Mistake 1) Going to Korea Mistake 2) Going to NORTH Korea Mistake 3) Going to North Korea as an American Mistake 4) Going to North Korea as an American and committing a crime.
Los Illuminados He shouldn't have been there in the first place, but he shouldn't have been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor, it's just unusual and cruel
+aka.sketch Before you enter NK you go through briefs about what not to do and the repercussions. People do not travel to NK ignorant of the situation they are putting themselves in. He knew what he was doing. Unfortunately he was caught but also unfortunately he felt the need to break their law.
***** its not the girls fault, its that guys will do some unbelievably stupid things to impress women. its like gravity, an underlying phenomenon of the universe
***** i think it may be a bit more innocent than that, an off hand comment before his trip from a girl he may be crushing on turned into a plan to get a sign and some courage and ask her out.
+William E Lanning Jr what Ryan Ong is suggesting, is that the koreans wrote the lie and forced him at gun point to sign it like what happened to the vet.
Aidan Hodge Talks And what I am suggesting is this guy made a couple of dramatically stupid decisions. The first being travelling to North Korea in the first place. The second is committing a crime in the most draconic police state in the world. They KILL (outright or by slave labor in the north) their own citizens for that crime. I am having a hard time getting emotional about it when his own voluntary actions placed him in his predicament.
whether you like it or not, if you visit a country as a tourist you have to respect their laws. waving your white card or American card is like waving a bag of shit. it means nothing and you have yourselves to blame if you do something as stupid as this guy
+Trung Do you're making this way too complicated. He stole. No matter what country he's in its always a law about it(I assume). He didn't think he was gonna get away with it cause he's American he just didn't think he was gonna get caught.
Am I the only person who feels bad for him ? North Korea needs a lesson on Forgiveness Hes going to make it ... its actutually going to make him stronger he should write a book about it or make a movie all things happen in this way and could not happen in any other way Chin Up Man hang in there Godbless
yeah jeezus what a bunch of inconsiderate assholes OMG I mean for all we know he could have just been set up and since when are people believing anything that comes out of north korea?? duh they lie about everything
Here's my problem with this whole thing. This guy went to North Korea not as a tourist but to steal a propaganda poster. He was over 21, he knew what he was doing, and he got caught. Is this sentence harsh , yeah it is . However , I know a whole lot of people in the good old USA who got 50 years for stealing a rack of ribs. So if you want to deal with moral outrage, let's get some perspective.
an aboriginal man northern territory australia was sentenced for life for stealing biscuits under the three strikes rule they had,in all aussie papers at that time.so 15yrs for being an idiot is light,at least the aboriginal man was just trying to feed himself,no excuse for him and his mates and "yeah dude grab a flag or something for me ,that would be so cool" or so i recon the pre holiday conversation went.
Like I said I am not going to debate the US justice system with you. That is their country. The US is still waterboarding people right now. The North Koreans have the right to prosecute the people the way they want whether I agree with it or not. Whether his words were scripted or not is irrelevant. What is relevant he stole a sign that was of importance to the North Koreans. It would be different if he was one of those people that was just detained because he was an American, but it wasn't he committed a crime. Hell black people are shot dead by the police when they raise their arms up and they are supposed to be innocent until proving guilty. Charity begins at home. He should not have gone over there to steal. When are people going to learn that you cannot commit crimes in someone else's country then cry and say they are being mean to me?Is the country brutal? Yep but he went over there anyway. He decided to steal in a brutal country knowing that they are brutal. If you want me to feel for someone, then I will choose to feel for the people that got lost mountain climbing in China and found themselves in North Korea by mistake and got locked up. Yeah that's bad but this guy went over there of his own free will to a brutal dictatorship, to a country with brutal laws on stealing where they imprison their own people generationally. So what do you think is going to happen to an outsider? He wasn't just a sight seeing and got caught up, we saw him stealing that sign. He was on TV caught on camera. Was it harsh for what he did? Yep it was. Was it justified by our standards? Nope but we don't live in North Korea. He got off lucky, he could have been executed for stealing and in some countries they would have cut off his right hand. Remember they treat everything that involves their leader as divine. So what he did was considered to be an attack on their leader. Just because American standards don't revere their leaders, does not make that universal.
