  • Although winter isn't technically off season for off roaders (our most recent snow wheeling video is perfect proof of that!), it is still a great time to fix whatever is broken on your off road rigs! Or, in my husband's case, break your wife's Jeep to give yourself new things to fix!

I am totally digging the winter maintenance series. Anyone who is realistic about wheeling understands that stuff just doesn't fix and maintain itself. You guys are keeping it moving along and Chris and Bec are great together and Chris is a wizard. Don't you guys dare change a thing.

Chris, your attention-to-detail is impressive to say the least. Fighting for the best control arm angles while accounting for truss modification to support servicing and not sacrificing capability had me like... DAYM!!!! Seriously though, highly impressive. Happy New Years!

Chris, I suspect you've encountered equipment with bolts, etc., down under everything where no human sized hands could ever work on them. That fabrication on the rear end of the frame is just excellent!! It's amazing what happens when the guy (or gal) that designs and builds it, expects to have to work on it!

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm with Kevin on him saying he'll just "keep breaking things" so that Britt can't afford more clothes. lol. That was a funny comeback from Kevin, but I wouldn't have expected anything else. lol. And Bec's Jeep is looking amazing! Can't wait to see it on some trails.

One of the nicer points of breaking things when at home is having the convenience of the right tools, stores, and time to work on things that would be a royal pain if on the trail. Major points for Chris. His ability to fix and fabricate are amazing. A few points for Kevin with guy logic(keep breaking things so Brittney can only afford crop tops). Reminds me of Kevin and Brittney's hiking trip where 75% of the filming was Kevin's Booty Cam. And of course major points for the "Double B Team" for their willingness to put up the hijinks of the guys.

Chris instead drilling broken bolts out use your welder .Weld a washer to the broken bolt weld a nut to the washer then quitch with water or penetrating' oil then turn the broken bolt out Just be patent and even if the washer breaks free just keep welding washers and nuts on it will come out have done it many times have never not been able to get any broken bolt out with this process.

So the going to the dump and reversing and hitting the brakes.. that reminds me of when I did that while active duty. I had a 93 ford ranger 4 banger and we were moving gear from one container to another. Had a huge tent setup in the bed and I tried to drop it infront of the new container. Well, I forgot about the tailgate and I had a good running start. Hit the brakes, tent caught the tailgate and the front wheels came off the ground. Spent 3 hrs trying to get that tent pushed off the tailgate enough to take it off and get the tent out. The good times.

Kingpins are more work to put together. Ball joints are super simple. But a kingpin will handle much higher loads without any wear. A vehicle may go through several sets of ball joints before a kingpin needs any work. But on a buggy, ball joints are fine, they just arent heavy enough for a kingpin to make sense.
