I worked hard my whole life and paid in taxes. Now im disabled and can't work and need medicaid. It's not something im proud of i never thought i would end up like this. I was never lazy, and i paid in taxes. Be thankful you can still work, and not all of us just want a handout.
Your healthcare is a basic human right. Every other country on the planet recognises that it is a responsibility of government as basic as the defence of the nation. Health access and the quality of care based on the ability to pay is unfair and immoral. I wish you all the best with your health issues.
I’m like you 58 years old was a trucker 24 years been off the road 10 years due to my leg amputation otherwise I’d still be working I planned on trucking until I was 65 but diabetes had a different idea!
You missed it...able bodied, not true disabled. You know as well as I do, people have been labeled "disabled" for things as silly as a broken finger. They are able to work. There's need to be stricter guidelines to determine disability requirements. If you're truly disabled that's one thing.
@@carltonurwin3923
No, not every country offers that. And second of all, the countries that do have homogenous demographics. And guess what? They are failing now because of the influx like the US has been experiencing for so long, making their demographics heterogeneous instead. You can’t have both healthcare available for all AND heterogeneous demographics. It isn’t affordable.

That was bad diet decisions that caused that. Someone isn’t very bright to have eaten like that.
Welfare and free housing should have time limits for people able to work

Back in my day, 1971 you had 100% healthcare at no cost from the company you work for. Greedy companies, and greedy insurance companies. Have changed everything.
Employers began offering health insurance as a benefit to attract and retain workers, not because it was mandatory.
1992, Oregon, my employer paid 100% for me and 90% for my dependents. And it was good insurance.
@ My mother was working for a Defense contractor, had John Hancock. The insurance was a godsend when I broke my neck age 17.
1971? Not in Arkansas. Try again.
In those days you had more working than slacking so medical costs were lower
Classic tactic to keep poor people looking at eachother and not up, at those profiting from these systems. Wake up!
When my son was told that my autistic grandson was able to get money from the state we live is he said no thank you my son is able to work. My grandson that they offered that money to keeps a bank balance of over $20,000 and pays cash for everything. He works two jobs, lives on his own and takes pride in himself.

It most civilised countries there is universal healthcare. Arkansas is ranked 39 for healthcare & 32 for education. Maybe she should be working on improving those rather than demonising the unemployed.
If that's what you heard you weren't listening. Universal healthcare is not the answer. A lot of people have had to wait months and years to see specialists so they come to the US. It's also not the answer because you're not entitled to or owed someone else's labor and skills. People in the medical field need specialized training and you don't get to have that for "free."
@@iceeironysounds like a response from a 3rd world country. But on most quality of life stats the US is a 3rd world country. The only statistic that qualifies you as 1st world is your military.
Maybe if people didn’t take advantage of the system, this wouldn’t be an issue. I remember when being on welfare was an embarrassment, now it’s a lifestyle.. Time to clean it out. No reason for able bodies to not work until retirement.
@@iceeironyThat has more to do with how the healthcare is structured. England runs a neo-liberalistic profile due to Thatcherism. Nordic countries, however, have way better stats when it comes to health and well-being than America could ever hope to have on its best day. This country constantly ranks at the bottom for well-being, infant and maternal mortality, chronic illness/disease, etc. And for the record, I live in the midwest. My parents wait months to get into see doctors. My dad has waited like 3 months just for a stress test. He can’t breath by the way. We have one community dental clinic here that will be down to one dentist in Spring with a 700 person wait list. We live in a near medical desert and we are not some rural area either. We lost our hospital 2 years go and don’t even have an ER anymore. Specialists are often a two hour drive ONE WAY. People in this country can go broke even with insurance. Your comments are nothing more than thoughtless Republican propaganda talking points I grew up with for years. Republicans have only made the system worse. Now private companies are running Medicaid and Medicare as part of the neo-liberal economic bullcrap and they repeatedly get their hands caught in the til for fraud but who cares! When healthcare is about money and not well being we lose. And for the record, our health care system is in the top three of leading causes of deaths for Americans and all you can talk about is how you think universal healthcare is about being entitled. Private insurance companies tell doctors what they will get paid which inflates medical prices. Apparently your private insurance company thinks it is entitled to both my money and healthcare provider’s money for its own bottom line. Apparently they also think they have the right to tell people whether they get to live or die even if they pay for insurance coverage. United Healthcare is known for this behavior. I guess people are not “entitled to live” if they can’t afford too. At the bottom line, that IS your belief! Clearly for profit healthcare is not the answer EITHER!