Really? I see so it was some other white guy with his height weight build hair color? I think you have gone beyond the realm of denial here into the absurd. .You said "By your position anyone who goes to any violent territory gets what they deserve if something bad happens to them. Go to the middle east and are tortured and beheaded its your fault cause you were there."Once again where did I say that? What I said is if you go to a brutal nation and commit crimes then yeah you have to accept the consequences. No where did I say that if you got harmed by simply traveling justifies your treatment. In fact, I even made that distinction. As I said you will say anything to justify that you don't believe that when you travel to other countries that you must obey their laws or be subject to their version of justice. If you can't do that, then stay in your own country and don't travel anywhere else.
"He's a 21 year old kid." I get that 15 years is an unjust sentence but don't call him a kid either. And…, How could you blame it on being drunk and being offered $200,000 if you got caught at the same time. And…, his family must have not been too strapped for cash if he's traveling overseas as a tourist.
+ArcticSlicer why do people travel to countries where they treat people like shit? Saudi Arabia? Mexico where kidnapping foreign tourists by the cartel and local gang is rampant? Simple, because of a thrill.
elias arriaga Mexico isn't that bad at all. Mexico is actually much more prosperous and safer than a number of European countries. All of the talk of criminal gangs and what not is exaggerated and isn't a problem in that country any more than it is in a lot of other countries.
I was in North Korea at the same time Otto Warmbier was there....every American tourist stays in the same hotel, even if we are from different tour groups. I met some of the people from the same tour group that Otto was with, we ate dinner together the first night we were there. This was my second trip to North Korea, and I had no problems with the trip I took in 2011, and did not anticipate any this trip, either. I know that the tour group I was with sat us down---I am sure all tour groups do this--and went over all the do's and don'ts, which actually have changed a bit....this trip I was allowed to bring in my cell phone and my computer, so no problems there. One thing we were warned about, several times, was to not try to go on the 5th floor of the Yanggakdo Hotel--that was a security area, off limits to all foreigners, and we were admonished to stay away completely from that area. No questions asked. There had been attempts by others to somehow find a way onto that floor, but we were told in no uncertain terms it was off limits. The North Koreans have a video of Otto on that floor, stealing the banner. Of course, in almost any other country, the stealing of a political banner (which, by the way, you could buy at several of the stops we made on the tour) would be a misdemeanor offense, you would pay a fine, and that would be the end of it. To any rational person, 15 years hard labor seems more than excessive, it seems ludicrous. But it is not my country, and I was expected to obey the laws of the land, which I did. If you go there looking for trouble of any kind, you can find it, that is for sure. I personally don't think that the authorities in North Korea go out of their way to find someone to arrest, but if you do something stupid--and this was stupid with a capital S--you put yourself in very serious danger. Treat the people there with respect, follow the laws, and you will have no trouble. I was even able on New Year's Eve to go from party to party, as well as the karaoke room, and sing a couple of North Korean songs in the Korean language, and got wild applause from the North Korean people. I certainly hope Otto is released sooner rather than later, and I seriously doubt he will spend his entire sentence in North Korea....few, if any, ever do. But if you decide to take the risk of doing some ridiculously idiotic thing, you just might have to pay the consequences, no matter how asinine they may seem to us.
I wondered the same thing. Lots of things aren't right about this story. It seems like the news isn't going to get the real details behind this situation.
+Tremendous Sax Agreed. No mention of who made these offers of $200,000 and/or the car. Not sure wtf's goin on there but it's definitely shady. Who pays that kinda price for a sign? I think its pretty safe to assume it's either a lie told by the accused, or a lie told TO the accused. Leaning towards the latter myself...
+Blahblah It's not about me. This about the irony of two justice systems both claiming to be more just than the other one. But I grant you that my comment might be perceived that way. No hard feelings bud.
what do you mean by another north korea you brainwashed sheep? USA has the most prisoners in the whole world. We imprison more people than china russia and north korea combined
He was an adult when this happened and he should have known better. I will save my sympathies for those who need it. You don't break the law in North Korea, while thinking that being an American citizen will excuse your behavior.
+luis laurencio you're missing the point of the report - and maybe someday you will take the time to learn more about just how bad it is in north korea...just smh
You see there, the hard laborness is one of the reasons why I'm never ever going to North Korea because we all know that its such a horrible place to go to. Anyone who where to go on a trip on North Korea must be very careful because of how bad the regime is there.
When I worked in Greenland, at the time a Danish owned country, we were always being told in safety classes and orientation classes to be VERY CAREFUL not to disobey ANY laws, period. We were warned how we would be sent to Denmark to stand trial and the US laws and rules would not apply. We were told flat out we could be lost in their penal system. And this was DENMARK!! North Korea? I'd be afraid of burping too loud. He was dumb and young and is paying the price. Yes we should be trying to get him out, for sure, but what a stupid thing to do. I'm sure he feels the same way.
