Pam, Youre an Idiot if you think we break their "Spirit". Why dont you go to the Steens in Jan and see how long you survive? . Its a frickin hard life for them. Minus temps in the winter, boiling in the summer, occasional mountain lion jumping on your back.I have a Steens Mustang from the south herd. He is over 20. He is in th Willamette valley right now, he has a blanket on . Gets fed twice a day. Has been ridden on the Alvord Desert in the dark, Been to the top of the mountain, has been ridden with his peeps. He likely would have been dead years ago by a horrible circumstances if not adopted. This isn't Walt Disney, its real life and its real, and can be brutal.

The poo you showed isn't horse manure. Horse poo is called "road apples" for good reason - round like small apples, and somewhat dry. I don't know what that pile was, the blobs were too large for horse apples and looked mushy. Suppose to look like clumps of chopped up grass. I've had horses for decades. Also, it's odd there are two herd leaders. A dominant male rules the herd which is comprised of females and their young. Any males born the previous year are run out of the herd by the leader because he doesn't like competition. Young males form "bachelor" groups which stay clear of the herd leader and occasionally try to steal mares to form his own herd.

We have had good luck tracking herds by spotting the stallion piles and then getting ahead of the herd. As the herd approaches, we don’t keep our position a secret. They then can choose how close to get which is generally much closer than when we have followed them. The roles in the herd/family are great to watch when they aren’t feeling defensive. Your videos keep getting better. Thank you for making them.

Because we have horses on our farm and it's sad to know that most wild horses live out in the wilderness and I was just wondering how do they survive? Of course our horses are domestic and so sweet as they can be.. I wonder how the wild horses survive giving birth to their babies and when it comes to food and water? I'm pretty sure they encounter a predator or two.
