Jah Wobble, Youth, Paul Raven, Simon Gallup, Peter Hook, Tracy Pew, David J, Dave Allen, J.J. Burnel, Steve Hanley, Barry Adamson, Les Pattinson, Andy Rourke, Graham Lewis, Simon Underwood, Julian Cope, Derek Forbes, pretty much all the bassists of the early post-punk era were inventive as hell.
Charlie Dingle Joy Division was kind a band of full of wankers, I still like some of their tunes, but the amount of praise that they get compared to better UK post-punk bands around the same time is absurd.
Indeed, all UK Dub Reggae and all of the stuff coming from Jamaica, plus any and all American Free Avant/Jazz musicians like Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Andrew Hill, etc. Listening to that music recently and I can defiantly hear a link between that stuff and the later UK post-punk scene. It seemed the Post-Punk crew's influences extended to anything that wasn't bog-standard long-haired spinal-tapish hard rock or the dreadful disco yacht rock period of the late 70s. Prog is often seen as the total enemy of all Punk related genres, but i'd argue that the Post-Punk bands took from the more adventurous and less cartoony of the early 70s prog bands ( like King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Can) very freely. It was a effort to make all the genres interesting, and to literally push rock out of it's limited boundaries past it's breaking point.
I bought the 7" where the original of this was the b side, stupidly didn't get the 10" with this dub on which came out later although I loved it. I was making very similar music at the time with Martin Campbell, JA Roots artist. Still got a load of tapes. Great to hear this again.
Jonathan Vogel At the beginning of one of the Stiff Little Fingers Peel Sessions (here on YT, that is), you can hear him back announcing at the end of Nervous System; sounds like one of the first times he had heard/played it...
what a classic track... this and the entire first KJ album - takes me back to my squatting days in Shore ditch and Elephant in the early 80s .. are you receiving?
I knew Jazz Coleman when he lived in Cheltenham, he used to do some jams with Wurzel. Pre Motohead. We were all at a party one night and Bryan Ferry turned up. made an arse of himself

Everything you could ever want from a dub version.. total class xx
Superb, reminds me of Jah Wobble in PIL.
Killing Joke in dub album is a killer! Wicked three set to blow any speaker if it needs blowing...😜⭐️🎲
about 6 years ago I told my older brother it would be cool if someone did something with killing joke's turn to red, glad I found this
Love this song version too 😊
"When the student is ready, the master will appear." I'm starting to feel that way having only just discovered Killing Joke.
👍 As Jaz once said (courtoulds talks) : You can't avoid initiation! 🎶🔑
Thanks!
Youth knew how to do it from the start and still does, bless him...
