"We were devastated." Ann Arbor residents say local mining activities causing wells to dry up

I’m pretty shocked they are gonna fix the dry wells. The affected residents should be happy. Looks like a gravel pit not an aquifer. Sounds like the wells were shallow if they only had to go another 20 feet.

1 why does it matter how deep the wells are?
2 the wells could be hundreds of feet deep and they dropped them 20ft more
3 the quarry is pumping 2 million gallons a day its 100% the quarry fault and this is only a temp fix
