    I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
    My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
    My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

    Hi Tom, I am a German 63 year old golf beginner, just received my license to play golf and am browsing youtube lessons to find a trainer who I understand what he means. You are such a coach. I don't understand every word, but the youtube transcript helps me. tilt and connect are keywords for me. Yesterday i caught myself on the tee when i said to the ball: "Hello ball, how are you today". I had to laugh spontaneously. Your "connect" video did a good job 🙂Thanks alot. Best regards from Germany

    👍 I watched a few videos of Toms on UA-cam and decided to give him a try. Signed up to his monthly plan and watched some training videos. I then decided to take up the option of a lesson and send in some clips of my swing.
    His response was quick 👍 he then sends back a voice over and points out your problems in your swing and also sends out the drills to help fix them.
    It’s the best help I have ever had.
    Within a couple of sessions my swing is getting better and being able to go back to reference points on my phone is a fantastic help.
    If you guys out there have a garden and can set up a practice net it will help a lot.
    Keep up the good work young man 👍

      Thanks Matt - I'm very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you!!
      With regard to watching different videos from different sources, yes - there are plenty of great teachers out there, but please do be careful when navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction as it can get very confusing. It's best to embrace a method and a coach - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance Stack and Tilt swing or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. For example, my channel's lessons and tips are not a compilation of band-aid fixes - they are all elements of the comprehensive system that I teach. Now, could someone deploy one of my tips to field dress a swing wound? Absolutely. However, it will ultimately serve them far better - and will stand the test of time and pressure - if they adopt the methodology in its entirety, and that is precisely what my online school does in a structured and sequential learning environment. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. After watching Tom's UA-cam videos at the end of last golf season ('20) and his series on 'Mr. Hogan'...I put these drills to use on the range and then on the course. Wow! My ball striking improved tremendously! I then joined Tom's Online Golf School to work on my swing and ball striking through the winter and would highly recommend it. He distills the elements of the golf swing, making it a much more repeatable motion, which (to me) is the key to improved consistency. Thanks, Tom...you've made the game even more fun!

    Tom, muscle memory after using the traditional swing method for decades is hard to break. Been at this now for about 3 weeks initially I lost some distance, but now it's coming back along with more consistence and solid contacts, maybe about 70% overall.
    Couple of things I learned from your classes, a bit stronger grip vs my neutral grip seems to be better for me and I like the slight draw effect. Having my arm along the chest for the first 3 feet and club head facing downwards aligned with spine and not turning hands works great, just a few takes that have helped.
    The Biggest difference is that I no longer have that sore upper back after 18 like before, less stress on the old bod. At 71, I can still break 80 from the white Tees, but now I feel I can get that extra speed without hurting myself, lol.
    Thanks

    Interesting Tom - Like many people I have taken the term 'takeaway' to heart - In practice that means that the first thing the new golfer believes he should be doing is moving the club away from the ball with his arms - not with his torso rotating and the triangle formed by his arms/chest staying more or less intact.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому

      @arun sharma - Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as actively snatching the club back with the hands and arms - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness!

      As for driver loft, that's going to all come down to what works best for you based on your swing speed and ball flight. My best suggestion - once you've got your swing locked down - is to go to a demo day at a local golf course practice range and try the different heads, lofts, shafts, etc. They'll usually have a Trackman (or something similar) to give you the numbers, plus you'll be able to see the ball flight. I think it's the best way to make an educated decision.

      There has been quite a bit of dialogue in the Members' Forum of my online school on the topic of how to transport "Ranger Rick" to the golf course. We all experience that! All I can tell you is that it is part of the process, and as your practice performance becomes more and more consistent, then it's just a function of time in terms of when/how that will translate itself to the pressures and challenges of actual play. As confidence in your swing grows you should find more and more that you are playing "golf" instead of "golf swing" on the course, at which point your mechanical thoughts will be reduced to one or two at the most, and you will be nearly entirely focused on your target and not your swing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +3

      Golf is most definitely not "easy", but it certainly can be dramatically simplified!!
      The golf swing is indeed overly complicated in particular by one part of the human body - the brain and all the swing nonsense and misguided instruction it has been fed. Garbage in, garbage out; and countless golf swings have sadly been trashed as a result. This is not saying that golf is "easy" as it most certainly is anything but. However, the perceived and overstated complexities of the swing itself can be greatly simplified to convey motions that are body-friendly and physiologically sound, and which simultaneously and effectively harness physics and geometry to produce a most satisfying and long-lasting experience. That's what my instruction style is rooted in, and I'm very glad to know that it is resonating well with you!

They would say rotate but the is so much easier to understand. If you rotate your shoulder under your chin you automatically make a perfect backswing and in order to make a downswing you have to rotate that shoulder the other way. Hi Tom, I've been learning so much from you. Thank you. Is it possible to tilt down to steep? Lately on my downswing it doesn't feel quite right so I'm hoping it is just because I am starting my swing to steep. Does that make sense to you? TY,
    Terri

