Wouldn’t Thomas Tallis be astonished to learn that we’re still loving his composition five hundred years later?❤
He would be very happy ❤️ am sure he would cry a little 🥺
He would be very pleased.
I would like to tell him...
I think I would be surprised and happy ❤
I think he knows.
458 years later, people still love this anthem.
Amazing
Quality lasts
Thank you so much for sharing the sheet music. About two decades ago I was in an excellent vocal group, the latest in a number of ensembles with whom I had the privilege of singing. Unfortunately I had to leave the last ensemble because health problems required me to undergo repeated surgeries. The intubation caused damage and scarring to my vocal folds and I have barely sung since. But I must have performed this with one of my prior ensembles... the vocal and physical memory I have for music I perform lasts beyond my conscious recall, and when I heard this piece I was able to sing along--very gently at first, but with a very small level of increasing confidence--because my voice remembered what I do not. I have been rehearsing my voice now gently since you posted this and I think I might, in a few months' time and with care for the way I exercise my vocal folds, be able once again to audition for an a capella group near me. If you had not posted this gorgeous piece with the music... I don't know that those neurons, that body memory, would ever have fired the same way. Tallis, Palestrina, Cornysh, that's the stuff right there... and I honestly had forgotten just how singing feeds my soul. It has been 20 years. You may have helped me save my voice after two decades. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Maire Johnson Beautiful testimony, best wishes to you, so happy you’re singing again!
Thanks for your moving testimony! Wish you all the best!
Ah, I'll send up a prayer, what a precious testimony! To uplift praise to the Savior is one of the greatest privileges
Maire, thank you so much for writing this. It’s incredible for us to read such stories, and it makes us so proud to think that we‘ve helped in even a small way. All good luck to you in your journey back to singing again. Even if it’s a long journey, it’s one worth taking and we’re thrilled to read that you have the strength to start it. All our best wishes
You are so right-it’s still there in the muscle memory. I have a dear friend, formerly a professional trumpeter, who suffered tremendous trauma to her lower jaw many years ago, for which she has several pins. Another friend, our former marimba band teacher and leader, insisted (!) that she start to play again, in order to contribute the trumpet to our arrangements. She did, and what she had thought impossible became possible. Her brilliant jazz trumpet is now resurrected and delighting all who listen! Music heals not only the listeners, but also and especially those who actually do it. Go for it!
Am proud to say i was part of thst choir before o moved yo Canada
Thank you for helping me through my depression healing
Heilig Heilung liebe danke. ❤
This is one of the most beautiful anthems ever written. The tenor part is a joy and delight to sing.
The tenor line is why I’m a tenor
Yep, was looking so forward to singing it at Pentecost. Not anymore.
The bass is fun, too. But it's hard to go lower than the bass of the Harmony Quartet's version.
Sang for tenor and soprano... Both were fun to sing also
@@popswhippersnapper9629 Heck yeah - I checked Harmony Quartet, per your suggestion. They rearranged it to four voices - in C - and the bass goes for the fundamental. This version by King's Singers was done in F. I sing it with ladies doing the upper voices in E. Great piece; fine group.
Was 16 when I first sang this for state choir. Still singing it right now at 49, and it heals my soul. Beautiful and timeless. Thank you King’s Singers for an amazing performance.
I'm an atheist, but singing with you all makes me cry.
That’s what is so beautiful about music. No matter it’s meaning or origin, it can speak to every person just the same.
perhaps there was garlic near you or near you crying eyes ?! lmao 😂😪😭🧄
....which prooers you are not an atheist.
This piece turned me from an atheist back into a Catholic. It took a while, and it wasn’t quite that simple, but it really did.
Oh bless you, you’ve taken the first step. Just follow your tears back to the man of sorrows who weeps for you constantly❤
"If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another comfort that he may bide with you forever, even the spirit of truth," Thank you for sharing this beautiful song, and the text is a comforting reminder that we are never alone.
True!
Only if you believe in sky fairies.
Er, "Comforter" (Holy Spirit is a Person)
Who, being pure Spirit has no gender but in character - comforter, teacher, guide et al is feminine - as is the word in Aramaic and Hebrew, the two languages spoken by Jesus, who would therefore have used it as such. Hence the tendency of many choirs to sing “…that She may bide with you forever; the Spirit of Truth!”
