I do have to say you did make some good points about the coaches, i always thought their props were similar to Annie and Clarabel but I see I was mistaken.

The gearing issue is due to the large wheel on this model, it’s probably hard to gear it properly with the size constraints. Also there’s a good chance the large wheel also prevents a standard flywheel from working properly. That’s why nobody else has attempted to make a big wheel if I had to guess. It’s honestly cool to have bc it’s the only one like it. But I do think they should be upfront about its running deficiencies as it’s not up to par with the rest in the lineup. If that’s the first Bachman train someone buys, they probably won’t buy another so it’s kinda dumb for Bachman to not state it’s clear issues. I know I would have bought this but now I doubt I will unless I find a great deal. Especially with the coaches being lazily done, thanks for the detailed and honest review.
There has to be some level of complex gearing in there considering the other driven axel. I think Bachmann could've gotten away with not even driving that big wheel if they made all the other wheels driven instead.
Besides the notoriously terrible Bachmann Thomas motors in HO scale, her mechanism is the same as the other scales but a quality mechanism gets more important the smaller you go. With G scale you'd need a boulder to get an engine to cut out, with N scale that's a spec of dust. Sad to see Bachmann didn't take the scale into consideration at all. Thanks for watching!
I was really hopping to get emily so i can start my n scale collection. But after seeing how she runs. Not really sure. Ill probably still get her cus im a huge emily fan. But idk of itll be worth it.
Honestly, she's probably about as good as any of Bachmann's HO Thomas models, so if you're okay with that level of quality, go ahead and get her. The disappointing thing is that she's so weak in comparison to all the existing N scale Thomas stuff, which so far had been miles above any Thomas stuff in HO. Thanks for watching!
I was definitely surprised to hear what you had to say in this review. I thought for sure the bad review was gonna come from the face at first. Me personally, I think they missed the mark on Emily's face, at least compared to the rest of the range so far. She definitely has the least accurate face. That definitely does suck about the mechanism though, and especially Emily's coaches! Do you know if the HO/Large Scale ones are the same way or are they original molds? I would figure Bachmann haven't done this for the first time with the n scale ones, but considering I had no idea until this video, who knows.
Honestly I've never paid enough attention to Emily to notice what her face looks like 😂 The pupils are a little huge lol The other scales of Emily's coaches appear to be exactly the same as these ones, unfortunately. It's not terrible by Bachmann HO standards but it is terrible by Bachmann N scale standards, so do with that info what you will. Personally I'd rather have a Toby and Henrietta but Emily just came out so I wanted to review it lol
Hi Dan. I'm not a fan of the Thomas & Friends range of models because it's just not my thing. My interest was peaked when I recognised Emily as being a Stirling and hoped I might be able to remove her face and find a smokebox door. However, the moulding is poor, the paintwork is poor, etc. N scale models often do come with cab details. All these negative points are, I believe, because the Thomas & Friends models are aimed at a much younger collector, albeit that adult modellers are collectors, too. I don't have any experience of these models other than this review, but I suspect the range is just slightly above toy status. I'm from the UK and here Bachmann's N gauge range is called Graham Farish (a British company bought by Bachmann). The Graham Farish models put the Bachmann N scale range to shame; they are of good quality and are reliable, too. I see you are familiar with Kato as well as Tomix. You can't get better quality models than Kato - they are phenomenal! I don't know how popular DCC models are in the US and you didn't mention whether Emily (or others in the range) are DCC-ready. Happy modelling.
Thanks for your comment! I'm familiar with Graham Farish and other "real" N scale models. What you're saying is completely true, and it's something I'll be making a video about in the future. These models are toy-grade, which doesn't make sense when you consider how this is a dead franchise and most of the fans are teens or adults at this point. By the way, if this is the only Thomas range item you've seen, I do want to recommend the rest of the N scale range (NOT HO). None of them are DCC ready, but they are far and away the best running N scale models out there, or at least from outside Japan. I'm dead serious. Check out Sam's Trains' N scale Thomas review, it'll shock you how well it runs. Emily is so far the only real disappointment. Again, thanks for watching!
That's kind of strange that your Emily doesn't run very well. Mine's one of the top 3 performers out of the 6 engines in the range, alongside Thomas and Toby. She also has pretty decent slow speed control.
TBH I'm still tempted to buy the coaches just because I am *starved* for decent 1800s coaches and 6-wheel clerestories are specifically the thing I want XD It's a shame about the finish and the laziness though :(
Yeah I noticed that while looking at pictures for this review. They really cheaped out by making one coach body and using it for everything for 20+ years.
Even if mine is defective, having only 4 pickups and no flywheel is unacceptable here. Even if mine never cut out once, that wouldn't change my thoughts on it. Good luck getting her across wider points with that tiny pickup area - something that should never be a problem for an engine of her size. Wish I had thought to show that in the video. Thanks for watching!
