    Not sure why you would put a metallic paste (anti-seize) right up against a bearing, seems a bit counter-intuitive. A tacky grease would have worked just fine. Those 1.6L Suzuki engines are fun to work on and very dependable. Should be a great rebuild!

  • @brad8665
    @brad8665 9 років тому +17

    I use a lot of assembly lube, or grease if I'm greasing something, but this is way overboard. Also I would have just used some regular "red and tacky" style grease on the thrust bearings. Anti seize is metallic.

      Brad V i know right, he's treating it like his butthole prior to some prison rape. the anti seize also seems odd. he's taking such care to not scratch the bearings but then puts metal filing paste right next to them. very curious.

    IDK about the Japanese engines but almost all American engines main caps ARE torqued with oil on the threads... the sad thing is most people don't know that you get more/also more consistent "with" oil than dry, I disagree with Anti seize inside an engine, and prefer STP to "assy lube" I also put a very thin film of oil on the sides of the main caps where they slide into the block.

    • @PatrikGelis
      @PatrikGelis 5 років тому +1

      That's what i was wondering about too. First he torqued em to 41 with no lube, and in the end when I'm very that the lube got into the threads he torqued em to 41 aswell. But is that torque spec for lubed threads or dry threads?

  • @123ABC-Machine-Basics
    @123ABC-Machine-Basics 2 роки тому

    No anti seize on bearings ! Engine oil or assembly grease only ! All the components need to be solvent washed and blow dried including the block then placed on clean rags. The bearings should be measured for thickness using a vernier caliper and the crank needs to be measured using a micrometer - if everything measures correctly it will be good to go ,
    When torquing mains , rods, cylinder heads etc always go in 10# steps then check 3 times at full torque.

    Hey lowrangeoffroad. some years ago i did the same on my samurai engine and i instaled the crankshaft and pistons like you did, and torqued everything, but when i was going to try to turn the cranshaft and checking if it was loos, ther were 1mm clearance, and when i contacted the place were i bught the bearings, they said it was going to be like that. but no. so i had to stop rebuild my engin for a while.

    • @lowrangeoffroad1
      @lowrangeoffroad1  7 років тому

      Thanks for the question. I need to ask several questions. 1)How do you know you have 1mm clearance. That is a lot of clearance. You need to have about .025mm (.001") to .051mm (.002") 2 ) Was the crankshaft machined? If so how much was removed during the machining process from the rod journals and the crankshaft journals? This will give us a place to start. Once you have this information I suggest you call 801-805-6644 and ask for William. He is our Master Engine builder. He can answer your questions and help you with part if needed. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @MrTor95
      @MrTor95 7 років тому

      we clearly felt that it was aboute 1mm clearance with the new bearings on, but the crankshaft wasnt machind when i removed it from the block, but we belive it was machined when the previous owner had the car, and that he got custom made bearings with it. but i have a new engine (bouhgt it with a case of 24 beer's) now because my dad let the block stay outside so it got rusted. so im going to rebuild the new engine, and buy a new camshaft and rocker arms, and then get the crankshaft machined with custom bearings with it.
      living in norway, so it will be a bit difficult to call William because the time diffrence. but i may be contacting you gus and order some parts for the car ;)

      me and my father had the same problem on a rebuild. we had an untouched crank, and just ordered a standard bearing kit. After assembling the engine and running it. we quickly discovered the bearings where too tight and ruined the crank along with the bearings. upon further research we discovered each individual journal on the crank actually has a different tolerance, some are very close to the same and some are quite drastically different in tolerance. never have we seen or heard of this before. Anyone else experience the same?? or ever heard of this??

    Can someone explain why the crankshaft is first installed and then taken out ?

    • @kloston1
      @kloston1 Рік тому

      He put those thin pieces of plastic to measure something on the crankshaft while its bolted down. So he had to bolt it down then he measured whatever those thin pieces of plastic measured once it was all clamped down. Then he Cleaned it off and greased it all up and reassembled. But it sounds like he was just double checking his machine shop's work to make sure it was machined correctly. So you could probably skip that if you trust yours or where you got the parts