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Terri,
      "Weight forward, shoulder down, hands in, tilt/turn/extend." These are the basic precepts of Stack & Tilt, and we marry them together to create this powerful, consistent, body-friendly swing. So if we tilt without extending, or if we fail to bring the hands on an inward path, or if we allow the weight to shift back, etc., something will break down. Combining the motions, however, is not nearly as difficult as it may sound as long as you have the proper instruction.
      Try this... If you tilt toward the target while keeping your head in place you will introduce the other components of turning and extending to put your body in the perfect backswing position with your shoulder oriented downward towards the ball. To get a feel for the coordinating of these elements we can reverse engineer it like this: Without a club in your hands rest the top of your forehead against a wall to keep it in place. Without allowing your head to move execute the forward side tilting motion and watch what happens. Magically your lead shoulder has turned downward and your spine has extended!!
      Here's another way to go about it:
      1) Get into your setup posture
      2) Stand up straight (extend)
      3) While standing erect (extended) tilt your upper body towards the target, keeping your hips in place. (In other words, if you are right-handed, stand up straight and tilt your torso to the left like it's the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Vice versa obviously for lefties.)
      4) Now that you are extended and tilted, turn your upper body as you would in your backswing, keeping your weight forward while allowing your hips to turn 45 degrees and your trail leg to straighten.
      There you have your backswing - tilted, turned, and extended!!
      Beyond this, it is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. 1st 100 balls hitting with the secret tilt sauce today & I picked up 5 mph swing speed and ~ the same yardage, it's a start (and yes, different muscles are sore so I changed something) yet a number of shanks happened which would seem to indicate that I'm moving closer to the ball on the downswing, so maybe my tilt is still going down on the downswing? Does that make sense? Any thoughts appreciated Tom

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Рік тому +1

      A 5 mph gain in swing speed on your first try is certainly significant! You've likely changed your downswing path and any setup adjustments you may have made previously - consciously or subconsciously - will now have a different effect on your impact condition. For example, if you had been lining the ball up closer to the heel of the club to compensate for toe strikes - a common result of an over the top path - then it could be that with the improved path you are now exposing the hosel to the ball. If this is the case then the fix may be something as simple as centering the ball on the face at address.
      There are entire sections of my online school dedicated to resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues. Have you looked into it? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. • @SagutoGolf

      @Patrick Murphy - Yes - always keep "Rome" in mind as you weather the ups and downs. What I teach is a complete golf swing system, not a series of tips, band-aids, and fixes for field dressing swing wounds. As such, the transformation takes time as we work to gradually eradicate those stubborn ghosts of swings past. It's a very worthwhile process, though, as it ultimately leads us to the land of consistent ball striking bliss. That is also why the sequential, comprehensive, structured learning platform of the school is far superior to trying to haphazardly piece things together through a series of YT videos.
      Keep up the hard work, and I'll hope to see you soon in the school!

    Great swing thought - TILT. Focus on tilt gives you excellent takeaway, depth at top of back-swing. Combine this with tilt on the follow through gives you and excellent swing without thinking about all components. Online school - Just do it, well worth the small investment.

    Love and appreciate your videos Tom! However, I’ve had an issue with the tilting because it causes my head to go down a few inches on the backswing which causes inconsistency for contact. But I noticed your head doesn’t go down much when you swing. How can I prevent that from happening? Thanks!

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Craig,
      My primary suggestion is that you consider enrolling in my online school. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year it'll get you on the fast track to owning this swing through short, simple, step-by-step videos. Here's a link if you'd like more info: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga. It is important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of the online school.
      Anyway, here's a quick tip in answer to your question about the head dropping during the tilt:
      4) Now that you are extended and tilted, turn your upper body as you would in your backswing, keeping your weight forward while allowing your hips to turn 45 degrees and your trail leg to straighten.
      There you have your backswing - tilted, turned, and extended!!
      I hope this helps, and I hope to see you in the online school!
      Tom

And thusly we exclaim: _"Welcome to 'the dark side', where the spoils of "conventional" instruction - chronic inconsistency, physical pain, and endless frustration - yield to the fruits of effortless and body-friendly enjoyment of this great game for a lifetime."_ 😆

    Good stuff!! But, What about Moe Norman’s golf swing? Is it crispy or extra crispy? What is your professional opinion?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому

      Sure - Moe himself was extra crispy - a legendary ballstriker for certain!
      While the Stack and Tilt swing I teach shares the single plane feature, it is definitely different from the Moe Norman version and for this reason I do not recommend crisscrossing between the two methods as it would certainly lend itself to confusion. This should not be construed as a knock against Mr. Norman's renowned prowess or the style of instruction that he inspired; it's simply that components of his swing style are not compatible with S&T. So my best suggestion to those who are weighing these two methods is to choose one or the other, but not both!
      Cheers,

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  3 роки тому

      Hi Walt,
      Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies are on my near future to-do list for the online school, where in addition to the intuitive, structured, self-guided learning platform for the full swing I've got loads of content on all other aspects of the game, from chipping, pitching, bunker play, and putting to the finer points such as ball flight rules, shot shaping, and more. It's really a steal at just $10 US/month or $99 US/year. If you haven't already done so I invite you to check it out here: saguto.golf/p/golf-swing-simplified-tom-saguto-pga.
      Having said that, the short answer with regard to uphill lies is to match your shoulders to the angle of the slope and stay centered through the swing motion. It is understood that some pressure may shift to your trail side according to the severity of the slope. Just do you best to keep from swaying as that will shift your low point and cause inconsistent results.
      Thanks,
      Tom

    My left shoulder feels like its pointed in front of the ball now and I'm hitting it really consistently. An added benefit is that I can keep my eye on the ball. Previously I was taking the club straight back, while trying to point my lead shoulder at the ball. This would take me off center and off the ball to the point where I lost sight of it.