Exactly, although they were very tough on the Inuits but feared Americans so we became the protectors of these native people. This was 40 years ago so it might have been different back then but for instance, getting caught peeing in the snow or swinging the hanging lights in the mess hall or passing out drunk outside would get you a plane ride and jail time in Denmark.
+Dennis Kinch Well, thats not too bad tho. Public urination, and passing out drunk outside will surely give you a night in a cell even in the US? And the Scandinavian justice system is a fair not harsh system, so being judged under those laws will certainly be much better then the US laws..? And nobody get lost in our justice systems:P Most of them get it too easy :)
Why? Why go there? It's not a fun tourist destination. Why rip that poster of the wall? I don't care how drunk he was. This is not normal behaviour. Now, what happened to him, in the end, was horrible and he didn't deserve it, but can we please expect some common sense?! When I travel to a Muslim country, I don't steal from a mosque. When I'm in a Christian country, I don't steal from a church. When in North Korea, don't steal official posters. It's not that difficult.
they drugged him up to get some more info, as in NK is believed every western citizen is CIA spy. Its a country of idiots that leave one fat guy tell em how to properly breathe.
If he and his family was in a bad financial state, what the hell was he doing spending money on a trip that far from home? It sounds like he had plenty of money to me. Nobody at TYT noted the discrepancy there.
+Nemo NoOne He would get a car that he could sell for 10000 dollars when going back, you can have debts and then pay the debts off with the money he would get from the sold car. That's why he did it, the trip doesn't even cost near 10000 dollars.
+Nemo NoOne I have been waiting to hear this question asked (and answered) by the "media" since it broke. But the rest of the drama overshadows what really should be asked. Bravo!!!
You do know that Chinese would support them? And Russia most likely would do that as well? That'd also mean invading a, fucked up, true, but sovereign country... Guess what UN would say about that...
***** how did you manage to get here using the propaganda filled "internet" that North Korea has??? Lol listen look up the us military budget compared to North Korea. 😂
***** That's an option, but when talking about North Korea specifically, many of their laws are extreme and arbitrary, so logic and respect may not always keep you from breaking their laws. So the best answer is still just don't go to North Korea. It's not like Japan where their culture is different, but still logical.
I hope he gets set free. That is equivalent to torture for such a petty crime. I think a proportionate penalty would have been a modest fine and to be banned from entering N. Korea again, and maybe have his traveling visa suspended here in U.S.A for a period of time. 15 years hard labor is unethical and amounts to torture. He made a dumb decision but we are all human and can screw up and laws should be just and proportionate to crimes. I feel bad for him and he has my sympathy and it would be wrong and very sad if he really serves that sentence.
no he was warned and probably had to sign a contract before entering stating that the u.s. was not responsible for his safe return, he was trying to make cash for committing a crime. Its entirely justified, if you don't like the laws don't go there
james kim Absolutely. 15 years for stealing a poster? That is not justice that is draconian and sadistic. Imagine if it was you or a loved one sent to hard labor for 15 years for stealing a poster. Ever done anything dumb when you were young? I know I have and I'm sure most people have. Regardless, laws should be just and fair if they are not they should not be tolerated and people should protest against them. He should not have done what he did but by far his penalty is the worse crime and people should be outraged by such unethical standards. Now this human being has to be in a hell for 15 years of his life doing hard labor. He could even die. Why? for a small victimless crime. I think there is something wrong not to feel bad for him.
ausraider You do not think there are any ethical Americans?Don't you think that is a generalization of a diverse people? I really do not see why it would matter what country a person is from as their nationality or the actions of their country does not necessarily reflect the ethics of the individual.
+corey wiley you're taking about the countries population that elected a person that whom invaded an innocent country and slaughtered hundreds of thousands of civilians, also a country that has a huge percentage that doesn't think a women should be able to choose what she does with her body and a country that has more people in jail than any other country in the world yet keeps on imprisoning people at the same rate and a country that has constant mass shootings but don't at all slow the rate of gun ownership. I'll stop now because there's only so many characters UA-cam lets you reply to a comment.
ausraider Yes and there are a lot of Americans who are against all the things you mentioned. So you are saying all those voices are null and void because they happen to live here or be born here?
There's a difference between mistakes and decisions. He's old enough to know the consequences of stealing anything and for him to steal a banner was a choice, not a mistake.
