Hurdler Infinite Tucker dives over finishing line to win race

- A Texas A&M hurdler took first in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2019 SEC Track & Field Championships by leaping across the finish line and landing on his face. Infinite Tucker, a junior from Long Island, became a viral sensation as video of Saturday's remarkable finish made its way around social media. Tucker, who finished second in the same race in 2017, held the lead after the final hurdle, but lost his advantage to teammate Robert Grant a few steps later. As the two approached the finish line, Tucker leapt forward, extending his arms to win the race. 'Look, I closed my eyes over hurdle 10. I opened it, saw my ma at the finish, and I jumped to give her a hug,' Tucker told ESPN after the race. 'That's all it is.' Tucker braced his fall, somewhat, with his hands, but the majority of the impact seemed to be absorbed by his face. Grant knelt over him for a moment after the race before training staff could tend to Tucker, whose time of 49.38 was the best collegiate mark of the year. Aggies coach Pat Henry had previously warned Tucker against jumping through the finish line. 'I've told Tucker you can't get there faster diving, just run through and you'll be fine,' Henry told the school's website . 'He thought he was a swim team guy today.'

Imagine him diving too early and not crossing the finish line
No
That would be an epic fail fr
@@eamparbeng mmhm i guess...
😂😭😭
that would be irrefutable evidence for the devil at work!!!!!!!!!
The other runner is like "I didn't know diving was allowed."
nah....diving is stupid....it stops you from pushing forward as you are in the air....one more step is one more push of forward force instead of slowing down from air resistance.
I think the visual reference is the point of diving, the hand being their basis for crossing the line. @@robjohnson9270
@@robjohnson9270when you run you are pushing up against gravity as well as away from the ground to move forward, when you dive you direct potentially marginally more force forward and less upward hence the falling. so technically there’s more forward movement and no upward movement, like in a free body diagram. and as others said it was likely due to the appearance that he was stumbling
also, a prone body has less air resistance than a standing body when traveling forward. not that it makes any difference in the last fraction of a second in the race
Ask Allyson Felix. She lost Olympic gold in the 400m because the other person dove on her. She looked at her like wth was that?
❤😂exactly
Think he dove because he knew he was stumbling and gonna go down. Regardless, hellava move!
he literally explains why he jumped
@@Trent2K9 yes but was he lying to hide that he tripped.
It looked that way to me too. Seemed like he overran himself and was falling forward then amazingly dove for the line instead.
Sure was a HELL OF A MOVE...!!! To risk great bodily injury in order to win..!!! He deserved the prize..!!!
Does this count? What are the rules? Do your feet have to cross the finish line first or can it be any part of you? Did this guy just rewrite the rule book??
Outrunning a blue shell when you are seconds from the finish line
Reading this while I’m playing Mario Kart Wii online!
@@AbsoluteLunatic123Unfair as hell online but you gotta love it more than 8DX
@@Invictyn yeah I do love it more than MK8DX. Must be nostalgia but smart bouncing green shells also ruin it for me.
Been a while I not play Mario kart but yeah remember those heat seeking red shells, they would just blow you over the finish line 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 yes
Legend has it that Infinite yelled "To infinity and beyond" as he leaped
😆🤣😂
I don't like to use "LOL" or "literally" because they're overused and misused, but I literally LOL'ed from that comment.
Lol
😂 nice reference
falling with style.
I always love athletes getting interviewed right after they exert themselves. It's like "yeah let me just use the few breaths I have left in my body for your interview" 😆
lmfao fr 😂😂
Looks contagious, his teammate also caught it and dove and rolled. This is brilliant championship comedy LOL
Teammate?
I always wondered if a leap would also count 😂😂😂
@@licanisbeastilarica5761 yeah the first and second place were both texas a&m
Honestly I've wondered why more sprinters haven't done this on close races. Lol
Because the ground is like sandpaper
Injury, not everyone has practiced falling as much as we used to in martial arts.
Because it's concrete, not grass.
@@H.K.5 its not concrete?
@@H.K.5 not concrete just rubber. Still hurts
he was competing against his teammate too 💀
This is an individual pursuit. you think hes thinking "I don't really care where I finish as long as if one of my team mates win it" smh
He said screw the team mate I want this.
@@TylerDurden-cu6izyeah that's why he made it all about him like a diva
Mamba Mentality
He definitely didn't want to lose whatever bet they had in place😂
He knew his legs were about to give out so he did a Superman. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He definitely jumped because he was falling. It preserved the win over simply stumbling and falling, but it would not be a useful strategy to plan in advance.
Exactly this it was amazing improv bc i think most people wouldnt think to jusy launch themselves and he did
That dude didn't jump to give anyone a hug. He jumped cause he wanted to WIN … like … REALLY bad! lol
Well he said what he said lol
No
So did the other guy
I agree, but aren’t they on the same team?
@@ivi122 yes ... but this is an INDIVIDUAL race. 1st place is not shared ... and that dude wanted it super bad.
Let's be fair... that is epic commitment
Infinite became a legend. I will never ever forget that. That is how important it is to win. Congratulations!
That was cheating
@@Jimmy20492049 wdym
He became a clown.
I’ve been watching these matches and sobbing as the underdog found his strength to prevail. But THIS one was down right funny. 😂
He really said : It's not over until I win!!🤣🤣🤣
An interesting problem for a physics class: the instant he took his last stride, his body actually began slowing down- but by stretching forward, he was going faster, in a sense. Not question that he won, but I suspect he would have won anyway if he'd continued striding. Same question about a baseball player sliding head-first into first base...
Ah, but did his center of mass speed up, or was it just that going horizontal added length?
Nobody tell him he was gonna win anyways. Let him have his moment
While everybody is talking about the dive I’m just looking at the sportsmanship by the 2nd place runner going to check in on him to see if he was ok
Only thing he saying while on the ground. “Did I win!!!”
😂😂 bro has to win at all costs
Welp, it is as the song says: “I believe I can soar. I see me running through that open door. I believe I can fly …” 🏃🏿