These companies CAN find employees they DON'T PAY ENOUGH no matter the state tou live in.
That's true. Sometimes a company will lay off a employee who has worked for that company for quite a few years. That person is in a high range income bracket. Then they will hire another person
to do that same job as the person they laid off for lower pay. I have seen that at a company that I once worked for. These companies want good employees but don't wan't to pay them a decent salary.
Why don't you go give a speech to the health insurance providers and the medical industry and ask them how much profits they are making and ask them to lower the cost? Im sure the cost of Healthcare would be half as much if the people and the government were not getting ripped off by these folks. Nooo, just make people work harder to make the rich richer.
Exactly.
Yes, also lecture the real villains here - the corporations running hospitals. More interested in profits for stockholders than lowering costs to help save states those billions of dollars. Sick people just want to be well; they don't charge medicaid 5 bucks for a tylenol.
They will have no choice to lower prices when no one can afford to take off their job to get their supplemental income. Or there will be a whole lot of people who find themselves without jobs altogether because no one can afford to do anything but eat, sleep, and go home. I guess this is a good way to discourage people from reproducing at least. 😅
Right. They are always messing with the people. Go talk to the insurance companies and congress.
Will you guys quit whipping the strawman. Prices are high in part to medical providers having sky high malpractice insurance premiums. Hospitals have to charge high prices to cover the cost of treating uninsured patients. The legal industry likes to sue doctors, nurses and hospitals. Many people would rather take a pill than eat healthy, exercise or play around with drugs.
This is good. Now tackle the prices of insurance and healthcare.
I believe Trump called for all medical service providers to publicly post their rates. This encourages COMPETITION and COMPETENCE! ❤
Absolutely 😮
Let's not forget the drug companies. Because of one of my autoimmune diseases I am on a injection that I take every 12 weeks. The last I checked that injection was 22,000 per injection
Nope. They won't do anything to reduce costs. They are only concerned with kicking people off benefits.
Price controls are socialist in nature and have unforeseen circumstances. Typically it drives competition out of the market and requires the state to subsidize. Horrible idea
What about adults caring for aging parents or disabled loved ones!?
Great point!
More and more companies will not hire older workers because they say it cost them more on their insurance to employ older works. This is the real issue. It has nothing to do with people who don't want to work it's companies that won't hire older workers! This is not about health care insurance. Companies are looking at liability insurance on workers. Most companies will offer you health insurance, but the premiums are dected from your check, and companies pay less than 20%, and more and more cases, your ductable is higher with newer policies..
Thank you, that’s the truth
Or can have old people work part time only full time receive healthcare
This will change as the youngest generation feels entitled and don't want to work. They will have no choice but to hire older generations.
@kathydaniels-johnston5464 : That all sounds well and good. Employers are less concerned with younger employees as they feel they are expendable to begin with. A perfect example; A recent project I was on. I was hired to complete a warehouse with new fiber optic cabling. As soon as the HR department found out I was 69, I was called into the office and told my services were no longer required. I spoke to the onset supervisor, and he said it was because they couldn't take the liability. They ended up hiding a 20 something that knew nothing about pulling fiber and damaged a lot of cable. All was good because he was cheap labor and it only cost the company an extra $26K to fix all the damaged cable, the lost time, and the lost contract. They saved money on their insurance!
I agree
Every Single State NEEDS to adopt this. As a 55 yr old citizen who has worked since 16 yrs of age, I am sick of paying for every lazy person who takes advantage.
Yes, however, most of these free loaders will just move to another state. They are probably looking online right now for states with free loader benefits.
How many lazy people do you know.? Those I know that receive this are elderly in care facilities, or sick, significantly disabled, cancer treatment.

I’m also happy she said “must be at home taking care of children” if a parent decides to sacrifice their job/career to take care of their children they shouldn’t be forced into work just for health insurance
You should be ashamed for slacking those two years from age 14 - 16!
The problem for people on medicaid is if they try to work they lose the medical care that may in fact allow them to work at all, most entry level jobs and many more do not have any health insurance at all or employers limit their hours to 38 or less so they will never qualify for the benefits of full time or will the employer ever have to pay for them. This is the real world designed by your government.
That's true, and something that should be changed. The working poor in America qualify for nothing while the non-working get it all handed to them for zero cost.
And The deductibles are ridiculous!

We also need to end the quid pro quo that seems to be in place between pharmaceutical companies and whoever sets pay guidelines for Medicaid. My wife is on Adderall(not necessarily the brand name) for ADD. Before we were on medicaid, we were paying $63/mo out of pocket for it. Now we're temporarily on medicaid, and just checked the pharmacy receipt, and the price Medicaid pays is $3,069.00/mo. Somebody between A and Z is getting a kickback, and that seems unethical to me.
and it's always cheaper, more potent/effective medication (you can take less of the same medication if you buy it elsewhere because it's more potent/effective for other citizen populations outside the USA). It's so much cheaper to actually fly RT to mexico from UT and buy it from a SA pharmacy. States like UT actually pay for this expense for their patients (i.e. flying citizens to purchase meds in another country directly) because it's so much cheaper than what Americans pay. America's R&D programs paid for in grants by taxpayers, America's innovation paid for in taxpayer funded subsidies and the corporations who profit will mfr abroad giving jobs to CcP, India and Mexico so American's pay absurd prices over any other nation for the same or lesser potency drug.

