You are like no one else I've ever watched. You provide not only the details of what's happening but the social and political context of the era that the music was made in and the factors which caused some groups to split up.

I think maybe you accomplished way more than you thought you did - in the best and most heartbreaking way.
When the mention of the regular gigging place being demolished, I thought of instruments being ruined, bandmates - it's silly, but it made me feel like these were one of the bands Inused to gig with. It just brought the tragedy of this war from far away to right next door

What are the odds I just met the most beautiful individual from Ukraine I was at a gas station and I thought hey I'm going to ask if I can buy a cigarette.. and then one looking the eyeballs the good old eyeballs... I'm trying to write a comment but I have so much to say I can't choose my words. Amazing video, thank you very much. War is not over. I don't know when I will be able to be in the same room with my band again. A day before it started we were watching Oasis Knebworth concert and having beers, and 5 days before it started we were rocking out at our music video release show in Lviv. Now as a refugee, maybe only 3-4 times I touched a guitar... All members have been scattered in different cities and our drummer got drafted just this week.

I'm also patiently waiting for something about the Belarusian bands. Even before the current conflict, their country had been experiencing decades of dictatorship and in 2020 the most significant wave of protests against it to date, followed by a brutal crackdown.
I remember that you expressed an interest in this topic before in a comment but I understand that the making of your videos takes time and a lot of effort.
Speaking of Ukrainian scene during the war - please tell the history of Masterskaya, the biggest indie-label of Ukraine and one of the most influential labels for the scene of Russia for like years. The label was turned into a humanitarian-aid organization, helping injured and suffered from russian invasion, and was ceased to exist a couple of months ago, simply because the label as a business entity was surviving by making shows, tours and festivals, which became impossible since the beginning of the invasion. The label that gave hope and inspiration for the indie-scene of Russia (like really - Masterskaya became a place of help for musicians, that found themselves not needed on labels of their own country), and that was killed when trying to help people to survive the invasion of the same Russia. The guys from Masterskaya really have big balls of steel, besides - the guys from Masterskaya have managed to change the pop sound of all the ex-soviet space.
It's easy to see those pro-Russian bands sell-out and shame them, but lest we forget, that scene is all to familiar to us in the US. 20 years ago, and that was us.
The thing i fell in love with in your videos is your focus on art of playing music, and not on the political "loud namecalling" side of things. Keep up your work, its valuable

These events are really sad and I hope the war ends as soon as possible. The Pro-Russian tours have been one of the biggest blows to the credibility of Russian Rock bands in history. However I think it is good to note that none of the bands performing there have ever been put in the ranks of legends, or even critically successful artists. A lot of those people performing are using names that are half-dead in terms of musical relevance. Sergey Galanin has never topped his fame since his time as a bassist in Brigada S, and Smyslovie Galyutsinatsie have been performing without their original band founder and main songwriter (who works solo now, remains a decent human being and makes much better music than them).
If you look at bands and artists who actually influenced the Russian mainstream and underground music communities, the list of people who spoke clearly against the war is pretty big, and these aren't some one-hit wanderers from the mid 90s.
Boris Grebenchikov, DDT, Time Machine, Televizor, Nautilus Pompilius, Mumiy Troll, Sekret, Nol, Bravo, Krovostok, Nogu Svelo, Kruiz, Tequilajazzz, NAIVE, Megapolis, the list goes on.
I think the younger bands are the ones that speak out less because they never experienced these sort of conditions. People like Boris were cancelled by the regime since 1974, he doesn't't have lots to loose nowadays.
I also want to mention how the Russian government is doing their fullest to turn dead icons into a symbol of the war. There was news about the Russian soldiers receiving performances of Victor Tsoi and Egor Letov songs to amp up the "fighting spirit". These are two people who are dead and their music is being bastardized in such a way.
on a sidenote (I know this might not be an appropriate time) but I really recommend checking out the Baltic countries and their scene throughout the USSR till today. They had a vibrant Psychedelia, Punk and New Wave scene that many music journalists (such ad Artemiy Troitsky) believe to have been the best in the USSR.

Not sure how seriously you're wondering but that's just from my collection of synth drones for scoring 😂. It was played on a Korg Lambda which is sometimes called the string machine of the Gods.

Hearing what you have to say about the war and music and Ukraine, I'm surprised that you had absolutely nothing to say about Jinjer, which at least I would consider to be the largest Ukrainian band. In March '22, they paused their career to focus on relief efforts after the Russian invasion and in June '22, they received permission from the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture to leave Ukraine as ambassadors of the nation.

The Russian bands probably have to be on the down low, regarding public opinion. The whole Z thing going on is complicating things.

I don't know when you talked to them, but it seems that western Ukraine is quite safe and people are going back to their country, I heard from people I met that they can go back to their jobs for example in Kyiev.
The conversations were in March & April, but we've kept up over email and not a whole lot has changed in their situations, unfortunately. Kharkiv is still getting shelled daily and even in Kyiv or Lviv, my understanding is that it depends on where you live. If your apartment is near a military outpost or other important infrastructure, your odds of being targeted are higher.
Definitely nice to see the videos of seemingly normal life returning to Kyiv, though
My family and friends also went back to work, although the front line is 20 kilometers away and rockets fly into town every now and then. It's because food and housing are not free, not because it has become safer. In western Ukraine, rental prices increased tenfold in the first days of the war. Not everyone has the opportunity to rent an apartment for $800 to $1,000 when the average wage in the country is barely over $400. So many people who fled to western Ukraine in the early days of the war were forced to go back because their savings or earnings, if they managed to find a new job there, were simply not enough to live there.

The members of the Russian bands could be arrested for showing sympathy for the bands in Ukraine. Putin has made it illegal to even refer to it as a war or an invasion.

The US absolutely has free speech, you can say anything you want, even that the president should be killed, so long as you don't demonstrate the "temper and intent" to actually do it. The US absolutely has freedom of speech.
I was in the US military, and I was also an anti war activist, we had the biggest protests in US history when the wars started. Even military members can protest just not in uniform as in an official position as a service member. I have know many service members in anti war movements.

When you are done covering urgent, very relevant and important issues and maybe ready for some straight up music history can you please cover "Danger Music" and Japanese noise? Notable artist HANATARASH and their show where EYE (AKA eye from the Boredoms later on) driving a bulldozer into the venue and destroying it and subsequently being banned in Japan.
