- In a dystopian world populated by animated wine glasses, a timid character tries to escape an important rite of passage. When he disrupts the standard pouring ritual, he discovers that individuality comes with a price. Pour 585 is a cautionary tale about the dangers of conformity that uses metaphor to illustrate the process of indoctrination. "Pour 585" has qualified for entry into the Oscar's short animated film category.

To me, the first process represents a certain idea that a society believes and teaches its children. One day, someone comes along who rejects this idea, no matter how much it is forced on him. He grows in knowledge and that knowledge surpasses even his society’s brightest teachers until he discovers ideas that disproves the ones initially believed to be true by society. Once he has true knowledge , he passes it on to the next generation
this was exactly the original concept of the film.. then I went a bit dark to represent how power corrupts the individual. thx for the comment!

I think the message is that people can try to force you to do or to believe something you don’t have the same thoughts on, but you have the liberty to do or to think whatever you want, as long as you don’t damage other people or yourself.

I think the WINE represents KNOWLEDGE being passed out by other people or WINE GLASSES and the different wine glass refuses to accept on what was given to others and become one of them but he has been forced to.

it was originally just a story about breaking a cycle.. your typical "rebel breaks the wheel" type thing. but then it evolved into exposing the results of forced fed ideologies (ideology represented by the liquid), exploring the vicious nature of power over others, as well as the transformative effect of gaining that power.

My interpretation:
In an Orwellian world, the person who tries to question the existing ideology faces immense resistance. It is too late until he is successful. The previous notion of 'power' comprising 'tyranny' already gets well-etched in his mind. So, when he comes to power, he rules in the same way as the previous ruler because he doesn't know any other way. It is just like in Orwell's Animal Farm, the Pigs rule just like Humans; so essentially there is no change in the social reality, though it may appear from the outside.

Life is a never ending cycle of indoctrination, some good, some bad, either way its bound to happen and we as a society have to agree that that is how it will be. As unfortunate as it is currently there are alot of child predators out there, and hopefully we return to how things were.

Personally I think this is a lesson in owning your principles no matter the circumstances. In the beginning he (at least subconsciously) knew it was wrong, then when he was forced to, his anger surpassed the emotions of anyone else which caused him to be more influential (think of dictators as an example) as represented by him growing bigger. After he gave in to his anger he forgot why he was hesitant in the first place and took his emotions out on the people around him, making them comply to his wishes which is ironic because deep down it probably isn't what he wants, he just doesn't realize it and maybe it's too late for him to realize it. That's my take on it at least, and I think it is excellently done

I’m not sure about the meaning but all I can think about it how you can change the power/leadership. For example teachers fill us with knowledge just to have us grow into another number in society. The idea that an ideology (religious, political, ect), passed to the wrong person, can grow out of control. Take what once was and overtake it. Make it their own creation and not lose any of the dangers.
I am much better speaking to the creative side. Which is great. The style is rough and simple but it fits the tone so well. And, personally, its my favorite type of animation. The storytelling is awesome despite the metaphorical visuals too. The sound and color design back it up perfectly.

I'm gonna be honest. This just kind of looks like the character became the thing he was afraid of in the beginning. Like some kid who was questioning the big book in sunday school, and then grows up to be a bigger preacher than the reverend who taught him. If the cautionary part is not to accidentally fall into line again, then I suppose this works. I just feel it would have been more symbolic of rebellion if the main glass had tossed away the chalk and chose another beverage or something. To me, breaking trend would be cutting out of line and choosing something outside the norm, even against the scrutiny of others.
It's more than that I'd nevr share what I truly think especially when it comes these thinks cuz I don't want them to murder me and call if a suicide
i think its about how often times when a big rebellion or something does happen that more often then not the new powers that replace the old are more or less the same as the ones replaced. there are some exceptions, namely the rebellions that actually deserved to happen, but mostly everything goes back to more or less the same after such a thing just with a new chucklefuck in charge

Even through the animation is 3 yrs old and the way of his animating changed it's still such an amazing animation
I can’t even tell if their mad. I don’t really get it, or understand. Either way, I really liked it even though I didn’t understand it. It’s one of those things that you don’t get but it is very interesting. Glad I took the time to watch it.

The use of numbers is referring to how they expect cookie cutter models rather than unique individuals and how people are compelled to fit. When 585 doesn’t become a wine filled glass, it may be inferring that he was assumed to be inferior due to this, thus the laughing.