We canceled him

Crap gonna be humming this all day now 😭
He still would’ve won tho...
You don't know. Did his legs ran out then? You don't know.
I did this too, and I wouldn't have won if I wouldn't have jump slide to get the thingy on the floor in yard in the sport I was doing.

He definitely would of won either way
When he graduated and interviewed for jobs, he had a great answer the question "How committed are you to your goals?"
Perfect demonstration of the word yeet!
I know this feeling is strange, but what a storng willing of winning. A little tear appear in my cheek.
Props to his effort as this was an important race for him.
No pain no glory ill give it all for this moment teeth screaming noooooo as he dives in for the kill lol what a boss
Sir, swimming practice starts next week...
This guy was actually in front when he dived. Probably would have won anyway. High risk move to dive.
This is the ultimate “I’m just gonna start jogging here to make it look like I didn’t trip over my own feet” recovery.
Determination at its hilairioust!😂😂😂😂
The interview though.... Now tgats sportsmanship! 💪🏾😎👍🏾
what a G to say that post interview.
THAT is how you win a race man. What an effort!
The sportmanship amongst teammates. ❤
Imagine this becoming the new meta and everyone dives across the finish line at the next Olympic games
That right there is the will to win.
A Lightning McQueen moment
i saw this video someone using as a reference material in their video. They can't use this right?
they will have copyright on them right????
depends on the broadcasters rules i suppose.
Just like a Black Friday shopper trying to get the last Play Station!
He really loved his mom😊🤣thats all it is.
The other fellow was entirely across the line while the jumpers feet were still not over the line.
that's my confusion too. I was under the impression the time was scored from the feet or chest. otherwise why wouldn't literally every sprinter be diving hands first at the line?
He said "What teammates?" .... I'm by myself 😂😂😂👌🏾👌🏾🤷🏽♀️
It actually looks like he’s starting to stumble, so he just made it into a dive, instead of falling.
Perfect example of if you want to be the best you have to go big.
He didn't need to dive. What a guy. 👍🏽😆💪🏼
He tripped and then dove to win. It's not illegal it's genius
Yeah, if he tried to fix his posture, he will be passed by that second guy. Split second decision
Him: I can't lose to the white boy, I can't lose to the white boy!
Dives!
🤣🤣🤣
1 word: *Dedication.*
This is one of my all time favourite vids omg lol
NEYMAR JR looking at this guy dive: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN!!!!
After running 400 meters full of hurdles, that dive was impressive 😂 That’s a painful race!
If youve ever tripped on the track you know that rash is no joke 😂
So any body part crossing the line first is okay? I thought it had to be either your foot or your head. Or did they just count his head, not his hands?
He made sure he hit his face on ground just to make sure he hit the line
Okay, if your first name is Infinite, I would expect nothing less. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If whatever sanctioning body this is under has it so the time is scored at the hands, that would be incredibly bizarre and dumb because now every sprinter would just train to dive over the line.
The governing body is called World Athletics, and it’s not based off the hands. It is (and has been for many years) based when the shoulders/torso crosses.
@@Elliottklassen While running. Not diving.
With a name like that, he had no choice but to do everything possible to win, and he did
He gives a new meaning of "winning at all cost." 😂
Lolol, he didn't even need to dive, he would've won that regardless. 🤣🤣🤣
The best part is everybody laughing at the instant replay
His name is "infinite"? What modest parents he has. 😂
Sir this isn't the Olympic Diving Competition.
All that pain for a mili-second difference
he dove because he was falling forward and did the leap of faith. Maybe totally running out of gas or legs feeling like lead at the end. Perfectly timed dive @ the 11 sec mark. I did the replay many times and I clock him at 49.1 ish. Smart move to win the race. The official time is 49.38 but I always thought the time clocked when the chest crosses the line.
