- Visiting Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon in South Iceland is an experience that transcends mere sightseeing-it’s an encounter with the sublime forces of nature and a journey into a landscape of surreal beauty.
If you need more info about this place or need more logistical details for visiting the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, check out my blog: juliasomething.com/jokulsarlo...
Situated at the edge of Vatnajökull National Park, Jökulsárlón is the largest and most renowned glacier lagoon in Iceland, offering visitors a spectacle unlike any other.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon was formed from the melting waters of the surrounding glaciers, a vivid testament to the dynamic nature of Iceland's landscape.
The lagoon is continuously fed by the calving of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, a process where ice breaks off from the glacier and drifts into the lagoon, creating icebergs of varying sizes, shapes, and hues of blue and white, tinged with black ash from ancient volcanic eruptions.
After admiring the lagoon, you can cross the street to admire the famous Diamond Beach. Note that both sides (of the bridge) are called Diamond Beach, so depending on the season, there can be small pieces of ice on both of them. But when I was there, there was ice on only one side, the beach, after you cross the bridge. You only need to pay for parking once, and it's valid for both parking lots.

Thanks! Yes, you have to drive the Ring Road, it's an amazing experience. And plan at least one week for the whole thing, if not more, because there is so much to do and see.
