One of the best parts about having kids is sharing our childhood toys with them and how they actually appreciate the classics more than the modern “toys” of today. Can’t tell you how many hours we’ve spent playing with our Joes together and how many memories we’ve made already! And yes, we have a Sea Ray in our collection so we enjoyed this review. Ok, the Sea Ray isn’t exactly a realistic concept, but who cares - it’s such a cool vehicle regardless. Yo Joe!
I can't tell you how thrilling it is to hear accounts like this. There must be nothing better in this world than playing with the toys you love with your kin! And toys like the Sea Ray are the coolest. A flying submarine?! What could be more fun! No further justification needed.
The Sea Ray was one of my last vehicles i got when i was a kid. I remember not liking the looks when separated. But when combined it was the coolest futuristic vehicle cobra had.
Yep. The separation is naff. But all the ways you can play with this thing really elevate the fun factor. Flying submarines. They shouldn't exist. But I'm so glad they do.
I'm so excited you uploaded a video today, and this one was great. My neighbor/friend growing up had a Sea Ray from a mail-in offer, I think. Our biggest Joe years were 90-93, so that had to be it. Also, I just got that orange Battle Corps Wet Suit on Friday and I love him. I had the yellow one as a kid, but lost his helmet IMMEDIATELY, rendering him useless.
Great review (and reviews - I've been binge-watching your channel)! I'm looking forward to seeing what other vehicles get to go outside and really perform...
Ahhh, yes! I got told they reviewed this! I had so many fun times having Slipstream and the Conquest hunting down Major Blodd and Zartan doing espionage missions in this hang-glider thing!
Thanks Jason! When we are on location, these things practically shoot themselves. We really are just filming ourselves playing! It has often occurred to us to maybe drop the pretense of a review entirely... Like the Condor Battle vid.
I remember having this as a kid... I got it through a mail-away offer. I'm guessing I totally overlooked the fact that it was two vehicles because mine came in boring white box. I always thought the handles underneath were meant to hold an EEL, so that's what I did with them. To think back on those times in the pool and realize I had two vehicles in one... damn. Well, at least my idea with them worked well enough.
To be honest, it's better as one unit. I always reckoned split apart features were designed with siblings in mind. So that parents didn't have to buy duplicate toys, but each child had a component to play with. But now they're just bonkers. Just be glad you didn't have a big brother breathing down your neck for your Sea Ray!
I figured out who to put on the glider. I feel uncomfortable having the thrusters so close to the legs and the Mach 2 speeds would kill a man. Only candidates that make sense are a BAT (preferably a amphibious model. Maybe Red Lazer.) or MAYBE a Cobra-La character or one of the very late Monster or alien action figures as we don't know what they can or can't handle.
I liked the sea ray. I don't even care that the canopy hinge is weak and the tabs on the glider tend to break.the shape, color and detail is excellent.
Super solid review. Fine work as always. I’ve always liked the Sea Ray as a vehicle and it’s nice to see a Cobra vehicle that has not only a direct Joe counterpart, but also dare I say one-ups the Sharc. I’d say, if I had to guess, the separation aspect would be useful more as a multi personnel delivery system. The ray delivers a couple eels into the shallows, maybe even a single man, detaches to allow the teammate to use the hang-glider mode, and then skulks about in the pod until the mission needs him back. Otherwise, aside from some fancy maneuvers, there’s no real reason to split for a single pilot. A thought, though: an aircraft-styled submersible would be similarly effective underwater as far as increased mobility, so perhaps they decided it would just be smart to use it’s apparently massively overpowered engines to hurtle through the sky as well.
It's funny though, now that you mention it; we've always typically shot around Table Mountain but always kept it out of the frame. I always wanted to keep the vids from being easily geographically placed. Perhaps we should embrace it rather!
brilliant review !! very cool cobra vehicle. I picked up one a couple of weeks ago in a spares joblot and is seriously damaged. may use it as a wreck feature in a fish tank.
Let's say I wouldn't use a museum-quality specimen on these shoots; but I've been playing at sea with pretty much all my childhood collection since I got them with no ill effects. Salt water does make a residue that will cling to the figure's t-hook (onto which the legs attach), so I'd advise you to rinse with fresh water after play! And yes, screws will rust. But keeping aquatic figures away from water is a bigger crime in my books!
Wahay! Check out Eagle Eye here! Yes it does. I always found the back end slouched a little low in the surf. The whole thing starts taking on water and then she goes down with all hands. So jamming a little foam in that cavity helps keeping her afloat. Well-spotted!
The fact a Sea Ray can shoot upwards in shallows reminds me a lot of how stingrays attack people in real life. You accidentally step on or near it and it whips its tail upwards and hits you with its stinger.
@@gijoburg Yup...I don't care if that was a freak accident or if tourists do it all the time. You won't see me swimming with them on purpose. That is for certain.
I always loved water based toys, the sad thing is I don't live near an ocean, or have a pool, or bathtub, which makes me sad. But that won't stop me from imagining they're under water, just wont be as fun.
If I’m brutally honest, playing in actual water is in danger of being overrated. It’s difficulty to really get into the narrative of the mission; you’re always battling the elements. My best playtimes involved imaginary combat in deep water. So keep it up!
GI Joburg I recently found I have a interest in GI Joe although I'm much younger, being only 13, gi Joe and toys from the 80's are my favorite kind of toys because of my parents, I also like mask, rom, silverhawks, and transformers. So keep doing what doing guys. YO JOE AND ROLL OUT!
I got the Sea Ray back in the day as a present; design-wise, it really wasn't the coolest vehicle. The glider half was pretty lame. I liked Sea Slug tho'; because of him being buff, I usually pitted him against Sgt. Slaughter.
You should give it a try sometime, those stickers are more robust than you think! And the repro sticker market has your back if something does go wrong. But yeah, been playing in and around water with Joe since I was a youngster. .
I never cared for this vehicle I liked the sharc better because it was built for water play with deep six diving feature I never put my figures near water I didn’t want the joints to rust

