  • Burnham and Tilly face a big, prime directive-sized problem when they encounter a pre-warp society. Here's my review for Star Trek Discovery's fifth season, sixth episode, "Whistlespeak".

Discovery is the epitome of a Participation Trophy.

Sorry, but the Prime Directive never made sense in the past and I always had a problem with episodes dealing with it. And Discovery's use of it is not much worse or better than any other use in the past.

I’m so behind on Discovery, I’ve only just watched this episode.
I’m not hating this season but maybe the fact that I’m also in no rush to get to each episode says something.

I mean, you do have a good excuse with Doctor Who back on screens. I know which show I'd rather be making videos for...

I remember when Star Trek was a thought provoking show with characters that strived to be decent human or alien beings that explored not only strange new worlds but scenarios that were instructive to what we are presently facing. Now it’s all identity politics, action sequences, and flimsy storylines. Culture really is reflected in our media.

Don't forget the part where apparently to graduate Star Fleet academy all you had to get was a Participation trophy.... apparently.

Was surprised that they were just rubber forehead humans, and not something more alien, like bird or whatever animals that whistle.
So, the planet was habitable, but became a dust bowl, and the Denobulians tried to help with rain towers? Rain towers that need constant maintenance? Good plan, guys.
Loved that they worked so hard to get into tower 5 (the last tower), but the clue was in Tower 3. A very Mario moment for the team.
So, they no one used a neural pattern on a hologram to make it almost lifelike? Seems like the first thing someone would do after losing a loved one. And no one's done this in the thousand years holograms have been around? In any of the civilizations known to use holograms? Also, putting a human neural pattern into a computer gave us the M-5 disaster, and Data was having serious issues with a human mind inside of him, so giving how humanity reacts to things that cause problems (like augmentation), shouldn't this be illegal?
And how did they get woman who died almost a millennia ago's neural pattern? (did they forget she died ever before Discovery left the past? I think they forgot how long she's been dead)

Ypu put more effort into those questions than the Discovery writers put into this episode's script.

There's "suspending disbelief"...and then there's pretending Tilly is running a marathon suspending disbelief. I mean come on people. There's no such thing as a morbidly obese marathon runner, not even in the future. Rule #1: never insult your audience's intelligence.

This show has always sucked......doing a review of one episode is like being the weatherman in an area that only has one season and the weather is always the exact same and the most excitement is a 2 degree change from tshirt weather to long sleeve shirt. episode 1 michael saves the universe but someone else got the credit in past, far better iterations of trek. episode 2 michael save the universe with help from her incompetent (unless female or gay) coworkers and some man got credit historically in a far better iteration of trek....episode 3.................ad infinitum.

Given that Discovery is "Frak'n WOKE to Extreme" and despite all that, this is by far my favorite Trek Series. With all that said, Discovery S5E6: Whistlespeak was just LAME..... also will someone please give Tilly a red shirt and be done with this Star Trek character....... Thanks for the review - its appreciated.....