Great channel and video man, honesty the N-Scale Gordon I just got in the mail is a massive ripoff for me at least. I feel spoiled because I’ve mostly played with Kato and Tomix engines and the motors are usually pretty reliable but my Gordon has almost no power to pull a decent sized train. He has no tender pickups and for an express engine his top speed is pretty pathetic and I’m honestly pretty disappointed with him. Bachmann’s N scale Thomas range has great detail and build quality but somehow the functionality feels worse than the HO counterparts. I don’t know if I’m nitpicking too much but still cool video! Def won’t be picking up Emily now lmao
Sorry to hear that Bachmann Gordon didn't work out for you. Japanese models are pretty much the gold standard when it comes to N scale so I'm disappointed the Tomix range hasn't continued. Thanks for mentioning Gordon being underpowered, I'll be sure to test it when I get mine! Thanks for watching!
I'm honestly surprised you didn't touch on the poorly applied gold on Emily's chimney cap and cab windows. It was the FIRST thing my eyes went to. It's HIDEOUSLY sloppy.
@ I’m getting both just because. Currently only have Thomas Percy and James but will get Toby Gordon and Emily soon. Diesel and Paxton come out next year!
Honestly I think having one of the pilot truck axles be a driving axle is also a dumb idea, like at that point just make the whole pilot driven or if you really need an extra driving axle cause of the lack of power from two giant wheels you could have done the axle *behind* the drivers. And honestly if Bachmann makes all of their new tender engines have pickups in the tender there should be no reason why they don’t for the Thomas range. Those engines are way too small for that to not be a thing and honestly it’s not like we’re going to be taking off the tenders for anything
Bachmann appears to think that kids don't deserve basic features like tender pickups. And if you watch other reviews, none of them complain about it, despite the fact that they're being ripped off. So maybe Bachmann is right.
Hold up Toby was a good one too ! Put him in there with Percy and Thomas for the greats James was lacking any tender pickups and front headlamp … Gordon was lacking his headlamps and tender pickups too And Emily is missing a fly wheel , tender pickups & headlamp
@DansTrainRoom I'd love to see you take a look at some dapol locos, I think the terriers are OK, and so are the panniers, the tender locos would be most interesting though
I am hoping for a Mavis … she could re use the Toby chassis ! Her and a black james re colour from the adventure begins in N scale … They would be nice for the 80th !
@DansTrainRoom yes..but tbh. I wanna see how gordon looks with the tomix coaches. It would be cool..I've already heard great things about the model, and that as predicted....very fast
Fair critisms on coaches and im not tge best with mechanisms so i cant say there but the tender draw bar might be like it to prevent wires hanging too lo and geting snagged on points (have that issue with a hornby mallared in 00) the small hole i thonk you were jokeing (im autistic i struggle with sarcasm) but it would be hard to get a small hole there on n guage 00 yes should be but not n guage Overall good video and im subing keep up the good work!
Two of my other N scale locos have exposed wires connecting to the tender and I haven't had any problems with them. Bachmann knows how to make better models, they just cheaped out here.
Unfortunately if I don't swear, UA-cam will mark the video as "for kids," and its visibility will be severely limited. So in a way it is necessary. Thanks for watching!

Definitely as soon as I have the money!
I'm the 1000th sub🎉
From one small content creator to another. Keep up the good work🎉🥳🎉😄
Thank you so much! 🥳🥳🥳
1:19 hey, im one of the 1.9% subscribed.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
@@DansTrainRoom no problem!
also, is that percy the next for a review?...
Well strictly speaking, the next model Tomix released was Henry 😉
@@DansTrainRoom oh yeah. i forgot about that
@@LunoTheCheekyBlue1you forgot old square wheels
That’s … disgraceful !!!
but ehh don’t fully blame ya … he was discontinued … years on end ago
TBH I'm still tempted to buy the coaches just because I am *starved* for decent 1800s coaches and 6-wheel clerestories are specifically the thing I want XD It's a shame about the finish and the laziness though :(
They are decent coaches all things considered, just not accurate to Emily's coaches. I'd love to see someone design new bodies for 3D printing.
maybe a talk with the 2FS kit and scratchbuilders could get something going for you
Emily's coaches have always been reskins of Annie and Clarabelle in any of the bachmann model sizes sadly
Yeah I noticed that while looking at pictures for this review. They really cheaped out by making one coach body and using it for everything for 20+ years.
@ I’m honestly just glad we get what we do at this point sadly, I like how they look honestly
They look alright but there's no reason for them to cost more than Annie and Clarabel since they're just reskins.
it's either a defected model or bachmann didn't do any quality control or testing to make sure it was good.
Already in the 1.9% 😎😎😎
Part of me also wants to see her at full speed
Thank you sir 😎😎😎
Yeah I didn't notice it at the time but it is pretty sloppy.
Thanks for watching!