No we're not. We're not going to come and try to rescue you. Let him stay there and do hard labor for the next 15 years! Let him be a lesson to other snot-nosed, entitled idiots that if you get in trouble in places that you're not supposed to be in, Uncle Sammy is not going to come bail you out!!!
+ptrinch If you come to visit, you'll be bored to tears We haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years But we ain't really quaint, so please don't point and stare We're just technologically impaired There's no phone, no lights, no motorcar Not a single luxury Like Robinson Crusoe It's as primitive as can be
What astonishes me about this discussion is how all three of you are naive enough to actually believe even one word of this preposterous story. I saw that closed circuit TV video that allegedly depicts "proof" the boy "stole" the banner. My opinion is, the kid didn't do any of the things he "confessed" to. #1) that shadowy figure taking the banner down is so dark & indistinct it could be virtually anyone. #2) the manner in which that unidentifiable shadowy figure moves is slow, deliberate and very strangely unnatural, in a way that certainly appears directed by someone off-camera, #3) in the bizarre "confession" at the so-called "press conference," he claimed his "severe crimes" were done on the "connivance" of the United Methodist Church who needed a "trophy" from North Korea to hang in the office, and that they'd pay his mother thousands of dollars in compensation if he were caught; and The Z Society who demanded "proof" he was "brave" in order to allow him to join and make him very wealthy; and the United States Administration via the CIA, who "regularly" pressure United States Citizens to enter North Korea in order to "commit crimes," because they want to severely hurt the deep love that the N. Korean people have for their system. All three of these claims are obviously false and plainly ridiculous. #4) and even within the "confession," he stated the banner WASN'T stolen! It was merely taken off the wall and laid on the floor...which is then characterized as a "VERY SEVERE"crime, worthy of 15 years hard labor, at which point he thanked them for their kindness and generosity. - Now, I'll tell you what I suspect really happened. #1) North Korea's irate that Pres. Obama just placed additional sanctions on them in response to their nuclear bomb tests. #2) they saw they happened to have a visiting American kid in that hotel. #3) they directed someone, probably through threats, to remove the banner from the wall and put it on the floor; (whether that shadowy figure was really IS that same kid or not is irrelevant ,because we can't even SEE who it was.) #4) they then arrested the kid, and tortured him mercilessly, which explains why he was walking so feebly in that video, and they then forced him to make those claims as propaganda for the television. #5 ) and the reason they did all this, is to use him as a valuable pawn...a bargaining chip... in future negotiations with the US Govt, towards lifting some of these sanctions. In short, the kid didn't "plot" with anyone, least of all the CIA, to remove a banner. That any of you would believe even the slightest detail that comes out of a N. Korean kangaroo court that has NO credibility whatsoever, disappoints me. There's no independent or substantiated evidence this kid did ANYTHING. What possible reason could you have you to trust North Korea's blatant propaganda as if it were honest, accurate, and truthful???
Every country in the world goes on and on how their country is so much better and the people are so much wiser and friendlier. But this is the lies we tell ourselves to feel better. The truth is the world as a whole is a huge mess ready to explode killing every living thing on the planet. As a person from the United States I will say this, how many people in the United States prisons and jails are servicing 10, 15, 30, Life sentences for first time offences of non-violent crimes? All you need to do is take a day, sit in a courtroom and hear the verdicts. All you need to do is go visit the hundreds of overcrowded jails and prisons across the country to see and hear the stories. The justice system here is no better by any means. Un-justice is everywhere and as a people we allow it. If we want change than we as a whole have to make that change. Laws have to change and we need to put people in places that will hear the changes we want to happen. So before we go pointing fingers we need to clean up our act and get things straight.
And here kids in this comment section we can see a lot of people finally having the opportunity to do the white bashing they really wanted to do, a wrong doesn't justify another wrong, but oh well
No. I will continue to open the video, immediately pause it, type my protest and then close the tab. UA-cam's analytics are smart enough not to record that as a view. The last thing I want to do is add to the view count on a Hannah video.
I completely support every video (discounting Hannah videos) they make, agree with everything they say politically. I just cannot stand Hannah. If I hear her voice for more than a few seconds I start to feel sick. All I ask is that they get rid of her so I can watch TYT in peace.
Free Information Thats crazy,I think Americans should not be allowed to North Korea unless they are Asians themselves because they would most likely get arrested and America would have to negotiate but they probably wont
Ok US at war with north korea, what if he disrespect the law in Saudi Arabia, Qatar...etc he could end up without head... Americans should be more educated about cultures they travel to..
