    I have the more recent tracktech boots - a few issues:
    The hinge covers on the updated design fell off ages ago.
    The front left toe slider frequently comes loose - and makes lots of noise when walking even when tight.
    The inner sole has completely disintegrated.
    And worst of all, and this is the most conerning issue - the zipper cover or the hinge, I am not sure which - get caught on my left side heel plate on my bonamici rearsets, which have quite a sharp heel plate. My (new to me) zx10r came with these rearsets and its incredibly unnerving to ride a 1000 for the first time and find you cant take your foot off when you want to get some rear brake, or push your knee out, or even put your foot down when coming to a stop.
    Im not sure what boots I will get next, but im glad I am not the only one with this issue.

      It’s a shame they haven’t sorted these issues 👎🏻
      I can’t reset the Sidi boots enough, yes they’re fairly expensive but I’d of likely been through a few pairs of cheap boots in this time.
      The toe vents really are incredible on hot days. I need to replace my right toe vent/slider as it’s seen the track quite a few times!
      I have crash tested the boots on quite a few occasions and they have really done the job well. I will be replacing them fairly soon as my aggressive pegs have started to turn a patch of the soles onto slicks, which has raised a few scrutineers eyebrows!
      I might do a follow up video on this, 3 years on - just how well they’ve held up from some fairly serious abuse 😂

    Funny that , I had a pair of RST’s a few years ago , and pretty much everything you said happened to mine as well ,
    I ended up binning them and went to sidi as well , 2yrs riding in those so far and no problems at all
    Very comfy and very happy with them , even got them from sportsbikeshop as well :) 👍

    I have RST boots but can't wear them anymore. Every time I wore them, within about 5 minutes I was developing a lot of ankle pain. Only from the left boot. I thought maybe the boots needed to break in at first but after multiple rides they never got any better and I would have a bruised ankle for a few days after a ride. I believe there must have been a flaw in that one boot because it did look "twisted" compared to the other boot.

      That’s a shame! Did you try contacting RST about it?

    Had some alpinestars smx+ boots and they have a multi lock heal system that also catches on the heal guards. Just bought some alpinestars super tech r

    The EVO3 zip/velcro was modified, but the change contains flaws. Firstly, there is potential on some machines for the foot peg to become wedged under the Velcro flap when lowering the side stand. Secondly, there also potential for the foot peg to become wedged under the lateral brace when lowering the side stand. When it first happened, I thought I had been careless and very nearly dropped the bike (Ducati 950SSS). The issues only become apparent once the boot has softened after a month or two of wear. This problem may only occur on certain bikes, but none the less the potential for an incident exists. The EVO 3s which had very little wear have been binned, and despite further cost (another) new pair of boots purchased as the likely hood of getting hurt is not worth the risk

    • @UnrestrictedIsle
      @UnrestrictedIsle  2 роки тому

      Even a slight snag could cause the bike to be dropped and damaged - just not worth it at all.
      What did you go with for a replacement? 😁

    • @mrt6301
      @mrt6301 2 роки тому

      My previous boots before the EVO's had not been a problem on the same bike or any other bike. A couple of pals also tried my Evo's and had the same problem. I spent a day visiting several shops in the southeast to try as many different types as possible to ensure I didn't encounter the same problem. In the end I went for Astars SMX6-V2 which I've been very happy with. I seriously considered the SMX plus, but the ratchet buckle put me off.

    What's the story of the head gasket on the wall?

    • @UnrestrictedIsle
      @UnrestrictedIsle  4 роки тому +2

      It was from my beloved E36 BMW - not much of a story to it I’m afraid, it just looks interesting to people that don’t know it’s a HG

    Can these be used for commuting also? I can get a pair for $300 USD.

  • @Os.-

    As it happens, I own both those RST boots.
    The first pair have been pretty solid though mostly with textiles. Not had the zip issue though that's maybe down to the legs being outside and holding the tops closed? Not had any issue with the few times in leathers. Could just be people with big calves too :)
    The side plastic part never caught in the heel guard and I've worn them out pretty much and no issues.
    On to the Evo3s then - the new plastic side supports caught a few times in the heel guards, so I swapped the guards round and it's definitely less of a thing now.
    The zip tag on the Evo3 is also velcro now, so you can just stick it to the velco calf section and it all holds together, no zip dropping possible.
    Had these on a track day and worked well enough though feel a bit more solid (or provide less feedback, take your pick).

    • @UnrestrictedIsle
      @UnrestrictedIsle  4 роки тому

      That’s a nice little solution with the Velcro zip tag! Shame about the plastic guards catching - hopefully it’ll be impossible on the next generation. RE the Velcro, maybe my calves are just cows 🐮 😂😅

    • @Os.-
      @Os.- 4 роки тому

      I'll let you know if swapping the guards and using proper foot positioning works after the next track day, meantime will see how you get on with the Sidis. I'd seen them but to be honest thought the ratchet closure was a bit gimmicky and would fail, time will tell :)

    • @UnrestrictedIsle
      @UnrestrictedIsle  4 роки тому +1

      Os I thought it was an odd closure system - but have a lot of time put into Rosenbauer Twister boots that have a similar system. Yeah please let me know, would be interested to see what the outcome is

    I don’t have those, but I do have RST boots. The Velcro and zip are exactly the same. Terrible. Sole does come out sometimes too! So, I am actually looking at new boots as I’m watching! 😅

    Those RST boots look a bit shocking, the Zip coming down and potentially coming off in an accident, might as well use flip flops!!
    The Sidi's look great and a far better product for the job in hand. Love the toe vents, nice in Thailand!!!!

    That is really bad, I get boots don't last forever, but my current boots have lasted me around 7 years and other than being dirty, are as good as new, been used all seasons on road and track. You get what you pay for I guess.
    Ooo toe vents... that is cool (literally), I use Daytona boots, they are a bit warm in the peak of summer, that vent could be nice

    • @UnrestrictedIsle
      @UnrestrictedIsle  4 роки тому +1

      Heard a lot of good things about Daytona too - some crazy price tags on their two part boots! Buy cheap buy twice eh!

    • @HippoDrones
      @HippoDrones 4 роки тому

      @@UnrestrictedIsle 7 years suggests you get what you pay for. I really could do with some more track focussed boots though, as the Daytonas are a bit warm for trackdays

    I broke my toe and severely sprained my ankle in those rst boots, very minimal protection 😅

    • @UnrestrictedIsle
      @UnrestrictedIsle  Рік тому

      The only real upside is the price point…
      I’ve since crash tested the Sidi’s a few times and they’ve help up well. Although I did break my big toe at Anglesey after a highside - probably from kicking the inside of the boot