@@Tinker1950 I’m a year younger than ye 😎 but don’t see deism (in the right deity) as having anything to do with ‘fairies’… tink before you gibe 😅
Thanks to mr. Thomas Tallis for such a wonderful masterpiece. It makes my cry fur such a beauty Anthem. Thanks to The King's Singers fur this musical deligth.
Superbly sung! Only Tallis can combine the musical traditions of the Roman and Anglican Churches and end up with this masterpiece!
Johnny Howard (bass) is radiating such warmth, it kind of sent me over the edge. As if the music itself wasn't already too beautiful.
This is stunningly beautiful and takes me back 70 years when I was a 7yr old chorister at Birmingham Cathedral. How brilliant a way to record this lovely anthem - truly music is timeless in its beauty.
So beautiful. I love the scriptures sung like this. ❤
Over the years since this was first posted I have listened to it many times; the joy of hearing this never lessens. I wonder: was Tallis fortunate enough to have heard so good a performance of the incredibly beautiful anthem he had written?
I love this motet with all my body, mind and soul. 👍😍🇿🇲🇿🇲
😭😭😭😭 miss you alot JK. Rest in peace. You really loved this motet.
Seamless harmonies and pure intervals, with the same vowel pronunciations, and gentle entrances. Lovely performance KS, thank you.
On the Eve of Pentecost, thank you for this beautiful Pentecost anthem. Tallis is always so very pure.
Thanks for this performance. I have a hearing disability and in this way with lyrics, score and most importantly the singers "an face", I can understand it much better and even follow the bass part! This song touches my heart, my soul. It makes me cry, gives me joy and let me pray. Many, many thanks. God's blessings.
Beautifully performed. God bless our Orthodox people wherever they may be.
Мусульманский тоже.
Храни АЛЛАХ
That harmony... so gorgeous! I've sung this so many times, but it never grows old. One of the most beautiful anthems I've ever sung, Thomas Tallis must have had you in mind when n he wrote it!
I echo your sentiments.
You are divine. As pure as song can get. Nothing more can be added or subtracted from this elemental beauty of your voices. Thank you for creating something so close to god as possible.
A much needed musical gift during a difficult time.
Great !!!
Beautiful men with even more beautiful music !!!
God bless Thomas Tallis.
thank you oh my goodness. how are you all BLENDING SO WELL when you aren’t even PHYSICALLY WITH EACH OTHER

@@antoniomm2879 Lo siento, pero, que tiene que ver esto con el video?
Thanks for including the score. I sang along. Miss being in the choir. Oh, and thank you, David Ward, for teaching it to us so many years ago - rest in peace.
Just came here to sooth my soul, and my soul has been soothed
One of the most beautiful compositions (both words and music) ever written. Thank you.
I have had the great pleasure to regularly meet in Rome the King Singers, as they were before 'the changing of the guards'. I still see John and Christopher, whose voices remind me the joyful Christmas concerts at the Parco della Musica Auditorium; and the time David H, Timothy, Christopher G. , Paul P. , Christopher B. and Johnny shared with us in the near bookshop, after the concert, signing the covers of their CDs to us... It seems to me an entire lifetime has flown down. I would like to wish them all the very best and tell them 'Good-bye'. Also, I would like to thank the new 4 members for melting their voices with such a grace to the older two singers. A new group, the same desire to keep a wonderful acappella tradition alive, in this strange world and hard times. Thanks a lot for your precious Xmas present. Stay well, all of you; a sincere wish of Merry Christmas
I had the opportunity to hear the original six King's Singers at my college in the early 1980's. Being a choral/voice student I also got chosen to pick them up from and take them back to the airport for their gig. I have been a HUGE fan ever since. Not only were those gentlemen terrific musicians and an exquisite ensemble, they were/are warm, hysterical, and fantastic individuals. You all continue to sound every bit as wonderful and you imbue your performances with the same musicality, love, empathy, and compassion (not to mention humor) that the original six did. Bravo!
Ah, this made me remember how much i love renaissance repertoire. Just divine - nothing more. And that open fifth at the end is the most gorgeous yet simple thing ever. Phenomenalotastic music
How beautiful!! Heavens music!
The King's Singers continue to be the very best all male group I've ever been privileged to hear. Replacement singers have succeeded in maintaining the exact same sound of this amazing group. Thank you for posting this video...most interesting to see the sheet music along with the performance. Modern technology is incredible!