Well you’re honest so I give you props. Starting to reconsider…
Thank you! I'm reconsidering my decision to get Emily instead of Gordon lol
@ I’m getting both just because. Currently only have Thomas Percy and James but will get Toby Gordon and Emily soon. Diesel and Paxton come out next year!
Hoping I can get them all reviewed and be caught up by the time Diesel comes out!
@ here’s hoping for ya. I’ll be sure to shout out to you when I post my Gordon review. That won’t be until Christmas.
Thanks, I appreciate it!
It sure is nice being a part of the 1.9%.
Welcome to the top, friend.
There's really no excuse to not have tender pickups. If these are supposed to be for kids, that just increases the need for features like that.
For a second I thought you were small Thomas world because of the thumbnail 😆
Bachmann Thomas and Percy were so good I thought this was going to be a great range, then James with no tender pickups, no tender pickups on anyone...
Bachmann appears to think that kids don't deserve basic features like tender pickups. And if you watch other reviews, none of them complain about it, despite the fact that they're being ripped off. So maybe Bachmann is right.
Hold up
Toby was a good one too ! Put him in there with Percy and Thomas for the greats
James was lacking any tender pickups and front headlamp …
Gordon was lacking his headlamps and tender pickups too
And Emily is missing a fly wheel , tender pickups & headlamp
And even with the priorites fkr gordon, his rods do jam, some people have reported it, trainboy notably
Unfortunate to hear that, hopefully I'll be getting Gordon soon so I can see that.
@DansTrainRoom I'd love to see you take a look at some dapol locos, I think the terriers are OK, and so are the panniers, the tender locos would be most interesting though
I'm worried I've boxed myself into a bit of a Thomas-only corner at this point lol.
Hopefully will check out some Dapol locos in the future!
The Face Is HIDEOUS (in My Opinion) 🥰🤩😍 Also, No Number 12 And Handrails Above The Smokebox? Smh…
Atleast they got it accurate.
You know they didn't do that so they can release it next year and call it a new model like red Rosie 😂
@DansTrainRoom I wouldn’t be surprised if they did.
Here's hoping for Edward next year.
It's only right and fitting that the franchise's first character is announced in the 80th anniversary year. 🤞😀🤞
I highly doubt they'll do that but it would be great!
@@DansTrainRoom Hope springs eternal 😀
I am hoping for a Mavis … she could re use the Toby chassis !
Her and a black james re colour from the adventure begins in N scale …
They would be nice for the 80th !
I can see people turning this model into a N Gauge GNR Stirling Single
That would be interesting, like they have with the 009 Talyllyn models.
Thanks for watching!
Emily's Bachmann model doesn't have the number #12 on her tender
So they can sell a different version next year like Red Rosie
need dan's running board discussion hour
New podcast coming soon
N Scale Emily has the zoomies almost as badly as a kitten!
Zoomin'
Doing a race with em, Emily is demolishing the race.
For sure
Im part of that 1.9%🔥🔥🔥
I'll save you a seat at the top 🔥
@ lets goo🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cant wait to see how gordon looks
Me too, and the express coaches!
@DansTrainRoom yes..but tbh. I wanna see how gordon looks with the tomix coaches. It would be cool..I've already heard great things about the model, and that as predicted....very fast
I will absolutely be putting him with the Tomix coaches once I have him 😉 I do think they'll be a little huge though!
@@DansTrainRoom but accurate since the coaches in the tv show for the models did sit a tiny bit higher than his tender
Fair critisms on coaches and im not tge best with mechanisms so i cant say there but the tender draw bar might be like it to prevent wires hanging too lo and geting snagged on points (have that issue with a hornby mallared in 00) the small hole i thonk you were jokeing (im autistic i struggle with sarcasm) but it would be hard to get a small hole there on n guage 00 yes should be but not n guage
Overall good video and im subing keep up the good work!
Two of my other N scale locos have exposed wires connecting to the tender and I haven't had any problems with them. Bachmann knows how to make better models, they just cheaped out here.
@DansTrainRoom yes i do agrew there i was just preposing a theory
Just waiting for Edward 😔
Hopefully it doesn't take as long as HO Edward did!
Sad to see Bachmann is already starting to go downhill quality wise with there n scale range.
Yeah it sucks but I have hope for Diesel, very hard to mess up.
well I know what I’m never buying now
Like your reveiw but cut out the swearing, it is NOT necessary.
Unfortunately if I don't swear, UA-cam will mark the video as "for kids," and its visibility will be severely limited. So in a way it is necessary. Thanks for watching!
TOMIX wins again!
If only they didn't stop
That is, dissapointing to say the least.
Very disappointed, hope Gordon is better
Bachmann fell off hard with this model from what I seen.
Very unfortunate turn of events
Meh.
this might as well be an april fools video
Should've pulled a Simon A.C. Martin and made Emily compete in a tug of war with your other models 😂
That might be in order for Bachmann VS Tomix videos 🤔
