  • Recently while I was at The Post newspaper office in Buea doing my ad hoc job as editorial consultant for this leading newspaper, I came across a newspaper article that was reporting on a recent Kumba City Council Meeting that concluded with warnings issued by the Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, regarding perception of misappropriation of public funds and even diversion of council tax collection activity from the mainstream to the mean stream. The SDO is reported to have said that the national anti-corruption campaign, the Operation Sparrow-Hawk, may be made to land on those caught embezzling funds of the council.
I also just came from reading a news tip in one of the private media of the city alleging that the four elected mayors of the councils are at the neck of the appointed Government Delegate accusing him for hyper centralization or concentration of the public money in the city to himself.
I tried during this week to get to see the Government Delegate to have his first-hand views on these and other matters arising in the city that have attracted my attention; for some reasons that I may still have to investigate many a city-dwellers of the town are coming to me to explain their individual and collective concerns and would want me to use my position as movement leader to get to meet the VIPs of the city to seek for explanations and redress. Too bad that for the six or so times I have tried to meet this Government Delegate of my City of Birth to share views with him, I have always been unable to have a gentlemanly acceptance of my presence at the City Hall premises. The new town leader after Nnoko Mbelle just does not seem able to warm up to my presence and person and personality. And that is fine with me; at least for now. He who laughs last, laughs best, I heard somewhere.