Nah for stealing "super expensive / priceless item " we chop their hand off. but if its not valuable that much like a poster or something,a fine shall do.
Feel bad for that kid but yah going to N.K. is stupid never mind getting drunk and committing a crime. Very stupid on this kids part but hopefully he gets some help.
1) Why would you go to North Korea? 2) Why would you steal in North Korea? 3) Why would a 'pastor' entice you to steal? 5) He should've asked to buy or if he could have the poster. 4) I feel sorta bad that he gets 15 years of hard labor, because I've heard/watched many things about labor camps. 5) When we get him back, he should still get a sentence.
When you go to North Korea, you agree that you have to follow their laws and respect their culture. But when when people immigrate to the US or Europe, not doing any of that is vehemently defended. Gotcha.
There's an American youth in Utah doing 50 years + for selling weed. We can't forget that there are unduly harsh sentences right here in the US. I'm not excusing North Korea, but we shouldn't forget that our own criminal justice system needs reformation too.
amen
first, i call bullshit on the 50+ years and second, are you seriously comparing getting a poster to selling an illegal drug?
+luis laurencno I'm comparing two unjust sentences.

Live Oak damn, well after all trump is winning the republican vote so am not surprused something like that could happen here
+luis laurencio an illegal drug? you make it sound like it's so horrible. it's a freaking plant. it shouldn't be illegal in the first place. alcohol is more dangerous.
First mistake - go to NK.
Second mistake - get drunk in NK.
Thrid mistake - get drunk and try to steal in NK
RIP dude
Nah drunk is not a big deal in NK believe me. They dont have tough drug laws in north korea. They trade with Opium, weed and crystal meth there and the police doenst care about it.
I don't think the consumption itself is the issue. it's being intoxicated leading you to make stupid actions .
yes but getting drunk get's you in other kind of trouble. in greece i was to close to getting in a cell for what happened after i got 180ml of alcohol in my blood. but i escaped from the cops, can you do that in NK?

No matter how strict the law is in a country you should know the laws of the country before you go there
And follow them
You do realize that the rules of the country are inhumane to even the north koreans themselves, right?
+Jami Christine yes I do bit you if you do not want to get in TROUBLE WHILE VISITING A COUNTRY DONT BREAK THEM AND THEN LEAVE
Yeah, but like I said, NK has horrible punishments. Such as hard labor for years. Yeah, I'm not feeling that sorry for NK at this point. It's a poster. Not like he stole from a bank. Sorry, don't see where NK is in the right other than getting him caught

The real surprise for him will be when his 15 years are up and he will be rearrested for overstaying his visa by 15 years
+Tom K Assuming he survives that long.
+Corvo Attano He won't, that diet will is lethal to most human beings. Now if the government is going to bail him out or not is another question.
muramesa21 he's actually dead now search it up lol
He should've told them it was just a prank bro, and point to the camera right there.

It must have actually be westboro.

+Minet Mann Lol. I apologize for my tone. One could infer I was offended at your damnation of an entire state. It was actually your grammar that pissed me off. 😀

The second is committing a crime in the most draconic police state in the world. They KILL (outright or by slave labor in the north) their own citizens for that crime. I am having a hard time getting emotional about it when his own voluntary actions placed him in his predicament.
Why don't the US do an exchange and give them the young turks for the guy?
Darius Loera and then trade me for you? Great idea mate.
hahahahahahah hilarious
What about we volunteer you?
what about donald trump?
They need Hillary too
The punishment the guy got is way out of proportion, and this is an extremely tragic story.
true but get use 2 it why vacation there!!! ?? air head. ' u r lucky ur head is on ur neck, TOUGH LOVE MAN!!'
whether you like it or not, if you visit a country as a tourist you have to respect their laws. waving your white card or American card is like waving a bag of shit. it means nothing and you have yourselves to blame if you do something as stupid as this guy
+Trung Do you're making this way too complicated. He stole. No matter what country he's in its always a law about it(I assume). He didn't think he was gonna get away with it cause he's American he just didn't think he was gonna get caught.
+Trung Do I'm not defending his actions I'm just saying his fault is stealing not being American
PTNgaming and did you not see me type the term " white card"? Guess not
It is not a mistake to purposely steal now a mistake is putting salt on your frosted flakes instead of milk.
Hahahaha
Umm? That sounds delicious
+Evan Nicholson LMAO!!!!.....LOL.....
