Ed, Good info on the tester. I wanted to let you know I saw another review on this tester earlier in the week they did not did not mention anything about the surge protectors I give kudos to you for following up with a Klein tech to pass on that important information to us.
I liked it a lot. I forwarded it to my electrician friend. I know so many times when I would be with him at my home and I will be turning off different circuit breakers while he would yell back to be at a distance... “that’s it “
Great review of this one, especially the tip about unplugging a surge protector. I have three surge protectors in my house and that would have driven me crazy, IF I had not viewed this video to find this out.

It's been a while but I can remember most of the cheep circuit tracers were useless for finding circuits in large commercial buildings. Surge protectors, ups systems as well as other electronic devices on the circuit your tracing is kind of PITA with a cheep tracers. The ET310 is probably far improved over the older versions and the price is increasable. Thanks so much for sharing this great tool. 👍👍
Just bought this tool to find which outlet is assigned to which breaker as currently my breaker isn’t marked that great. Just subscribed and great simple video. Thanks.
That is a handy sniffer Ed! We had an electrician put in a new Main Panel in our last house and few of the circuits got misplaced or maybe he was just putting them in a better spot. This would have been a great solution to easily finding wich circuit the plug was on instead of flipping through each one of them! Great video as always and thank you for posting!

I used it on a 230 electric dryer 30 Amp outlet. The common to either ground is 120 volts but 230 from both hots.

One question...I have a whole bank of outlets that are dead out in my laundry room and garage. The dryer and furnace are fine but all the 120's are dead. No breaker is tripped and I even went thru and flipped all that I wasn't sure of just to be sure they were all on. Since there is no power at these outlets, would this circuit breaker finder be able to work so that I can at least see what breaker they are hooked to? (This includes my garage door, too. I will have to manually raise it to get the car out.) Anyway, just wondering. As you can tell, I don't know a lot about electric circuits and won't be messing with them but still want to know about the breakers. Thanks!
From what I understand, there needs to be power from the breaker to the outlet in order for this device to work properly. I’m no electrician, but I would start by looking for a faulty or tripped GFCI outlet. Laundry room, and garage outlets are often placed downstream from a GFCI outlet. Otherwise, you may need to call an electrician. Good luck! -Ed.
Would it make sense to use the clips accessory on a light switch terminals (have to pull switch out of the box but could just leave it all wired in). I suspect it wouldn't matter if the switch is in the "on" position...unless it is part of a three way configuration which would need the mating switch to be "on"...am I picturing that correctly? Another video?🙂

Looks like a very handy tool! You mentioned about unplugging any surge protectors but did the rep say anything about surge protectors that protect the whole panel ? In other words you can't unplug it because it's wired into the panel.
Interesting point. I don't know the answer to that. It's also not guaranteed that a surge protector will interfere. I should have said "some can or may interfere". Personally, I did not unplug my surge protectors. I called because I did get a false reading the first time I used it. However, it worked fine the next time and ever since then.
@@MyClutteredGarage I just tried one of these yesterday and it kept reacting to two different circuits. Now I think it must be one of the surge protectors I have on that other circuit, was thinking we had wiring issues or it was operator error. Do the circuit breaker finder works in conjunction with the Klein outlet tester? Does that mean that the tester is sends a signal to the breaker finder to allow it to find the correct breaker? I already have the outlet tester that I bought separately a couple of years ago. Can I buy the breaker finder by itself and will they work together? Thx
What if there is no power coming out of the outlet and all the circuit breakers are in the “ON” position. Not one one circuit breaker has been tripped “OFF”. Is the transmitter getting it’s power from the outlet or does the transmitter has it’s own power source to work.
@@MyClutteredGarage That's what I thought. No power to the transmitter, no signal going to the reciever. I had this problem in my circuit box. All the breakers were in the "ON" position but no power to some outlets. My neighbor came by and switched the breakers "ON" & "OFF" a couple of times which resulted in getting powert back to the outlet. In conclusion the end result was called "Reseeding the Contacts" or cleaning the contacts on the breakers by switching the breakers "ON" & "OFF"
All the videos I watch never said how far can it detect so can you please tell me how far can the Klein ET310 track, does it work on a 3 storie home? Thanks
Yes, it does! I have a 3 story home and just labeled my entire fuse box with this tool. Went a little overboard and created an Excel spreadsheet for all the breakers and what they connect to and taped it on the door. They don't give you much room on the label to write them all in
I recently purchased one because our house is wired very weirdly. Some switches on the panel cuts off the bathroom and the back room and the laundry room downstairs. My question is is some of the light switch’s are ran with one 14 or 12 romex wire and it runs a neutral and a hot and a ground and it seems that they didn’t properly label the neutral as a new hot wire. What Im getting at is sometimes the overhead light or fan will cut off on the breaker but the wire on the single pole switch or 3way is still hot. How would I go about connecting the wires from the light switch to locate that breaker switch if there is no neutral some switches in my house have a neutral but most don’t.
I’m sad that they didn’t release a new package with a digital gfci receptacle tester instead. I love that one that has voltage readings as well as batteries for hot ground reverse (?) That would be the ultimate troubleshooter except for 220v, 277v, or 347v
All of the outlets in my basement suddenly stopped working. The basement was refinished a few years ago, and I'm pretty sure they were all wired to the same breaker. The problem I have is none of the breakers in my panel are tripped, and I can't figure out which breaker these outlets are running to. I reset all the breakers making sure all were fully on and that didn't work. My guess is it's a bad breaker that just didn't trip. (Can that even happen?). How can I safely test the breakers in my panel to see if one is bad? Is there are certain type of meter I should use?
I don’t think this will find low voltage. But you don’t have to worry about getting shocked from a thermostat wire. You should, however, turn off your heater so that you don’t accidentally touch the wires together and turn it on.

