Omg the beginning with Maury nervously chatting, it’s the best. Maury I think we have the same brains. Hope to get a guitar from you again someday. A D-18 in fact! Sorry for all my emails over the years and few purchases, but you always treat me great regardless.

The d 18 sounds so much fuller and articulate- looks like you get what you pay for, Martin knows what they’re doing.

The 16 sounds great when you’re in the room and it records well. It only seems deficient when you’re playing the two back to back. You can always turn up the mix.

I'm glad to see this is catching on! Great comparison of two beautiful guitars - shame I'm no longer in the market for dreadnoughts (even the shallow body D is uncomfortable for me). Cheers!

The D16e has a smaller body because it’s a performing artist stage instrument. It’s a shallow body of course it’s not going to be as deep, but it’s Brighter, and very comfortable.

no comparison Thick full sound vs thinner nice light tone...18 is maybe the best overall guitar in the world

Just discovered this video, nice comparison. The D18 to me sounded to have more volume, but the tone between the two seemed very similar. specially when being finger picked.

I have a D-18 and a D-16E Rosewood and the D16 finger picks extremely well. For those who want a smaller guitar the D16 gives you the smaller size without the boxiness that people hear on a traditional 000 size guitar. The volume is there but it doesn't have all the overtones and deep bass of a traditional dreadnought. They are built as good as any guitar I have ever owned. Better than a lot of guitars. Now if I could get a Sinker mahogany D16 without the pickup and a traditional dovetail neck joint I would have the perfect guitar.

D-16 is $850 less than the D-18. The sound is very close, buy the whole set (d-28/d-35). It's easier than collecting cars. :)

Prefer Eastman's E10D than Martin's D16e ! If you want Mahogany back and side, choose Martin D18 or Eastman E10D ;)

The 16 sounds great both strumming and picking but the 18 really shines when picked IMO..

I recently purchased a D16 Martin and it’s a very good guitar. It sounds bright with lots of tona with a mid range bass response. The D18 feels more solid being entirely made of mahogany and resonates beautifully not matter what the tune is being played. The bottom line is it doesn’t matter what model Martin you play they are simply the best steel string acoustic guitars available.

@@fishermarine4576 I have a Taylor 214ce DLX and while I don't have a D16e I do have a Martin 000-12e Koa, and a 000-10e Sapele and I love them all. They all have different tone and playability and they all have a place in repertoire.

I own a D-16e sycamore. It’s not a dread. It’s kind of a 0000 with some bite in the base. Play nickel strings and enjoy that sound for what it is.

I recently purchased a D16 mahogany and I wish I would have been able to have seen a review by owners and not salesman . The guitar is O K but that's it . Its very hard to play and the sound is O K . In my opinion this is a $1000 guitar at best . Thanks to UA-cam for removing owners reviews .

I suppose d 16 is more beautiful while d 18 sounds wider than the 16.