NK has rules/punishments that are inhumane to any human being. Regardless of what has been done, but I agree with you
Yes I agree with you on that as well. I am so happy to live in the United States. In which I fought for many times.
so they offered him a car if he stole something and if he didn't come back his mother would get $200,000 this guy has no commonsense
Don't mess with the KIM JONG UN bruh.
He got his privilege checked...and yes I smiled a little when I saw him crying in court.
are you jokeing
+Crashandburn999 bad bait
+Eric B i applauded now he knows how it feels
+Crashandburn999 The sentencing is just a formality, take solace in the fact that he will not live that long
+thorin dyer Trump should fly over in his jet and bring him home !
$200'000 doesn't seem like much of a prize for 15 years in a North Korean prison.
They should have put you in.
Yeah I agree with you dude these people are cowards!
Bark9 Nope
50 years for stealing? Yeah right lol
an aboriginal man northern territory australia was sentenced for life for stealing biscuits under the three strikes rule they had,in all aussie papers at that time.so 15yrs for being an idiot is light,at least the aboriginal man was just trying to feed himself,no excuse for him and his mates and "yeah dude grab a flag or something for me ,that would be so cool" or so i recon the pre holiday conversation went.
The punishment doesn't match the crime. 15 years for stealing a sign, is too much. Obviously it is a war prisoner..
He is now
+Novelica lool wym north korea was part of chine then they got independent from them
+Novelica your right. technically the u.s is still at war with North Korea. It a 50 year seize fire.
Eric Castro no, at best you can say the whole korea was an affiliated country to China but not part of it.
Its not that much, because they will let him go after lately 5 years, believe me ;)
A person walks into a hornets nest and doesn't understand why they got stung...
if his family is in such financial trouble, how can they afford college and trips?
The question is WHEN did it happen?
His church paid him to do it... I could imagine an islamic extremist doing something similar
He's 21, wow he looks really old. like even 40.
Koanizm he looks 75 soon
***** Aged? Maybe he just has those genes. Not everyone can look young.
If his family is in severe financial trouble, then why is he spending potentially thousands of dollars to go on vacation?
+Kristen Degener I was thinking that myself!!!
Don't steal. Simple.
Mr. Waybesón there’s NO PROOF HE DID IT
North korea dont even like us.😂Why would go there?
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I would be scare to fart... I might get 3 years of extreme labor with 1 bowl of rice a week and some pot grease for flavor
Why is he in that country in the first place?
John Devine
Yeah I watched the video.... but.... Why would do such a thing?
+ArcticSlicer
why do people travel to countries where they treat people like shit? Saudi Arabia? Mexico where kidnapping foreign tourists by the cartel and local gang is rampant?
Simple, because of a thrill.
+MyLostTemple you have a grossly simplistic view of Mexico
+MyLostTemple it's bad in Mexico, but not that bad. I know people that go multiple times a year and they are yet to be kidnapped
elias arriaga
Mexico isn't that bad at all.
Too much talking. I clicked the video to watch him getting busted..
yarp
then that's your mistake fool
You are always three times more of a fool than what you call me :-)
Love having Francis on the second hour. More, please!
Agree!
He's in a financial problem and yet he has the money to go to North Korea?
I wondered the same thing. Lots of things aren't right about this story. It seems like the news isn't going to get the real details behind this situation.
+Tremendous Sax Agreed. No mention of who made these offers of $200,000 and/or the car. Not sure wtf's goin on there but it's definitely shady. Who pays that kinda price for a sign? I think its pretty safe to assume it's either a lie told by the accused, or a lie told TO the accused. Leaning towards the latter myself...
I want to see pics of him working in that camp
+Lar M Use correct grammar.
2ossy you don't want that, believe me.
Learn to use grammar.
Kevin de Maar How slow?
2ossy your choice
I guess his white privilege didn't work this time.
no offense.
He needed Yellow Privilege.
+Nietzsche's Moustache wouldn't have even helped in North Korea
sadly...
+Jerry X Lol if you're saying that white privilege doesn't exist, troll harder. Learn more about oppression while you're at it.
+Blahblah It's not about me. This about the irony of two justice systems both claiming to be more just than the other one. But I grant you that my comment might be perceived that way. No hard feelings bud.
He thought white privilege was worldwide
+Allen David Jr
hahaha
what is this white privilege? I wish I could have some.
+Connor Toomey NOOOOO!!!!
