These proper country musicians were so inventive and the sound is absolutely flawless and clean. Incredible stuff. Deserves it's place in history. Never to be forgotten
Im from Nashville and grew up with country music, not really my thing , but I dare say Roy Clarke is the Eddie Van halen of country music!!!! absolutely!!!
Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Joe Maphis, Roy Clark, Danny Gatton, Roy Acuff... All talented. I'm not as familiar with Acuff's music, I don't think he was as guitar-based, but I enjoyed what I heard of him.
@@tonytotten408 chet atkins was a very clean player as he would play a song perfectly as to how it was written but roy clark would play the living soul of a song and take it to where it never had been seen before. The best example of this is the difference in between the videos of Chet atkins playing Malaguena and when Roy Clark played Malaguena.
I saw an article of the best 100 guitar players and Roy wasn't even mentioned. My only guess is that when your better than the best it only goes without saying,.
I"d bet that less than 5 were better than Roy and that less then 5 had as much fun. to some extent beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'd bet that 5-10 of the 100 died young because they were some kind of crazy, not Roy
what's funny is that the guitar feed you're hearing is the live feed- meaning that's what's plugged directly into the board and that you can hear every imperfection, because there's no reverb or other sound from the band to muddle it. He is still perfect and absolutely killing it. RIP bro.
RIP Roy Clark. One of my PawPaw's favorites. He (my PawPaw) passed in 2015. Unfortunately I just got into Clark. I didn't realize what a master he was at the guitar because I was never into country music. But if you have not seen Roy Clark play on old t.v. show The Odd Couple, CHECK IT OUT. It is awesome.
I like Roy Clark. I think he can play just about every string instrument. I saw him in a television interview, and he was stating all the instruments he was proficient at. He then started to demonstrate right there, in front of a live audience. It was amazing, I was thoroughly impressed!
When your the best and have such a beautiful light, you don't need anything else. Makes me laugh with amazement like when I was a kid. World needs more light.
I always liked Roy Clark. A fantastic guitarist and a funny guy. He seems like he always has fun. He played, "Yesterday, When I Was Young" at Mickey Mantle's funeral & it brought a tear to everyone's eye.
What a cool guitar! A custom order Birdland with a Charlie Christian PU up front with a P-90 in the back! Yeah, gotta wonder who's got this guitar nowadays?
Roy Clake was talented beyond measure an a Master of the guitar, Another legend gone. Love and peace to your family, kids! You were the best! Thank you very much! 🎸 Update 11/17/2018🎸 R .I. P 11-15-18
I never liked country music either, but my late uncle was a Roy Clark fan so watching his videos reminds me of him. I think it's too bad Roy wasn't a rock guitarist because he's every bit as good as Clapton and Hendrix.
Mesmerizing is how I feel watching Roy Clark play. I never could see how his fingers were so fast on the frets, yet accurately playing clear notes and chords
My parents saw him in Las Vegas in the early 1970's. My dad said he played guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin and put on an amazing 2 hour show. My mom still talks about it today. I think they paid $20 each for a full dinner/drinks/show.
Glen Campbell did t.v. show in the 70s where him and George Benson traded licks throughout the entire instrumental. Glen Campbell was doing 2 octave runs at amazing speed.when he was approached by a record company he told them he was a rocker and they said not with that twang in your voice your not. So he became a huge country singer and player. YT has a few videos of him playing instrumentals. Roy Clark instrumentals were the highlight of Saturday night for me as a kid because I hated the country music that was on all Saturday night.
Just so you know, this cut was on Roy's album, " The Roy Clark Guitar Spectacular", and was listed as "Racing the mule". When I was a kid, I thought Roy Clark was God. What a picker!
Rolling stone magazine? I"m sure they are a money making rag and have no concept of actually measuring excellence or even popularity. Roy was One of the Greatest ever and the best of his style.
What a great vid--and a great collection! I just subscribed to you, based on your collection of Jerry Lee Lewis on Grand Ole Opry. Then I found all your other great stuff! Thanks for your excellent selections!
Buck Owens was a fantastic musician also. He can go from guitar to Banjo and play great. Neither of these guys made the list of Rolling Stones top 250 guitarists.
When teen guitarists my age many years ago were paying attention to Eric Clapton and the like, I was watching Roy and Glen because they just have marvelous technique. I went on to have a decent career as a guitarist that I would not have had without learning from these two. Thanks Roy and Glen! And thanks for posting Ray! I couldn't agree more! Sad to hear about Glens health though darn it...
Kevin Doran Eric Clapton couldn't hold a candle to Roy Clark. I grew up listening to Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Buck Trent, and Buck Owens. Thank God my dad liked these musical heroes and exposed me to them. I always get a good feeling and a smile when I watch Roy Clark play. About a year ago I watched a Roy Clark special with Buck Trent and several others. Roy was losing his ability to play for some reason. Maybe arthritis with old age, not sure. Whatever it was it made me feel really bad for him. It was really sad to see him struggling with something he's played a million times and could play with one hand tied down. He will always be amazing to me.