The unfortunate thing is that most businesses don't offer benefits unless your full time and they are required to(more than 50 employees). We need to stop tying insurance benefits to a job and allow people to change jobs while being covered.
I agree with you completely Insurance should not be tied to a job to where you have to change doctors etc when you change jobs. It should be that you choose a plan and your employer will pay their part to the plan you choose.
Yes this is very true! We should see every single penny on our checks
Yes, people jump on a bandwagon without thinking it through. There are many people desperate for a job, and we’re going to penalize them? As a teacher, pay $1200 for healthcare for my family monthly and take home pay is $3200. I still have to meet deductibles. Our healthcare system is exploitative and corrupt.

Free and subsidized housing needs to be overhauled as well!!!!
Yes. I receive subsidized housing as a disabled person. It took me 12 yrs to get it. And they need to put caps on fair market value. They are now charging me (thanks Biden and Healey in the blue state of MA) $1000 more than 2 yrs ago. When there's more government assistance in an area the process of everything goes up!!! Because the state takes the bill. We can't survive anymore. 2.5% ssdi increase this yr but everything went up hundreds of dollars. Thank God for trump
A lot of new apartment places will not take needy families in unless they have three months of rent upfront, and with todays market that is hard to achieve when you are living paycheck to paycheck. Please remember to be merciful to people. We dont always understand every side of their struggle
You think these people will lower rents? What a joke.
I see this from the other side and believe me a lot of these people are taking advantage of the system. I see people on rent subsidies who have 3 kids in private school and drive Escalades. It’s disgusting all the corrupt people who make it bad for those that truly need the help. These programs need constant checks and managing so that they catch this gaming the system.

It depends what job. I swear when I had to work at Burger King a decade ago, I couldn't afford health insurance, car insurance, anywhere to live (no family or many friends at the time). That certainly did not make me proud, and it made me feel like I was only worth pennies while everyone else is worth much more. That being said, I ended up leaving that job when I couldn't afford college anymore and got a better job. I'm doing well and have a family now. Although I can say that it all depends on someone's situation. If you only gain money from a low wage job, then keep grinding. DO NOT LET YOURSELF STAY STAGNANT.

People who are anxious and/or depressed should not be recieving disability benefits.
Insurance companies are supposed to make a profit to pay their workers and pay out for the needed assistance. I do agree that there should be some internal investigation into their methods and book-keeping.
They voted for this. Check the election map
Both insurance companies and people claiming they cannot work must be held accountable. No person should get disability for a diagnosis of depression or anxiety. Same with any addiction.

How many people who have never even thought about applying for assistance have a job that they can count on in the deep south and in Arkansas with affordable benefits that pay affordable living wages? Are these going to be the things implemented so that these people can have jobs to go and apply? Are the wages going to be enough to cover their insurance rent car note cell phone take care of their kids and buy groceries? People receiving government assistance need to have it suspended immediately and permanently if they commit crimes. Stealing, driving around without a driver's license, car insurance , registration, personal domestic violence, and problems within the family that requires police intervention. Responsible citizens are fed up with their money going to irresponsible people.
Checks and balances....as it used to be. Welfare it's NOT a career!!
Did granny beat you to the last box of donuts?
You can't get public assistance with a criminal record.
Has it occurred to you that just possibly the reason people receiving assistance might steal or go without insurance is because the amount of the “assistance” is so little that they can’t afford the insurance and they don’t have subsidized housing so they are either paying full rent or they have to have roommates or they are forced to stay in less than ideal circumstances/relationships ie domestic violence situations because they don’t have enough income to afford to move out on their own?
Food stamps average approximately $1/ person per meal! Try making that stretch a whole month feeding a family of hungry kids! And if you have any kind of work income they will cut that back so fast! We need to have a better transition between assistance and self sufficiency. A sliding scale that doesn’t penalize people for getting a job, but rather helps them to start saving up a nest egg before cutting their benefits so that when they reach a certain point and they are established in their job, they have a cushion to fall back on in case of emergency. We also should have no interest loans for working people who need money to handle a crisis like a car repair or unexpected medical expenses so that they can avoid situations that can quickly snowball into major crises. And nobody who makes under $200,000 should pay more than 30% of their income for rent!