Yep. We 'get it' too!

Any wonder I keep building Cobra vehicles! These things keep getting more n more unbelievable every time I see them. Awesome!
this is why i love this channel. they dont put the toys in a table and review them. they go to the terrain and show us! keep it doing.
We started out putting toys on tables and talking about them... But we soon learned this was way more fun! Don't you worry, we'll keep em coming!
GI Joburg yeah i know you did but this more enjoiable then put them in a table and bla bla bla about it.
We agree!

That Wetsuit is radical! I dig the removable helmet which reveals his incredible '90s mullet!
Man, I wanted to jump into the screen and start playing!
I hear that! They looked like they were having barrels of fun doing this!
Heck yeah. Water toys (that fly) are the greatest!
Dudes I'm pumped GI Joburg is rising on UA-cam, they're hilarious and deserve it! Keep it up boys!
We're pretty pumped about it too! Thanks for the support buddy!

Kick ass scenario that. I’ll bet the bad guys had a few tricks up their sleeves.
my brother had the stingray and the sea slug it was a very fun toy and figure some of my best memories are with that toy
You guys are just having too much fun with these toys! I would be there playing with them too! Great video!
Thanks Jason! When we are on location, these things practically shoot themselves. We really are just filming ourselves playing! It has often occurred to us to maybe drop the pretense of a review entirely... Like the Condor Battle vid.
I agree with you guys sea Ray's two of them with Cobra Eels attached well protected in a Cobra bug and hammerhead
Eel V1, 2, or something else?

Great review, I ordered two complete Sea Rays and I also ordered two complete Sea Slugs off of eBay on yesterday and earlier today.
Great stuff! Enjoy them all. Is it a plane? Is it a sub? It's both and it's a ton of fun.

Yes! And the flying sub angle is so much fun. Glad you like it. We've developed a great appreciation for it too.
Part classic '80s toy commercial; part review - you guys rock.
Thanks for the support bud!