Buck Trent, was *particularly* impressed when Roy, in the middle of his solo played the rhythmic noting/comping part starting at 1:04, as well no doubt we all were/are! I feel very bad for Roy as I saw a documentary on him from last year, finding how he is getting on these days, and it showed that he cannot play very well any more, and I could tell he misses being able to play with the dexterity that he shows here, I'm just pleased we all, and he, himself have this to watch in the future. Bless you Roy, a bona fide legend of this, (and many others) instrument.
He smoked the banjo player because he was a fantastic banjo player himself but he played all that just using a flat pick so thumb and finger .banjo players have an advantage an extra two fingers to inter pluck the strings ...what a fantastic player I wouldn't say he's the best in the world .he's one of thee best and should undoubtably be remembered in the hall of fame he was also a great comedian ..he haw he haw..u could tell in them days they were plugged straight into the recording TVs sound board no reverb and a stick on bugg microphone on the banjo skin the pick up nowadays Is fitted inside the Drum skin how technology moves forward 👌👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🏴🇺🇸🥃

There's something about it that actually weirdly reminds me of Zakk Wylde (old comment I know, reddit linked this video recently).
Funny you say that because he was Van Halen’s guitar teacher!
By far the worlds best guitar player ever.
Chet Atkins was the world's greatest guitarist Roy was the world's greatest entertainer he was comederdian /guitarist really funny guy 👌👍
@@tonytotten408 agreed
@@tonytotten408 I'll take Clark, Campbell and Gatton over Atkins. But that's about it.

Best Guitar Player Ever. Miss you.
Friend had one of Roy's LIVE Albums. We wore that sucker out.lol I was 15 ...just turned 68. Been a fan all those years. THANKS ROY
Buck Owens and Roy Clark weren't just those guys on Hee Haw, they were genuine big country stars and huge talents.
Christopher Taylor True, but I still love Hee Haw. I always have to smile when I watch Roy Clark.
Roy Clarke was a string instrument god! Waaaaay under appreciated!!!

Primarily because RC was country-oriented, the list was rock-oriented.

There is only one Roy Clark. Legend has it that he never had a music lesson! Genius. Karl

Roy Clark is one of my top ten favorite musicians, and he'll always be up there. I'm in absolute awe whenever I watch him play.
WAYYYY underrated guitarist!
Roy Clark was phenomenal at playing anything with a string...guitar, banjo, fiddle, violin, etc...
rip Mr. Clark. them fingers deserve to rest. and thank you

Not just one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but a true entertainer.
When you see a child playing air guitar you know the guitarist is gooood. What a cute kid.
Yes 🌷🌷
That kid grew up to be John 5

listed as the greatest guitar player who ever lived
And I don't think there will ever be anybody that can pick like that.
Total beast. Listening to Roy Clark never gets old.
One of the best players ever! Man he could play. RIP
One helluva showman....and I HATE country music....but I could watch Roy all day.

Would have loved to see Roy and Jerry Reed on the same stage.

They may have been on Hee - Haw, but their talents were NO JOKE! Amazing!
IIRC, filming a season of Hee Haw was a once a year, week-long gig, then all the performers did other shows and appearances.
Love the bonus. First time I've ever seen what happened after Alabama Jubily.
many blessings, Kimmy
I always wondered who the best guitar player in history was and I guess now I know!
I like how Roy did that fade away step dance knowing that his friend had a sweet nice banjo lick for the crowd. Sharing that spotlight
Uncomparable Unparalleled & All-time Legend They're not Born Again!!!
Truly a master.
Such talent. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fab show as a 5 and 6 year old at grandmother's.
He is soooo good
back in the days when it was just the performer and their instrument. no choreographed dancing and lip syncing here.
Tell it like it is!
The people they let on TV nowadays are NOT remotely close to being as talented as buck Trent or Roy clark.no where near
天才です。
Wow! Porter Waggoner from many days gone by.
Thank you, Porter for giving Buck Trent a break. His relationship with Roy lasted for a long time. Karl

Has Roy ever won "Instrumentalist of the year" by Country Music's Acadamy? I would say, he and Jerry Reed were by far the biggest pickers....