What about Chanticleer?
@@ruperttmls7985 Wow. That's a tough one. I feel KS would have a very slight edge just because of the size of the ensemble would give them more versatility in sound. Both are amazing.
@@ruperttmls7985 I like Kings Singers better. I don't like Chanticleer's tone as much.
Music for the gods humans enjoy on earth:!DGJ.
I am very lucky to have booked to see the King's Singers in January 2022 in Nancy, France. I too think they are the best all male group (in fact the best group!) and I can't wait to go. Modern technology is incredible but to see them for real will be simply outstanding I am sure!
This is a perfect and crushingy beautiful replay of an anthem I first sang as a choirboy in the 1970's. Publishing the music is genius, acting as a sightreading tool for those days when I simply have to join in, becoming a King's Singer for a fleeting moment in my life (albeit someone who would never make your exceptional grade).
Contempories of Tallis were the go-to pillars of our repetoire, and I now know years later that I was given a tour as a chorister, of genius composers.
This recording is stunningly, achingly beautiful and crystal clear - thank you for sharing this jewel of English Choral Music (and other recordigs) to start my day each day - they are, put simply, beautiful renditions.
The best 2:39*5 minutes of my day. Thank you.
Thank you so very much. In earlier times my greatest joy was to sing in choirs. Due to breathing problems I can no longer hit or hold the notes with any strength. So now I enjoy your lovely voices an sing along in the privacy of my home. Thank you.
Their voices are so resonant that you do not notice the absence of the music. Una sensazione sublime di completezza, non manca nulla. A perfect beauty.
This is BY FAR my favourite Thomas Tallis piece, from my favourite Choral group. The best 2:39 of this year, to date. Thank you!
Clearly everyone here has an absolutely beautiful voice, but there is something about the Bass that is incredibly fascinating to me. Such deep notes in such brilliant clarity... it's absolutely mesmerizing.
Fantastic! Thank you, King's Singers, for bringing such joy into peoples lives!
On the other hand, I as a bass singer marvel how.a man can sing the soprano part so smoothly and effortlessly.
Doesn't hurt that he's quite handsome! :)
@@steve05401 Lookism.
Music is about sound, not appearance.
This would sound just as beautiful if he were plain-looking (or worse), like me.
Nice soothing music to the soul.I liked this song when I was singing in the church choir Buru Buru church of God in Nairobi Kenya.
I love everything about this! Thank you so much for sharing.❤❤❤
This song always makes me cry. This was one of the songs I sang with my late choir director ❤️
❤️
Me too. I had to sing it by heart in the Zezere Arts Festival. I choked every time in the middle.
@@howardphillips8513 You both have excellent taste .
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father,

Thank you for the text from John 14: 15-17a
Your perfect tuning of intervals not available in a tempered environment is such a delight making listening pure pleasure! Thank you!
Thank you for putting the musical score with the singers, it adds to the enjoyment a lot!
oh lord - thank you so much for these sing alongs. I sing in a couple of choirs - one big concert choir (100 + voices and one small early music group with 3 or 4 in each voice). Neither are rehearsing at the moment due to covid lockdown restrictions and I am SO missing that part of my life. It's such a pleasure to be able to sing along with such magnificent vocal talent. So thank you from the bottom of my heart!
This is a gem. Thank you for sharing. 😇
Just amazing. I can't stop watching the video. Thanks for your voices together
This has for the 40 years I’ve known of you and listened to your, been the standard by which all other ensembles are measured. Bless you all!
Dear King's Singer... you have been a constant, delightful, soothing and emotionally inspirational presence in my life since I first heard you on a British Airways Flight in 1973, over the in-flight entertainment system singing, "Your Feets Too Big." I have a LASER disc (no word of a lie) of your Christmas songs from Harrow House (?) which has been a family tradition since the 1980s.What more can I say? Thank you. Thank you.
Beautiful! Bravo as usual to the Kings Singers! Love them!✝️🙏
Whoa, Nellie! That gave me such chills I have to climb under a blanket. WOW! That was gorgeous beyond description.
Thank you! I love Tallis. Posting the score was a great idea. I was singing along with you guys. (Glad to know my sight-reading skills haven't deteriorated too badly.)
As a choir teacher, moving everything online I find this to be VERY useful!!!
