    (please note: unfortunately "The Best Of Roy Clark" album does not include either "Alabama Jubilee" or "Flop Eared Mule")
    Roy Clark performs "Alabama Jubilee" and immediately follows with "Flop Eared Mule".
    Porter, Dolly, and the audience all watch as he playfully sets out to prove he'll not be outdone on the guitar. Turns out, he never is.

      Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Joe Maphis, Roy Clark, Danny Gatton, Roy Acuff... All talented. I'm not as familiar with Acuff's music, I don't think he was as guitar-based, but I enjoyed what I heard of him.

      @@tonytotten408 chet atkins was a very clean player as he would play a song perfectly as to how it was written but roy clark would play the living soul of a song and take it to where it never had been seen before. The best example of this is the difference in between the videos of Chet atkins playing Malaguena and when Roy Clark played Malaguena.

      Kevin Doran Eric Clapton couldn't hold a candle to Roy Clark. I grew up listening to Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Buck Trent, and Buck Owens. Thank God my dad liked these musical heroes and exposed me to them. I always get a good feeling and a smile when I watch Roy Clark play. About a year ago I watched a Roy Clark special with Buck Trent and several others. Roy was losing his ability to play for some reason. Maybe arthritis with old age, not sure. Whatever it was it made me feel really bad for him. It was really sad to see him struggling with something he's played a million times and could play with one hand tied down. He will always be amazing to me.

      I feel very bad for Roy as I saw a documentary on him from last year, finding how he is getting on these days, and it showed that he cannot play very well any more, and I could tell he misses being able to play with the dexterity that he shows here, I'm just pleased we all, and he, himself have this to watch in the future. Bless you Roy, a bona fide legend of this, (and many others) instrument.

Roy was told by Garland in 1956 that he and Billy got Gibson to make their new guitar and it close to your Gibson 225 and might like one. In 1957 when the Birdland came out ...Roy said he was outside the Guitar shop waiting for it to open with the Stub in hand that assured him a Birdland .

      Sheldon Miller , but were they?

    • @SheldonBeldon
      @SheldonBeldon 5 років тому +1

      I don’t know, lots of musicians are, they could have been. I’m a pianist and my best teacher was gay, my boss is gay, and a lot of the best pianists I know are either gay or Jewish. I was just pointing out the fact that back in the day lots of male performers wore super gaudy loud clothing and it was simply viewed as part of the entertainment factor, and people nowadays don’t wear those kinds of clothes as often- and it’s too bad because a sequined suit is ridiculous and amazing.

    • @russellmcnamara1645
      @russellmcnamara1645 5 років тому +1

      Sheldon Miller , I know that's why I was wondering why you brought it up. and now you say gay or jewish, which is even better.

    • @SheldonBeldon
      @SheldonBeldon 5 років тому +1

      I am not sure what your point is or what you’re trying to get at. I shouldn’t have to explain this because it’s implied,. Gay men stereotypically wear clothing that is a bit more colorful or attention-grabbing. The host was wearing a suit completely studded with sequins in a loud color, and in his day he would not be called gay for his fashion choice, while nowadays people would judge someone for wearing that type of clothing.
      I brought up Jews because they are another minority like gay people who make up a very large percentage of professional artists.
      It was a simple comment I made, it was just a harmless observation so again, I’m not sure what you’re getting at.
