Disclaimer: A lot of theories and opinions are used in determining details because of how mysterious this album is. Use your own thoughts to form what you believe based on what I present, not everything is a fact. This video also covers very depressing topics in Eminem’s life, I am in no way advocating that this album should have been released instead of Eminem getting clean and going to rehab, everything worked out for the better.
UPDATE: Here are some amendments to the video, and also, this is getting a bit outdated. We have lots of new info and 3 new leaks since mid 2019. I will make an updated version sometime in the future.
*(ONE)* According to this article the song Keys to the City was going to be the lead single for King Mathers but because DJ Premiere leaked the info about it, Em cancelled that single and probably came up with a new single web.archive.org/web/20080701110532/www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.6534/title.new-eminem-produced-by-dj-premier
Here is a summary/timeline:
2007 -Em is working on album by himself
2007 -December: Em overdoses and temporary takes a break from any work
2008 -January/Febuary Eminem slowly starts working on it again and gets it ready for release. Part of getting it ready for release is planning singles. He plans the single Keys to the City but in March this info is leaked, so he decides to not use it as a single.
2008 -March/April Eminem realizes how far into addiction he is and needs to get better. He puts on hold all music and goes to rehab. When he comes back he moves onto Relapse and King Mathers is gone.
Nothing I said in the video was wrong, I was just missing some key details on Keys To the City. We were REALLY close to getting a mid 2008 release of this album, but instead Em decided to go rehab. *My creation* of King Mathers aims to capture the mid 2007 style/late 2006 style, in an alternate reality where he finishes the album then and quits much closer to Proof's death. It is similar to Relapse 2, how there are various stages. There is undoubtedly another reality where Eminem releases the album in mid 2008 with the single produced by DJ Premiere, instead of a different single/using the original Eminem-produced version of Keys to the City
*(TWO)* I mis-spoke at around 10 minutes. I meant to say that Give Me The Ball samples I Get Money. At around 1:10 in Give Me The Ball the I Get Money sample starts playing. Basically, that's my subtle evidence for Give Me The Ball being 2007. As for Ballin' Uncontrollably, the lyrics/content/style matches Touchdown so that is again my very frail evidence for it being 2007.. Both songs are either 07 or 08, but I'm leaning towards 07, is what I'm trying to say.
*(THREE)* I forgot to mention Beautiful. This song was mostly written in his 2005 rehab, and when he left rehab/relapsed back onto drugs (still 2005) he finished the song. That means he had a finished/semi finished song (with at least all the verses wrote) in 2005. The sample is ALSO from a song from 2005, which means he probably produced it then too. Idk about the hook, but we can assume 2005 too. This song would have been on King Mathers if he felt comfortable releasing it.

*(FOUR)* A lot of info has come out after 3 new leaks (Cut back, hip hop, and Everything)
The ongoing theory is that all these leaks (the new ones and the ones mentioned in the vid) were meant for a street mixtape to put out while he figured out if could make a studio album or not ("Figure out when im ready to drop, or not"). This is where he quits. At the end of the mixtape, there is a surprise ending (Its been real) where he announces hes quitting. Everything else in the video is accurate and it's very blurry between a mixtape vs final album. Maybe there were going to be both, maybe only one, but these new leaks are 100% mixtape songs (short length, he mentions dropping his album in the future implying it is not out yet/ready yet)

The "King Mathers" title also makes sense when you take the line "Why be a King when you could be a God" from "Rap God" into consideration as an allusion to that era being long gone.
Man these em years are the most interesting, mysterious and dark ones. They are the ones I most create opinions and it just brings me a very weird feeling by listening to. Crazy. And I was always trying to find someone that would be exactly the type of fan I am and I just think I found lots of it rn.

Yeah, me too, I always create these fan fictional theories behind this dark depressing side of Em that was buried from the public. He went thru a lot of shit during that period and started binge eating due to the drugs that’s why they knew him so much it was very depressing.

Theory: My Darling wasn't for King Mathers but was instead the song that gave him the idea for relapse, explains why his voice is semi similar to King Mathers but has more Relapse themes

We know the reason why this album never came(overdosing, not wanting to remember that period) but maybe a contribiting factor is he didn't wanna retire after treatment cause if he released KM after rehab, it'd basically be him saying goodbye when at that point, he wanted to stay in the game and there's 50 Ways then there's presumably the my darling demo. He probably listened to every song he made between 06 and 07 after getting out and hated em but fucked with my darling and 50 Ways(wish 50 Ways made relapse) and so maybe he got inspired to bring shady back but as a grizzled serial killer so boom, relapse is birthed.
Also “Beautiful” & “Careful What You Wish For” were also on “Relapse” and also made from 2007

Because nothing came of it I thought it was people just speculating and making things up because they wanted a new Eminem album, but the fact there’s quite a bit of evidence to support an album being made during his hiatus is really cool to hear. If you listen to Castle and Arose from Revival, he writes a letter to Hailie (sorry if spelt wrong) in 2007 which is when he made King Mathers. He wrote “I’ll put out this last album then I’m done with it” and King Mathers was supposed to be his last album. Crazy to think that he still remembers King Mathers to this day...

