Thanks for this video, I was trying to read what Lowe's said on their website and it was like reading Greek. This was very simple, straightforward, and turns out I was doing it "almost" correctly... so I'm glad I double-checked. :)
Doesn't show clearly what you mean by measuring the depth of the jamb. The linked document, which is supposed to go into more detail, doesn't mention measuring the depth at all.
I just installed Ken weld sliding patio door with built in blinds and either the paper work blew off in hauling home or it got misplaced, there was a couple stickers that got scraped off but how do you remove the red plastic pieces so I can lower the blinds.
It's not clear i didn't know where did you measure you circled the 72 inches but it was 69.5 and I guess there is no need to make it difficult by measuring from each corners
Britt Parrish thank you for you input. I am a home owner and was just about to replace my windows myself after watching this video as he made it seem so easy. I will hire a professional, and not through Lowe’s or Home Depot.
When you bend the tape measure at the end we can’t tell what the measurement is, explain that, and zoom the camera in so we can see what you’re doing! And SLOW down!
Why do you need to know the measurement of that particular window? That’s not your window... maybe if you want to order a replacement window for them I guess.
When you order windows at a millworks store (or millworks department in a big box store), they will take the width of drywall or other finish materials into account after you simply measure from one finished side to the other. You just tell them how it is finished (drywall, wood, etc.) and they figure it out from there.
I'm also wondering this. I have a window that I've torn the jambs off from the interior and I'm confused. Do I measure the rough opening of the cut out for the window? It's a singlewide mobile home with the aluminum factory windows. (Cheap)
The graphics were more useful than watching the dude's backside. You could have brought in the camera for a close up view of the actual measurements. Tip: never use a dark window frame for camera work without proper lighting.
@@andrewm2786 and the bottom of the replacement window will be sloped to match the sill or will some type of filler need to be installed to make up for the space between the sloped sill and flat window bottom?
@@pkey749 they pretty much all come sloped, the new window will probably be a little bit smaller than the old window. The rough opening on the bottom will be flat so it'll just sit on top of it regardless of the slope
After tornado contractor put jenweld windows in. Hate them, glue all over that can't be remover. Hard to clean. Plus because contractor bought them, I can't even get any satisfaction from factory.

*We're very happy with the unit. Pretty Easy to instal **Fastly.Cool** too.*
Before doing all of the measuring, I decided to see if my failed windows had a size tag still attached. Turned out - they all did!
This video production is great for 2012, crazy!
Thanks for the instruction on how to measure a window for replacement. Appreciate it.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I need to know the same thing.
you refer to this document twice and then dont put a link in the description...
I just noticed (after posting the link) that your comment is old. I assume that you figured it out. :)
@@vanessamaccormick4387 Thanks Vanessa - I was frustrated trying to find the doc on your web site. Much appreciated.

How is the length 72" when it shows 70" on the tape measure
I ordered this for a small bedroom in our temple and it works great. The noise is not that high.

I think he added the 1 1/2in arch window just a guess 😂
Pretty lousy detail of measurements shown, especially the depth measurement.

I really don’t understand, other videos I watched said to add in the half inch of drywall on either side to the measurements.

looking for an attachment? you kept referencing one.
The window will be smaller than the Old window. You need to( measure )the old frame if you want the same size window
That's how I placed my order. Measuring from the exterior frame. I hope it's all good.
Hey anybody can help I’m having trouble with a window measurement the Rough opening is 35x58 would my window size be 34.5x57.5?

No one has wood windows. How do i measure the plastic stuff?!
And Is that your rough opening size or your actual window size thanks
They'll add 1/4" when you buy them to accommodate the rough opening
@lmc both because youre measuring the frame
I'D GO WITH WHATEVER SIZE I COULD COMFORTABLY DIVE THRU WHEN HER OL MAN GETS HOME...(J.S.)...

What is the web address for the measurement document
What is a sash? You say move it out of the way, but what the heck is it? The window?
Could not hear voice music over bearing
How do you measure if the sill slopes? My windows slope down from inside to outside.
Measure from the highest point to the inside of the top right above

Very Poor! Poor description and images of the edges of WHERE you measure....

You have to measure the out side of the window

why can't you people understand that we don't know where to measure from. normal people don't understand that!

This video is 100% useless for understanding where to measure from/to.
This is awful! Let’s use window jargon without definitions. Hey let’s use some windows from 1950 as a reference... They should just remove this video
But the windows I am replacing are from a house built in 1920.
