Дякую за поширення неймовірної української музики! Дякую за підтримку💙💛
I was just thinking the same thing.
Many thanks from Dnipro city, Kurs Valute is my favorite band, please support our Module squad 🙏
We are in Canada, currently hosting a refugee from Dnipro.Stay safe
I'm fan of Kurs Valute and your tg channel🙏
love this channel so much, thanks for all your thorough work
Hazel only watches the best channels 🔥 love your channel!
Thank you!
i have become OBSESSED with sugar white death since i first watched this video, thank u sooo much for sharing
Some underground metal bands from Ukraine that I like:
пуща (post-black)
Agruss (black/death)
Mother Witch & Dead Water Ghosts (psychedelic doom)
Narrow House (doom)
White Ward (post-black/jazz)
Came to mention White Ward. Beautiful jazzy Black Metal.
white ward slaps
This comment is from Canada. We are currently hosting a refugee from Ukraine who arrived last week from Dnipro.Thank you for sharing your great musical culture.SLAVA UKRAINE !!
If you're into psychedelic/stoner/sludge/doom stuff you'll love Soom, Sex Blender and Goosła. Also, Electric Meadow fest is a huge festival, possibly the biggest one in these parts.
Also, Mozergush (though I'm not sure if they are still active), who were one of first stoner/doom bands from Ukraine. Also also, anyone interested in this type of stuff (heavy doom/stoner/sludge/psych) should check out Robust Fellow and Addicted Label - these are Ukrainian and Russian underground music labels that support the musicians on both sides of the border and try to mutually support each as well other while operating during times of war.
Another great band from Ukraine is Drudkh. Absolutely crushing black metal.
And Roman Saenko's other project: Hate Forest
I was hoping he would mention them. Love Drudkh
Thank you so much for covering Ukrainian bands, including ourselves, no matter how much we’d love it to happen under different circumstances.
Shoutout to Eugene of La Horsa Bianca, with whom we’ve had an honor to share the stage - we absolutely love what you’re doing. Stay safe, especially Kirill.
Though the situation is dire and grim, we know that Ukraine will stand. To anyone who thinks of supporting us - thank you kindly, but please donate to the Ukrainian Army or humanitarian causes instead (just not the ICRC, please). DM us on any social media if you’d like further details.
Thank you for the support and for putting so many great bands into the spotlight 💙💛
svitlana's music is incredible.. sugar white death is the only band i've heard where some songs will make my skin crawl and some will leave me absolutely mesmerized by their haunting beauty
I'm listening to their album right now. I believe it's called Manirna Muzyka. The full thing is on UA-cam, as I'm sure you know. I am in love with it. It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but as a fan of Mr. Bungle and other experimental music this is exactly what I was looking for. Too much experimental music is just noise. Sugar White Death is melodic while being incredibly strange.
Nice list! Somali Yacht Club, Tsukor Bila Smert and Ihor Tsymbrovskyi (there is typo in the vid btw) are my favs.
Here are few mentions from me: Zavoloka, Gamardah Fungus, NOOIT, Bohdan Stupak, Alla Zagaykevych, Svyatoslav Lunyov, Andrey Kiritchenko
Wonderful video, thanks for the great suggestions.

That moment when you discover your culture from the outer world.
Great selection and exciting stories. Thanks a lot!
Те саме, чого я дізнаюсь про цілі пласти електроніки і задротського пост-панку своєї країни з американського відео))
I completely salute this effort here with your video. Covering these bands and artists under such unpredictable circumstances and futures for their music. Every band would appreciate your support and effort to expose and support them during such trying times. The world needs more people doing exactly this. This world has so many incredible artists waiting and wanting to be heard without prejudice. I salute you "Bandsplaining". This is straight respect. Thank you for showing them to the world.
I did a brief guide about Ukrainian music over at r/indieheads, though my list was more about pop and emo. My personal recommendations of stuff that's most likely to resonate with people would be:
Джозерс
Mistmorn
Vivienne Mort
Latexfauna
Small Depo
and a lot of stuff from the Элек///чество label, which hails from Kharkiv. There's a ton of promising artists out there and I really hope that people will notice them.
Thank you for the video and Слава Україні! 💙💛
list of the literally most-pop artists.
btw, elek3chestvo is cringe
@@___-cu8rk it’s almost like I said it’s mostly indie pop, good reading comprehension, bud. Instead of being negative, go make your own list to popularize music that you like ;)
Check out the band called
serpents.