Yes, you're right. The first verse 100% has 2007 *content/sound*, and verse two and three only have 100% 2007 SOUND *but not content*. I think it was made in 08 before he fully committed to Relapse style, he was in a transitional period.

Shady 123 No, it’s similar, but at the same time very very different. Underground is a lot of shouting and Elevator same thing. Both were made in 2008-09 in his Relapse sessions. They sound slightly similar because literally a year ago he was doing king mathers type songs. sorta like how MMLP is similar to devils night or TES and some songs on Encore sound slightly similar (we as americans)

Just listen to Castle from Revival, he literally sounds identical to Encore / Toy soldier Eminem other than the newer microphone.

I’m pretty sure I heard that the first verse on My Darling is from 06/07 and the song was never finished then the second and third verse were recorded around the relapse era to finish the song
Agreed for me I would think that too cuz he brings up paul wall and bubba in my darling but also on G.O.A.T seems he had the same content so maybe relapse deluxe songs were the only two songs he decided to use from king mathers.

Even before I Get Money was confirmed to be on King Mathers by the leaks of Everything, Cut Back and Hip Hop. When I watched this video I knew from the start that I Get Money was EXTREMELY likely to have been on the King Mathers mixtape, since Eminem says he hasn't fallen off and he's coming back with his final album that was meant to release in 2007 before his OD, after his OD but before Eminem got clean King Mathers was pushed to a mid-2008 release before Eminem decided to go into rehab and King Mathers was cancelled in favour of Relapse. That's just in my thoughts, but many people can decide if it's true and many will agree with this statement. I also think that the King Mathers mixtape was an scrapped and unfinished album that was never fully completed

In terms of my best guesses for the recording timeline:
Careful What You Wish For would be early 07 since it doesn't mention the news coverage Em was receiving for his deteriorating health and physical appearance which as it received coverage in news articles I have no doubt a recorded mention of it exists. You could also make the argument that 7 years would be '06 technically because he got signed in 98 but that's kind of weak evidence since most of his fans view 1999 as the year he blew up.
50 Ways was whenever in 07 he bought the car.
The Apple could even be 06 because his speech is less slurred and he's speaking aggressively. Note the Bass Brothers worked on bringing back the MMLP aggressive style in 2006.
Syllables is early 2007 because of the photos we know were taken at the studio in February.
GOAT/It's Been Real idk but the voice and wanting to quit make me say later on in this timeline.
Give Me The Ball is 2008 because of the filename and this is just a theory but the song would've been used as a hype song for the playoffs which were happening at the time.
I Get Money is 2007 because that's when the orginal song was recorded but tbh I think the reason it was made was because Em was actually going to feature on the track at one point. So Em recorded his verse separately and sent it to Fif before the song was done and it wasn't included. It would also be probably included on both albums like how Crack a Bottle was initially going to be on Before I Self Destruct.
Ballin Uncontrollably is late 2007/08. Superbad came out in October 2007 which the outro is just chipmunk versions of scenes from the film. Em also said that he watched the movie religiously while getting clean so it could be 2008.
Difficult is 2006 or 2007. It's hard to pinpoint because he sounds very depressed (2007) but that could also be because it was recorded just after he died (2006).
Everything (Which because it leaked around the same time I believe is somehow connected to Cut Back and Hip Hop) was likely late 2007. It doesn't directly say it which is why it's uncertain but he tells T.I. he's going to be alright which I assume is a reference to his gun charge in October 07.
Basically agreed but Em bought Kim the car in 06 and Em made 50 Ways after she bashed him on live television in early 2007.
I wish he would release old songs and just call it shady from the vault or something along those lines.

There was a leak of Crack a Bottle, that i heard BEFORE the album came out. On the leaked version, Em rapped all three verses: his, Dre's and 50's, in their styles, like a filler.. Have you heard this? Does it still exist?

Cashis confirmed on IG he remembers recording his verse in Dec 2007, whereas based on Itseratime's research and the lyrics he believes they had the session in feb 2007 (forgot the reasons). but regardless, the song is 07
in sepetember 2008 eminem was already recording relapse. His relapse sessions began in july/august, so unless you think syllables was recorded at the same time as Crack a bottle or 3am

DeeCee We As Americans was released on the deluxe edition of Encore, so I dont believe that would be released on King Mathers, but there is a possibility that Public Enemy #1 was on it
We as Americans, Ricky ticky tock, and love you more we’re all supposed to be on the original version of Encore. But they all got leaked. So he released them as bonus tracks, and then recorded My First Single, Rain Man, and Big Weenie. Which is why the album got such a bad rap, was because he recorded these 3 songs in like a couple days just to fill the album… and they’re not the best

I was thinking man. If em gets a „Real“ Biopic and it’s showing everything from infinite to relapse it has to start with his hiatus. Just think about it for a sec. Em records some tracks and he is stressed out. He works on king mathers but can’t find new ideas. And then he overdoses and collapses down. And then the Titel is revealed. This would be a great intro. And the movie is a flashback of his life. The flashback starts with him overdosing in 1996 when infinite flopped.
Remember tho, he didn't overdose in 1996 he just swallowed a bunch of pills and threw them up right away bc it made him sick, so he wasnt able to digest the pills. Luckily. Because if he didnt throw them up he probably wouldve died

Yes, December 25 2007, which was like 6 days ago from 2008. So basically 95% of the year he was doing drugs and making music, which is when he was planning King Mathers

"50 ways" is very interesting, but the album is not the best of Eminem. I'm glad you decided to put this project aside. The interesting thing about this album is how scratchy and exhausted Em's voice sounds in some songs.