+Allen David Jr
I'm sure that to people like you, all things are a matter of Black and White.. Yeah, pun intended. *eyeroll
+Connor Toomey I agree, where is this privilege?
thief is a thief. we should have law like that in America there would be less criminals!
hlob dub amid?
godless 789 I concur with your comment
And we would also have a tyrannical government who overreacted to petty crimes, effectively creating another North Korea.
what do you mean by another north korea you brainwashed sheep?
USA has the most prisoners in the whole world. We imprison more people than china russia and north korea combined
He was an adult when this happened and he should have known better.
I will save my sympathies for those who need it.
You don't break the law in North Korea, while thinking that being an American citizen will excuse your behavior.
And the Darwin Award goes to.....
why the hell he even go there?
trinhkets went*
just to make stupid things and provoke the people and now he got what he deserved.
drunk in North Korea? that right there tells me he lost his dam mind.
nobody knows if what north Korea said is true
luis laurencio that is true, i let that slip passed me
+luis laurencio you're missing the point of the report - and maybe someday you will take the time to learn more about just how bad it is in north korea...just smh
***** what? Did you even read what i said
***** he's saying that NK could've lied to support their claims and actions.
You see there, the hard laborness is one of the reasons why I'm never ever going to North Korea because we all know that its such a horrible place to go to. Anyone who where to go on a trip on North Korea must be very careful because of how bad the regime is there.
I bet the next "news story" will be "Man in active volcano encounters heat."
It boggles the mind why anyone would visit that place!!!!
I don't think Denmark or Greenland has a super tough justice system???
Yes, true but the point was, we NEVER did it. If I went to Russia, China or anywhere in the Middle East I wouldn't cough too loud. Get it?
It's not that difficult.
the way he was walking looks like he is disoriented in some way.
they drugged him up to get some more info, as in NK is believed every western citizen is CIA spy. Its a country of idiots that leave one fat guy tell em how to properly breathe.
If he and his family was in a bad financial state, what the hell was he doing spending money on a trip that far from home? It sounds like he had plenty of money to me. Nobody at TYT noted the discrepancy there.
If he was in deep financial problems, where did he get the money from to travel to North Korea in the first place?
+Nemo NoOne He would get a car that he could sell for 10000 dollars when going back, you can have debts and then pay the debts off with the money he would get from the sold car. That's why he did it, the trip doesn't even cost near 10000 dollars.
***** How much does the trip costs?
Nemo NoOne I would think about 2000 dollars, plus minus.
***** Plus expenditures.
+Nemo NoOne I have been waiting to hear this question asked (and answered) by the "media" since it broke. But the rest of the drama overshadows what really should be asked. Bravo!!!
America must fight and rescue him
Aaaand we'll probably start another world war
+Jami Christine North Korea is a joke lmao they would lose so quick...
Trvp Game I wouldn't take them for granted
You do know that Chinese would support them? And Russia most likely would do that as well? That'd also mean invading a, fucked up, true, but sovereign country... Guess what UN would say about that...
***** how did you manage to get here using the propaganda filled "internet" that North Korea has??? Lol listen look up the us military budget compared to North Korea. 😂
Oh great, So now we have to get the 1997 Chicago bulls champions to negotiate.
This comment section is making me lose all faith in humans. People are defending North Korea.
+CONELRAD no, people are NOT condoning stupidity
+CONELRAD ..It's called trolling. People just try to find a weak spot to get reactions out of other people.
Don't worry! Trump will go to North Korea himself and bring back this young boy in his Trump plane.
Right after they pull him out of the Trump labor camp.
+Angel Santiago and then he'll make them build another wall and have them pay for it.
It wasn't a "mistake"; it was a deliberate act. And being sympathetic because someone reminds you of your sister? Girl, bye.
Also, 21 is NOT a kid, it's an adult.
+Owen Fitzgerald It is these days. People are maturing much more slowly than they used to.
+Owen Fitzgerald Mentally it isn't, 25 is said to be the age when the brain fully matures.
21 is legally an adult.
I saw him on some dudes volg
Vlog**
LMAO This guy isn't Lane
yup me too
+Priyam Singh it's not Lain!!!!
don't say you saw me on Louis's vlogs, it wasn't Lane
that guy wanted to take the sign so he could post selfies with it on social media for 15 minutes of fame.
BoopsyCreations exactly
Corn and salt?
+Mounted Czarina Don't get defensive or they'll take away the salt.
+Mounted Czarina corn and salt tastes amazing honestly but you arent going to get even close to the amount of nutritional value
+Shaffan Din Especially for 15 years!