Now the REALLY hard part. Walking to the podium with 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Is the appropriate response to seeing that happen next to you to: a) look round in astonishment; or b) do a forward roll?
Imagine him diving and hugging Grant and they fell behind the finishing line hugging each other!
Looks like he was leading and didn't have to dive. The dive made the race closer than it actually was.
Where there's a will there's a way. 😂😂😂
If you cant run then fly
That launch and subsequent takeoff reminded me of those old-school cartoons when the characters could transform into a rocket 🚀 or a speedboat 🚤. Hey, come to think of it, he could actually be one of the Transformers. Wassup, Bumblebee🐝?!
Runner's brain:
Should I keep running and preserve my health and lose or should I just throw myself over the line and risk to break several bones and win?
Option 2 sounds better
Still would have won haha
Nope, because he was going to fall. And that's why he dives
Them ragdoll physics have really come a long way
Do long jumpers run the last two meters?
_You win from within_
Well, you gotta want it!
In Fiji they call the guy who did that “TheDiveMan’😂
I love this!
I'm not sure how I feel about this because if you want to you could take the position of,
"Well he's cheated because you should be running over the finish line and NOT diving like Superman across it."
I'm guessing there's nothing in the rules to say you aren't allowed to do that though because the result still stood did it not?
I think he did that because you can see that he was starting to fall a little so he just dived.
He actually realized he was about fall and be short of the tape took an extra step and dove smart kid.
What’s the official rule for a track race? What part of the body is considered crossing the finish line? Is it any part of your body thst passes the line? Could it be hand or fingers? or is it just your head or your torso? (or even a knee?) etc.
Torso
@@Len_J_ Thanks for your lengthy response. Is that a fact?, or is this something you’re just assuming? Even in the thumbnail for this video, when they’re leaning in, their head is way more closer to the finish line then their torso. So, I’m curious to what’s the official rule? (example; when they do a photo finish I never recall them talking about the torso being the head of the other persons torso)
-
If you can elaborate more, than just a “one word” answer, that would be much appreciated.
His teammate was like “He not gonna out do me.” 😂
What a finish!
He did a Superman 😊
He had that race. That was totally unneccesary
I feel like I'm watching an anime.
WAS THIS A RELAY RACE?
It'll be so cool if he learned the dive roll, but mad respect for diving straight on concrete.
Ballsy move that paid off 🔥🔥
His impact was so strong it knocked the other guy over too!
What a sportsman !
Intense, that was effort!
He deserves the win if he wanted it so much
Is it a running race or gymnastics?
HE WON TWO 1ST. PLACE TROPHIES..... THE 220 & BEST DIVE
If you want to win you got to do anything.
His name is Infinite Tucker and he competes in the hurdles lol
Dont think that should be allowed to be honest, but what do I know?
Have you ever ran track? Let me rephrase. Have you have ran full speed then tried to dive into something? There's a reason why LJ, TJ, and hurders slow down ever so slightly before a jump and pace themselves. It's to generate maximum power in a leap. Diving wouldn't give sprinters any added advantage except for maybe short distance races, 60m/100m. Sprinters who dive are usually ones who are about to fall. There's no performance advantage other than preventing the sprinter losing too much speed during a fall. If for any reason it should be banned, it should be for safety concern. However you'd have a hard time doing so as it is a natural reaction to stumbling at full speed... for athletes primed to reach a goal.
@@desecration171 still don't think it should be allowed. It's a sprint and that is how the race should be won...by sprinting
@@desecration171I understand your point, and believe it right. But I still don't think a runner should be allowed to win on a dive, whether falling or diving purposely. It is a race, not a jumping or diving competition. If a runner is falling down before the line it means he didn't do his job alright. Another thing is falling after the line, or after leaning forward at the line ..my thoughts!!
If Usain Bolt used this technique, he would've got the role in Superman.