In that alternate universe, he didn't survive that overdose and we got this album instead. I'd say that's a solid career. But also what every rapper did. Died before their prime. I'm glad he got clean and improved himself. I probably would have given up on hip hop. And I'm sure most people would have too. It would be a cursed genre where artists don't live long. Eminem picked himself up and inspired future generations. He must have looked in the mirror and had that realization. Without Eminem, Dre would have released his final album too and bow out of the industry. Dre would still be alive and probably would have revived his own career, but with less impact. But this timeline is better because Eminem made him a billionaire. That other timeline is really dark, but the world would have adjusted.

I’m a huge Kanye fan and he’s a bit more public with his life so there’s tons of videos on his unreleased/“lost” albums and leaks and I always wished there was videos with that high quality content about this album. And this was very well put together thanks for this. It’s crazy how he literally disappeared in 2007-8. Like rarely any features or even media appearances. 2015-17 was also a very inactive era. I remember waiting for news back then. Even if he’s trash now I’m grateful he’s very active now
From the bits I've heard, King Mathers would have been an undisputed 4th classic. While I'm glad we got all the songs and albums after it, Em would have had an untouchable discography if he'd released it and retired.

King Mathers has shit songs. If encore was made a year shortly after "The Eminem Show". then it would have been good. It would have been up with MMLP, The Eminem Show, MTBMB, SSLP. I am so happy king mathers never got released, the songs and the beats in the songs in king mathers don't sound great except for "Everything" and "Difficult ft. Obie Trice".

What he means is those 4 albums worth of material are not substantial or meaningful. Anyone can write a silly or random song, but does that mean its good? Good lyrics? good sound? key example: Balling uncontrollably. Writers block does not necessarily mean you cant write songs at all, it can mean you cant write a song good enough or a song that suits what your vision.

@@hafizurmahdi5284 With 2008 King Mathers I meant that, if he uses 50 Ways, Difficult, Hip Hop Shop, Everything, Syllables, G.O.A.T. and the other leaks it would be weird, King Mathers was (probably) finished, but it wasn't released because Eminem changed his mind on retiring, now in 2021, the beef with Mariah Carey ended in 2009 with The Warning, Never Gave a Fuck (Less) and the skit before that song would be just nonesense, he already did You're Never Over for Proof and in his own words, Eminem said Difficult was just depressing, 50 Ways, he apologised to Kim on Bad Husband, The Apple and It's Been Real shouldn't have disses to his mom due to the apologies in Headlights, I Get Money had some jabs to Kanye, he said on Recovery he was ashmed for almost dissing Kanye so I guess he was talking about that song, Syllables is a diss to the music back in 2007, all I need to say is "Kamikaze" so if he does something like King Mathers it should be like Recovery or something similar to that style

@@JohnBanana it is shot so he extends his neck so it looks leaner and also his gut is hidden by darkness and the pose not to mention that they most likely used photoshop on top of it as they ofcourse do for these kinda photoshoots. They really worked hard to make him as slim as they could even without excsessive photoshop tho. Could be that he was still gaining weight too but the peak of it pictures make him look noticebly differend. He said he started to only eat junk food after Proof's death because of depression and started to realise how heavy he was getting when in McDonalds some dude was to his friend hey is that Eminem and the friend said naah he is way too fat and Em said to it what the fuck and somewhat soon after that actually confronted the situation because it was starting to get so humiliating for him and make his depression worse. Dude would order from drive thru and eat alone in his car because of other people. And that was only the food problem, the drug problem was the main issue really ofcourse.
@@aleksisuuronen5969 yep exactly, he did a whole Shady LTD photoshoot in 2007, so my best guess is they pressured him to get into shape as best he could, but he definitely wasn't able to look as good as he did like in 2002, so they made sure to get really good angles/lighthing/use photoshop so he looked more normal

No. King mathers is trash and lifeless and sounds so passionless. Atleast revival and recovery had passion and had life to it even even tho recovery and revival were ass because of the beats and corny bars and bad choppy stop to go stiff tight flows.

I saw a guy on Reddit who was claiming this was gonna be a mixtape Emcwas releasing. I always thought it was gonna be a studio album.
Edit: If “My Darling” wasn’t recorded in 2007 im not sure how it would be recorded in 2008 since everything in 08 Em did was for relapse presumably. Unless he did it right before or after he got sober but I thought he was having writers block and didn’t record anything.
That was me, this story video is pretty out dated. We are now pretty confident King Mathers was gonna be a mixtape. /r/kingmathers has all of our new findings. Eminem started Relapse in summer of 2008 so that still leaves the first half of the year