Ahhhhh.....so¿ No need to switch off the power. Jelly good 💯
I got the case too which holds all three testers
Do the circuit breaker finder works in conjunction with the Klein outlet tester? Does that mean that the tester is sends a signal to the breaker finder to allow it to find the correct breaker? I already have the outlet tester that I bought separately a couple of years ago. Can I buy the breaker finder by itself and will they work together? Thx
Hi. That’s how it works but I think it only works with the included outlet tester. Thanks for watching.
can you use the yellow alien voltage tester.
This review was stellar. Thank you. What is the range limit of this unit? For example if I have an external GFCI can it sense it?
Thanks very much. I don’t know, but I would assume that since the signal is sent through the wires, there would be virtually no range limitation.
What if there is no power coming out of the outlet and all the circuit breakers are in the “ON” position. Not one one circuit breaker has been tripped “OFF”. Is the transmitter getting it’s power from the outlet or does the transmitter has it’s own power source to work.
Hi Mel. The tester needs power at the outlet to work. Might be time to call an electrician. Those guys have magical ways of fixing issues. 😄
In conclusion the end result was called "Reseeding the Contacts" or cleaning the contacts on the breakers by switching the breakers "ON" & "OFF"
Would this work in an rv on dc? Or only on
a/c. RVs are notorious for circuit problems.
I'd say on only 120v AC. Not sure if such a product exists for DC. Thanks for watching!
Handy tool Ed. We know you bought it because it's orange though. 😉
It does match well 🤣
All the videos I watch never said how far can it detect so can you please tell me how far can the Klein ET310 track, does it work on a 3 storie home? Thanks
I don’t know the answer, but since the signal travels through the wires, I would think that there’s almost no range limit. Thanks for watching.
Yes, it does! I have a 3 story home and just labeled my entire fuse box with this tool. Went a little overboard and created an Excel spreadsheet for all the breakers and what they connect to and taped it on the door. They don't give you much room on the label to write them all in
@@deb2531 love it!
Are you touching ALL breakers when in learning mode?
Yes
Hi. I’d have a local electrician take a look at this. Maybe they can give you some guidance going forward.
Nice.
how far away does it work ??? thank you
Hi James. I believe it sends a signal through the circuit so there should be no limit for distance. Thanks for watching. -Ed
Do they make this for a double pole breaker
I just love your intro music. How do you actually label the breaker? What are you using?
Thank you! I use a brother P-touch labeler. Here’s an affiliate link: amzn.to/3ZZ4b4L
I was wrong
I do not have one of those
I must get one
Will check out your link
Very well done Infomercial!
Thanks for sharing

Ha! Don't lose it, Phil!
Will this detect another outlet on the same circuit?
I find it it’s a very good tool you working with Romax, but it’s not good if you were in a commercial building with conduit pipe.
Good to know! Thank you.
I’m sad that they didn’t release a new package with a digital gfci receptacle tester instead. I love that one that has voltage readings as well as batteries for hot ground reverse (?)
That would be the ultimate troubleshooter except for 220v, 277v, or 347v
I have an older version of that tool.. My nickname for the tool is the Fox and Hound..
Does it work if the Socket doesn’t have power ?
Probably not. It Hass to travel through the wires. If the socket does not have power, then there’s probably something wrong with the wires.
What if you have a short somewhere and it's no power will I still be able to find the breaker
I don’t think so. There has to be power going through the circuit. You may need to call an electrician.
I’d call an electrician. They have magical ways to trace these things. Good luck!
I have fuses not cct breakers. Will this tool work on a fuse box scenario?
Hi. I’m not sure but I don’t think it would work with fuses. Thanks for watching.
Would this find low voltage? I’m looking to turn my thermostat off to replace it but it is low voltage.
I don’t think this will find low voltage. But you don’t have to worry about getting shocked from a thermostat wire. You should, however, turn off your heater so that you don’t accidentally touch the wires together and turn it on.
Would you upload the circuit breaker finder circuit diagram?
I’d suggest reaching out to Klein. Thank you.