Midwest emo
@@___-cu8rk :(
So glad I found this channel. It’s honestly kinda rare that I find music documentaries on UA-cam that touch on music/music genres I’ve never heard of. I’ve found so much cool stuff through this channel. Thanks for making these
As a citizen from Russia it is so god damn painful to see everything that is happening right now. For the last 10+ years we, some part of sane Russians, did everything what we could to change the government but that was just not enough, we were outnumbered. Now it's too late, we can't say anything without being arrested and going to jail. Who knew fascism is so easy to replicate in 21 century. Now we can feel on our skin how war destroys everything, every part of human existence, including art and relationships. Those who made music now collecting money to support defenders of their country. As a musician myself I would like to make music with these people when it's all ends but I just don't believe they are willing to do so. And I totally understand that and it makes me sad.
I would like say thank you for your channel and this video in particular. Everything matters today, any help and any spotlight. I would also like to add one of my favourite Ukrainian musician to the list who works in a dreampunk genre - CMD094. Before the war the last thing I've heard is he had a health problems and stopped making new music. I don't know what's happening to him right now.
Very cool recommendation (CMD094)! I'm a little disappointed I'm just hearing them now after already finishing the video, but better late than never.
Also appreciate the thoughtful comment. I'm wondering if you'd be willing to get in touch over email. I'm curious to ask more about the what the situation is like right now as a Russian musician; and obviously, won't publish anything that could get you in trouble, etc. I'll leave my email here so you don't have to post yours: indiecelebritybingo@gmail.com
Thank you for bringing up CMD094. Thanks
Dope. I'm really glad you posted this. I'm definitely into La Horsa Bianca and the ones he mentioned. They sound great. As I continue watching this video I wonder if I've ever previously heard of any.
Thanks for introducing me to my new favorite bands, Somali Yacht Club and Stoned Jesus ❄️🥶❄️
I was once called by manager of Kollezski Asessor to make a new cover design for the remaster of their cassette from 90s, but unfortunately contact was lost then, and I don't even know if they done it at all. Also I was pleased to see a little mention of Pleroma band, because I had the honour of being acquainted with their frontman :). I thought that mentioned bands are so local, that their fame won't spread out of Kyiv, much less the West.
as others, thank you for approaching your content with humility, respect, and honesty.
Sherpa The Tiger CHEF KISS. Going to support everything on bandcamp that I can find. WONDERFUL stuff!
Thank you so much for this. I truly wish the best to your channel, hope this video gets to as much people as possible. :)
My favorite Ukrainian musician is Reizoko CJ (you may know him by his Cure for ADHD liveset) he makes insane breakcore/mashcore. In 2014 he suffered a lot from war in Donbas I hope he's safe now.
yes, Ukrainian breakcore and breakbeat is sick, ill check this out
Awesome video as usual. This was a really varied list. Thank you for the content and for shining light on these great artists.
I watched this video a few days ago and just wanted to come back and say I’ve been really digging Kurs Valut. Thanks for making their existence aware to me.
I’m Ukrainian, and now I’m living in Spain. Yo gave me a lot of inspiration and fresh breath to my own culture. And it’s sad that bands like this are not widely known in Ukraine and also around the world.
I was surprised because I didn’t know before major of these bands…
So thank you so much, i will share it with my Spanish friends.❤❤❤🤘🏻🇺🇦
White Ward is another excellent Ukrainian band from Odesa. They play black metal interlaced with long, atmospheric jazz passages. Their most recent album _False Light_ as well as 2019’s _Love Exchange Failure_ are both brilliant. They’re also going to be playing at the Roadburn festival in the Netherlands in April.
An amazing video! 👏
Perhaps you could consider taking a look at some Belarusian musicians and how they are dealing with the fact that their country is under Lukashenko's authoritarian regime?
For example, such bands as Lyapis Trubetskoy (and latter Brutto), Dzieciuki, N.R.M., Irdorath, maybe Stary Olsa, probably some other I don't know.
I actually wanted to follow-up with that exact topic -- as well as how the war has changed the lives of bands in Russia. So thank you for the recommendations.
Some old Belarussian bands are pretty cool. Ulis and Litsey are two that come to mind at the moment.
@@Bandsplaining That's great to hear!
@@Bandsplaining sounds fascinating
Belarussian band Molchat Doma is touring the US right now, they have a dark new wave sound.
You should definitely listen to Pale Swordsman by Këkht Aräkh. It is atmospheric lo-fi black metal, but the songs are so haunting that they sound almost sweet to me. I was surprised by the music, especially provided I don't really like metal.
