest of your ship and you can't place it. It'll be stuck to your cursor, then hit "S" to change the item you're placing to a locked one and place it.

Your crew will be the lower of the 2. So if you had 8 crew stations but 2 crew capacity. You’ll only be able to get 2 crew. The hardest to up is capacity. So if you want 8 crew members (max you can get with skills) you will need the following
4 x engines (0.25 x 4 = 1 max crew)
1 x reactor (2 or 3 max crew)

The planes!
I wish they could let you customize the inside like with base building. I’ve honestly given up and just made my ship all 1 floor
Something I’ve noticed is that ladders like to stack. If you have three habs stacked on top of each other, it’s common for the ladders to be connected straight through the middle. Careful building allows for *some* control
Try using companion ways to get ladders in, you really have to play with it.
You da man! Thank you for the great info. 👍
Thanks for sharing sir, a great instruction video. 🇧🇻☕
just one little thing, u can put stuff in the ship from outside of it....just go into main manu hall (idk how to call it), ship menu, inventory and then u can select your inventory (like as same as always, not the best menu ever made..)and put everithing into the ship; u dont rly need to go inside the ship all the time but u need to be close of it, like 300 mt around it or somthing like that.
Wait…putting stuff in the inventory of the ship like chairs and stuff will actually furnish the ship?
@@BlapwardKrunkleno. He meant you can put stuff from your inventory into the ship’s cargo hold through the pause menu from outside the ship, as long as you are within 300 meters from your ship.
For those that got the Dream House it means from your door steps you can access your ship’s cargo hold
Great video!
Cohh this was a Great video... helped a lot... thank you very much and continue the great work 😁👍
You can flip some parts around so you can actually make your dock entrance on the bottom of your ship if you want to build higher.
Sadly you cant rotate the objects left and right... idk why they didnt thought of that
always enjoy a good top docker
Cat be like, "who is he talking to?"
Now seriously, very helpful. Some things I had already figured out just by fumbling, but some were great useful "aha"s for me.
Excellent video🤝
Plus thank you a lot, I think your guide will be most useful!
Thanks Cohh!
As always amazing.
Good upload 👍
My man! lol. You're awesome Cohh!
Could you please create a guide on how to build your amazing looking ship?!
Does he have a link for it?
Quick question. So to get the modules needed that are not available at your outpost landing pad , for instance the cockpit that is only available at certain location. Do you have to use an available cockpit from your outpost landing pad inventory then fly to the location to install the preferred cockpit as in your example?
Dude, I love the shipbuilding system but I am SO bad at designing a cool ship. It hurts. But so many people have built so many amazing ships that I am determined to learn it.
Helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this
thats a really cool ship cohh, im stealing the desing
An exploit to buy locked ship parts on PC: if you want something that is locked, click on the item above it in the buy menu but make sure that the item is "red", as in it is intersecting the rest of your ship and you can't place it. It'll be stuck to your cursor, then hit "S" to change the item you're placing to a locked one and place it.