Boys, all my respect, your voices are awesom. Many people in the time of the covid and isolation were angry and didn't know what to do with themselves. But you did masterpiece.
Thanks, btw I'm a great fan of renaissance and baroque music.
❤🤗
Spine-chillingly beautiful, guys! All hail Mr. Tallis.🧡
Thank you for this tender and pure rendition of this anthem for the ages. Providing the sheet music is special kindness.
I keep coming back to listen again and again. So calming. Thank you.
What A Beautiful Gift

Magique! ✨
Makes me cry every time.
Thanks for such videos! Celestial. Just can't find a better word.
Thank you from the U.S. We need this right about now.
Truth .
da sempre un esempio di quanto sia bello cantare insieme. vedere questi ragazzi così ben preparati non può che spingerci a migliorare sempre più la qualità dei nostri cori.
Grazie per quello che fate per la musica corale
Rounding up the year with this amazing holy motet ❤🇿🇲
Oh those heavenly voices. Such exquisite smartness and order. The sound is almost leading me to heaven😍🙏👍🇿🇲
Dare to believe the words they sing and it will lead you to heaven. Truthfully.
Ringing harmonies, so true.
Lol, I had already left a comment, but today I wanted to add that this performance is pretty wonderful. The return to the tonic at the end is so satisfying. Thank you for this.
Gloire à Notre Seigneur Dieu Sauveur.
La plus belle interprétation que j'ai pu entendre concernant ce chant ..
Merci Pour Lui...qui l'a en même temps suscité en vous....🕊️🎺✨
Oh! Doesn't this make me miss my music groups! I just hope after all that we are going through, we can ALL get back together again! XXX
Absolutely amazing. Close your eyes and listen. It transports you back to tudors times.
Very, very beautiful. I love the music of Thomas Tallis, and these singers do justice to him. Many thanks for this gem.
Thank you for this wonderful rendition. So clean, also serve a reminder for us about the message of this song.
Nice and I now understand the words after 50 years
Beautiful performance! Clear and simple vocal lines of an encouraging message.
Beautiful - thank you.
I love singing along -- the bass line. I drop the octave on the final note, and man does it resonate!
So enjoyed singing all with you guys. Thank you, reminded me what it was like for my soul to soar.
Ah this is time well spent, thank you.
Sublime ! ❤
As I said in another of your recent videos, I feel my cells, my soul and my DNA regenerate when I hear this. In these days before Christmas, I've shown this video to 28 people, people who were grateful to have discovered you and to have felt the Divine Peace that your sound delivers. I, as a chorister, have been a fan of the King's Singers since about 12 years ago, but I am absolutely amazed at the group tone of your current six members, and how extraordinary each of your individual voices are. I listened to this 7 times today, singing along, and couldn’t also resist in researching about Thomas Tallis for my history blog today. Thank you, God bless you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Sublime and the most satisfying way to praise our Lord.
So much beauty here, lest we forget what matters most. Thanks, guys.
Wenn ich mal im Himmel bin, möchte ich Euch 24/7 hören und auf meiner Wolke frohlocken.
Tears well up in my eyes listening to this Anthem at 2.45 am in the morning.
For the last 3 years, I have absolutely loved this piece!
The bass lines usually take my attention in early music, but this tenor line... oh boy!
Magnificently sung. A pure portal to the Holy Spirit realms. God Bless You All!
Thank you for making these recordings. They're an absolute joy to listen to 🙂
This is an outstanding ensemble. The sheer beauty that is brought forth. It touches the soul. #magnificent
That. Was. Totally. And Completely. Wicked. Awesome. Thank you, gentlemen.
So very beautifully done and balanced to heavenly perfection
I remember when I got to sing this song with my old chamber choir 😭 Thank you for the trip down memory lane!
What a perfection! Thank you so much for a gift! ❤️🌹❤️🌹
Merci pour cette remarquable prestation de très haute qualité vocale
Gorgeous.
Thanks so much about your touching rendition. It truly releases from any kind of grief.
Oh my God, this was so fun! I thought I knew how to read music but this alto part was tricky, and it took me three times to get it, but I finally did. How beautiful to be able sing with The King's Singers! :) Thank you so much!
Thank you for this work. Reminds me of the KS concert in Warwick c.1973, with Brian Kay et al. And when I sang with a local choir in recent years.
Fabulous.what a privilege to have access to such marvellous music