Wonderful! Great idea for a video, even if it is *slightly* off the normal course. I certainly won't complain about a great cause with a great format. 👏👏
thank you for support and for mentioning us!
As a Ukrainian, further suggestions from me:
Воплі Відоплясова
Бумбокс
Okean Elzy
Dakh Daughters
Karna (great folk metal)
Брудні
The Unsleeping
For fans of hip-hop:
Krechet
Kalush
OTOY
Гоня
VovaZiLvova
А Кому Вниз, а Сокира Перуна ?
BB ❤️❤️
Kalush is not a hip hop anymore, but shutout for Оtoy and Гоня
Your style is dope Mr. Bandsplaining.
Keep it up!
Yes! This is the content I come to Bandsplaining for! Put it into my veins!
Outstanding work! Fascinating
Thank you for suggestions, so much amazing music
Always a great day when there's a new video. 👍👍
White Ward is a great black metal band that uses a lot of cool jazz arrangements and I highly recommend them!
Also I am very happy to have seen Vovk, Stoned Jesus and Jinjer in Bucharest in 2022; Ukraine has beautiful music and I hope that their scenes will fight this war (by whatever means suit them) and will be able to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. Slava Ukraini!
The ukrainian Novaya scena of the 80s and 90s is among my greatest musical discoveries, and I consider it every bit as distinct and innovative as eg. krautrock, rpi or RIO.
Glad to see Kollezhskiy asessor, Cukir bila smert’ and Svitlana Nianio covered - defintely among the cream of the crop of these scenes. Albums like Koll ass, Sex Bomben auf Engelland, Manirna muzyka and Transilvania Smile are among my all time favorites.
For anyone interested in more from this scene I recommend checking out groups like Tovarish, Kazma-kazma, Ivanov Down, Yarn, Ivan Samshit, Verba klos’ and Rabbota ho :)
and ELZA, another great Novaya Scena band
Would love to see a video about anadulu rock or ethiopian jazz, you are one of the best content creators I know.
Great work man!
Thanks for this. I am going through the bands you have included to see who I can add to my podcast. Oh and Kurs Valut are amazing (but I'm partial to EBM) 💙💛
My friend your channel is great. Being the snob that I am, when it comes to topics I’m familiar with I’ll think “oh he’ll definitely fuck up on this one”. But nope.
Also Maloi, defunct now but were still together in 2015 during the Crimean invasion, Another properly hardcore band Elephant Opinions absolutely sick band one member of which is literally fighting the war right now
Ukraine Rocks! We love you guys!
Another great band, a favourite of mine in that folk-ish style is called Yarn (and maybe some other projects by Olexandr Yurchenko). Truly charming music.
wow... thank you for this video! especially thanks for Skryabin! unfortunately even though their later works are known to every Ukrainian, their early albums are really really underground even though they're so cool. and it wasn't just a band, they were fighters for truth in Ukraine, which is the reason why their lead singer Andrii Kuzmenko unfairly paid with his life... he is the modern icon of Ukrainian culture and we miss him so much...💔
Thanks for your video and support! I also recommend you to listen Ukranian band which was called YARN and the symphony of composer Oleksand Yurchenko "Лічи до ста" (Count to 100).
Another banger video!!!
Ivanov Down, Kollezhsky Assesor, Viy and Tsukor Bila Smert' were all on one label at the time - KOKA Records in Poland. You can also look to the Oseledets(Oseledec) band, the first one on this label, which was the first to play punk/post-punk in Ukrainian. Check out Україна 86, Коли виростуть атомні гриби, Церкви горять songs)
Not a band but there’s a phenomenal Ukrainian producer/DJ named Sasha Renkas who releases music as Antenna. If you’re into proper techno and actual new-school electro, he’s one of the very best in the game. Tip!
Wonderful lisr
Best channel on youtube
Thanks for your work! It`s brilliant.
Also guys if you like rockabilly you must listen 2 bands
The first is WiseGuyz
And the second is Ruki'v Bryuki
They are incredible!
Thank you so much for these videos, for some reason the youtube algorithm doesn't like them, even though I'm subscribed it didn't show me your last four videos
Oh wow I actually love stoned jesus
Good deep cuts here, Спасибі!
I've been starving for some new Krautrock, Sherpa the Tiger is a nice addition.
Don't be shy on recommending some down below. No matter how long that list is lol. I WANT IT ALL!
Let me return the favor by providing some of the ones I know. Some bands lean towards it more than others but the influence is definitely there in their music.