Looks like the Cobra Sea Ray is a fitting vehicle for summer since I reside in the northern hemisphere.
Heck, it ain't too bad in a Cape Town winter either!
You guys have one of, if not the best video toy review productions on youtube. Only wish you could get paid to do more.
But then we'd be forced to up our crappy production values! And buy real cameras! And lose our oddball charm!
I love the fact this was done by the beach.
So do we! Brings back a lot of great memories.
Great stuff GI Joburg! Loved the video!
Thanks Pete! Glad you liked and thanks for commenting. It means a lot.
I wish I had not moved to Legos by 1988-89 because this toy looks Amazing 😮😮😮😮.
I miss running around and making sound effects with toys.
When no one is looking, do it. That's what we do. And then we put it on the Internet. Lolzzz.
Awesome! Next I want to see Cobra attacking Table Mountain.
Gee, I've taken a few Joes like Alpine and Tiger Force Shipwreck to the top; never a Cobra. Guess we're biased at GI Joburg!
It's funny though, now that you mention it; we've always typically shot around Table Mountain but always kept it out of the frame. I always wanted to keep the vids from being easily geographically placed. Perhaps we should embrace it rather!
Well, I think GI Joburg is the best ever name for a GI Joe channel and your location is built into the name, so celebrating it would be cool!
You dig the name? Awesome! I shall tell Paul, it was his idea back in 2011...
This was a great review! I know you guys have amazing play motion videos, but you also have the best reviews in my opinion!
Ha! An oldie but a goodie. I think the origin of playmotion is pretty evident in this one. There are a few action sequences if I recall correctly!
The glider. Does it hold its pilot/occupant with a back pin or a clip?
Back plug. I think the clip system came in from 1990.
brilliant review !! very cool cobra vehicle. I picked up one a couple of weeks ago in a spares joblot and is seriously damaged. may use it as a wreck feature in a fish tank.
Be the most excellent wreck feature your fishies could have ever hoped for. Toss in a few Cobra and Joe divers and watch Joe fans drool!
Does the sea water wreak havoc on decals?

That is good to know. Never would've tried myself.
@@gijoburg Does a cleaning dip in a chlorinated pool hurt or help? Due to having chlorine?
Awesome! - much appreciated! - Audio needs to be normalized and EQ'd but other than that EPIC!
Still learning the tech, best believe I'm reading up on it now. Thanks for checking us out; and thanks for the comment!
Did your Shark 9000 have foam on the propeller shaft?
Wahay! Check out Eagle Eye here! Yes it does. I always found the back end slouched a little low in the surf. The whole thing starts taking on water and then she goes down with all hands. So jamming a little foam in that cavity helps keeping her afloat. Well-spotted!
Fine review, guys! Looks like six people got trashed by a COBRA Sea-ray! (BTW, have you guys reviewed the COBRA Moray yet?)
We have not Chris, many a good Moray review out there ahead of us but she does demand reviewing!
Yep my all time favorite vehicle. I own two
Favorite cobra vehicle that is

nice work man this is a cool vehicle
Shooting these really give us new appreciation, now we love the Sea Ray too!
GI Joburg despite the tiny flaws you mentioned I think it's really cool
well done as always!
Thanks Andrew!
Mach 2; I don't know if I'd survive that, much less not die of a heart attack from the terror ;-p
i wonder what a realistic, gritty, near-modern reboot would look like? Black hawk down with GI Joe and Cobra?
Ha! I tend more towards a Lego Movie type story myself!
great review guys. your videos are awesome.
Thanks Tim! We dig making 'em.
Is that Joburg JoBUTT at 5:40?? =O
Yeah. I gotta throw those swim shorts away. Light pink is a little too close to flesh tone... or maybe I just mooned you. Could be.
lol we may never know the truth @_@

GI Joburg anytime my fellow G I reviewer
Is the Sea Slug an individual or an army-builder?
I'm gonna say army builder. The filecard is written in the plural. And these guys are Cobra Eels in zooty new suits after all.
Look under something? Is it the Big W?
Wish i had a vacation near you, because i would bring my Killer Whale and Barracuda to play with you at that awesome beach, lol.
Nothing would make us happier! Big kids, all of us.
Thanks man, South Africa looks awesome btw.
I had the Searay and Sea Slug it was awesome
I wished I did when I was a kid! I'm making up for it now tho.
What the white boat the sea ray takes out
That would be the SHARK 9000, released in 1993 in the GI Joe Battle Corps series.
Thanks
What great water
great review!!!!
Thanks for letting us know you liked it!
Finally got one a few mos ago. Alas, the tabs are cracked like in the vid. Here's hoping I can find replacement parts! 😂🤣😭😮💨
Alternatively, no crime in keeping it all together as one vehicle. The split apart is solely to prevent fights among siblings on Xmas morning!
Hahaha big purple balls 😂😂
Sounds painful...
