That's why these people are sentient beings! If they don't pray for selfish wishes, then they are saints, no longer sentient beings trapped in samsara. Life, though like a dream, is HARD! Give them a break! All sentient beings have the the right to happiness. Humans pray for money, health, good relationships because that's how they define happiness. Bodhisattvas want higher levels of realisation and ultimately Buddhahood because they think they would be in the best position to benefit others - that's their level of happiness. Most other religions pray to be with God and to go to heaven as their form of happiness. If we discriminate a higher level of happiness from lower level of happiness, that in itself is "unenlightened". Imagine we say Beethoven is better than local Chinese opera. Who the hell has the right to say that?! It's how we adjust to that very level and enjoy the beauty of that level of art - that's the enlightened view. If we keep thinking Beethoven belongs to high society and local Chinese opera are a art form, then clearly we have obstacles in our own psyche. That bias itself is not equanimity that Buddha taught. We have so much sufferings in the world because we are bias and discriminate others- oh what you wear is not as nice as mine(therefore I look down on you), what you have is what I lack(I am jealous), your religion is lower than mine(religious supremacy), etc. A bodhisattva vows to fulfil both the higher and lower needs of an individual. A bodhisattva is only relevant in relation to sentient beings. If there are no sentient beings(who are the beings who keep asking for all the mundane things), why is there a need for Buddhas and Bodhisattvas?
Can u tell then how manjushri prayer n other prayer such as medicinal prayer can be used for cure disease ??? Is it bz buddhisatvas verbal prayer have good merits to benifit us ?? I know prayer is used to become selfless n compassionate
Dharma Emperor Wudi, asked Bodhidharma how much gongde merit does he have, Bodhidharma said he had no merit what so ever. Merit doesn't mean sponsoring millions of temples, monks and nuns. Gongde means to obtain the realization of mind and nothing else.
Just remove I from yourself and see the magic. You will find out everyone in this world is connected with you and everything that's available here because of some reason. You will accept all beings as yours there will be no partiality between young,old,animals,plants etc

Prayers don't work when we have weak merits
You can never be too honest, hardest is to open up. People think about image too much and i cant say i dont relate.