[Bands] - [Intro track]
1. Sei Still: OTO
2. Krautwerk: Neuling
3. Korto: Hot Rock
4. CATACOMBZ: Moon Dawg (Note: this band can only be found on Bandcamp and the song provided for UA-cam)
5. Mt. Mountain: Tassels
6. Papir: V.I
7. Slift: Ummon (Noted: I know there is so much more going on with their music than just Kraut music obviously but the influence is there nonetheless)
👍 so good 👍 keep it up!!
Bro thank you for such a insightful video on Ukraine bands, it was very interesting and I deeply appreciate your support.
Сheck the band FLEISCHESMARKT from Odessa! They did some incredible acid krautrock back in the early 2010s
Dunno if it's underground or not but there is 'Unsigned Char'. They released only one album - 'Logos' - and probably disbanded themselves shortly after.
why so many dislikes? great vid man
Kremlin Gremlins prob
Nice video, greetings from Dnipro.
I write old school hip-hop music
A list of my current favorite Ukrainian bands in no particular order:
SadSvit - Rad Ukrainian post punk artist
BluesBreaker - Dirty, Moshtastic DIY Hardcore/Punk from Kyiv
DeathPill - All female Thrashy Hardcore
Кат - More hardcore from Kharkiv
Though this is in no particular order, as all of these bands rule, Id highly reccomend SadSvit's Cassette as it makes me feel things other than spin kick and mosh. Plus if you liked The Pleroma, you'll be into this too.
0:25 I recognize tbis street. It's in Kharkiv.
A educational upload. Thank you! Slava Ukraine
👍👍
fuck yes id been thinking about making this my next deep dive. this seals it
One of favorite post punk/dark wave bands is The Last Passenger from Ukraine.
SHARED to GAB.. some really GREAT music here SHIVA the DESTRUCTOR, Somali Yacht Club, Sherpa the Tiger, Voyage Futur, Valentina Goncharova
Really love the second band mentioned. Really reminds me to KFMDM.
Thank you! Atomic Simao and DZ'OB could possibly join the list.
nice taste man
btw “Skryabin” got recently their own movie
imma add the band "Signals feed the void" to the long list of suggestions in the comments
Watching your videos is painful, I have to pause all the time to add new tracks to my playlist
Check out Morwan, he put out an album in 2020 that slaps hard. Its like postpunk mixed with traditional folk and arabic melodies.
Having been in an industrial band for 20 years, kurs valut gives me panic attacks from incessant ebm 140bpm pain
Never expected to see a video on Ukrainian bands here :)
Thaaaaanks for your curiosity
just what they need rn
Love Kurs Valut
6:51 Voyage Future isn't ukrainian but austrian. If you want some good ambient from Ukraine, check out Iury Lech, whose album Música para el Fin de los Cantos is going to get reissued this month. Very calming stuff, reminiscent of Hiroshi Yoshimura !
Ahh good catch. Their releases are all tagged with "Kyiv" on Bandcamp, but looking closer, that might be their record label VILL4IN. In any case, thanks for the recommendation.
@@Bandsplaining Weird, the label had previously Shanghai as the location.
@@MartyMcVador Ahh, true. The record label did change the location to Kyiv right after the war started, but there's an Instgram post about how they have family in Ukraine (instagram.com/p/Cal8e1cgeF3/) so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was done out of solidarity and not just to get more plays.
Crazy to have a video about underground Ukrainian bands without any mention of Drudkh, Nokturnal Mortum, etc.
Great video 👍🏻
Thank you 💙💛
💛💙
If you like post punk definitely check out SMURNO and MORWAN, if you like indierock check out CORN WAVE, if you love punk a must is MЕТЕЛЬ
thank you for interesting video. not all the mentioned bands are underground but it's fine. i'd add to list Casa Ukrania from Odesa as well
I also love the Ukrainian band Onuka, even though I wouldn't really call them underground.
Yeehaw
here is a small editional list to the video:
× heavy / underground music ×

салют! is a good ukranian underground screamo band that needs more recognition
wow! thanks man! amazing voyage into ukrainian scene. good job! also check Blablarism project from Oksana Zmorovych. It is realy great!
This channel is criminally unsubscribed, amazing work
Does WIJ (Viy) from Ukraine that is mentioned in this video have a Bandcamp page? It seems to be impossible to find, as every artist tagged Viy (or Вий or Вiй) appears to be from different country and a completely different artist.
Thank you so much that you are sharing other important info about Ukraine except war ❤️🇺🇦
You can also try to listen to Atomic Simao, they are nice
watched this video months ago, but needed to come back to say, SLAVA UKRAINI
You should add Fontaliza their sound is still amazing and unique to this date