The salt is for your wounds.
RiJMC17 yea thats crazy... honestly dont see him surviving more than a few months
I feel sorry for him and hope he will get a pardon.
+jaya tissa If he stole something here, would he get off?
I feel the same. The punishment does not fit the crime.
Here's an idea... don't go to North Korea!
***** That's an option, but when talking about North Korea specifically, many of their laws are extreme and arbitrary, so logic and respect may not always keep you from breaking their laws. So the best answer is still just don't go to North Korea. It's not like Japan where their culture is different, but still logical.
He should have said "I'ts just a prank bro!"
I hear Syria is quite nice this time of year. Russians say its a blast :)
+Ruben Ba-dum-tshh!
America has it's flaws, but North Korea makes those flaws invisible by comparison.
Well shit, we're going to have to invade to take him back.
15 years in prison for stealing a poster, 0 years in prison for possessing marijuana, logic
I heard Donald Trump will bail him out for a small loan of a million dollars.
How hard is it to NOT travel to North Korea?
Here's a better idea... Go visit the Amish.
+ptrinch lol
+ptrinch If you come to visit, you'll be bored to tears
We haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years
But we ain't really quaint, so please don't point and stare
We're just technologically impaired
There's no phone, no lights, no motorcar
Not a single luxury
Like Robinson Crusoe
It's as primitive as can be
What astonishes me about this discussion is how all three of you are naive enough to actually believe even one word of this preposterous story.
That's the reason why you should go to Seoul or Tokyo and drink all night long, instead of going to salute so called 'beloved' leader.
And here kids in this comment section we can see a lot of people finally having the opportunity to do the white bashing they really wanted to do, a wrong doesn't justify another wrong, but oh well
A picnic for the butthurt and brainwashed lol.
I refuse to watch any video with Hannah in it.
But I like Francis so much!
+AnotherSignIn Does that mean I don't have to see your comments under them any more?
No. I will continue to open the video, immediately pause it, type my protest and then close the tab. UA-cam's analytics are smart enough not to record that as a view. The last thing I want to do is add to the view count on a Hannah video.
Oh well, it will still probably fade into the sea of other pointless trash typed out under their videos.
I completely support every video (discounting Hannah videos) they make, agree with everything they say politically. I just cannot stand Hannah. If I hear her voice for more than a few seconds I start to feel sick.
All I ask is that they get rid of her so I can watch TYT in peace.
Yea, well, the USA bans tourism in North Korea for reasons like this. He defied the ban, plus broke North Korea's laws. Deal with the consequences.
Open this video and see Hannah.... ugh she's so bad at this
You can tell ottos's speech was forced. The language was hilarious.."I used my best shoes for sneaking". That is old school, ESL stuff..poor kid.
Now the US have to deal with them. Have they done that?
What..?
Free Information Thats crazy,I think Americans should not be allowed to North Korea unless they are Asians themselves because they would most likely get arrested and America would have to negotiate but they probably wont
21 years old and still acting like a child,
when i was 10 years old, i knew whats wrong and whats right, and i knew the law back then
Ok US at war with north korea, what if he disrespect the law in Saudi Arabia, Qatar...etc he could end up without head... Americans should be more educated about cultures they travel to..
Nah for stealing "super expensive / priceless item " we chop their hand off. but if its not valuable that much like a poster or something,a fine shall do.
One of the very few times I can agree with Cenk
Zach Burke same
Zach Burke I love how I am seeing you comment on every single North Korean video, lol. And I always agree with you!!
send dennis rodman to go get him!
Would've been a bad ass memento though like "This shit's worth 15 years of hard labor, bruh!"
Feel bad for that kid but yah going to N.K. is stupid never mind getting drunk and committing a crime. Very stupid on this kids part but hopefully he gets some help.
*hit blunt* what if he was some sort of a spy
Iqbal Julian gtfo
The moment u realised your white privilege card gets rejected outside the USA. Bwahahaha hopes he riots in jail.
Racist much?
+Nanomaly stupid much?
+Accragirl Simon Wow great comback 10/10 I'm so offended
+Neil M little dick
Waup thank you many people don't realize white privilege is total bullshit
So the guy went to North Korea and thought he could get away with stealing...I feel bad for the guy...but WOW
"For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Bust our ass to get him out?! Why don't you pay for it then?!?
Corn and Salt for 15 years with 15 hour work days in horrible conditions sounds like a great story. At least his family gets $ 200,000
