The Swedish tradition in winter and on Christmas is wonderful, we love it Santa Lucia is very popular.. My sister do it when the family lived in Sweden... Santa Lucia is even known in Italy.
What a fabulous video. It makes it more special that your Great Grandfather was a part of it all. I tried to download it, but it would not allow that on this video.
Hello It's nice communicating with you Your smile got me attracted to your profile, you look gorgeous and you smile is so beautiful please always wear that smile your face 😊🌺
Now I know why my dad strung our tree with the Swedish flag! His mom would make limpa bread, gingerbread cookies, and Swedish coffee cake. Herring ,cheeses, and head cheese were also served.
So delightful. Goodness, recorded over 80 years ago now! I love it! I'd be interested to help it be kept alive and help expose this clip to more people, to further the historical knowledge of Swedish culture. I'm guessing the original filmmaker or owners are no longer alive to ask? but are there any contact details, or names of who could be credited if so? This is just delightful, and a good window into a world that is now nearly a century ago... Wholesome family values, in a world before screens, the internet and cheap air travel. How very different life was back then. Seems wonderful.

The shortest night of the year? The 13th of December is no such thing. The Solstice (21/22nd of December) isn't, either...it is the longest night of the year, not the shortest. The shortest day, yes, night, no. Mr. Reporter was just reading a typo. Love to see vintage times...
It used to be the shortest night before the calendar change to the Gregorian calendar we follow now. We just decided to keep the date instead of switching to December 21st.
Well, the ww2 started in 1939, Sweden had it good despite of it. Most of Europeans were trying to survive and Swedes were baking fancy Christmas cookies. Lucky people.
Living candles on on the yule tree was/is a tradition in all Scandinavia. Apart from the fact that the lights only are on while there are people looking after it, then it's relatively safe as long as the tree is fresh, even if it is a harpiks filled tree. Mind you when the tree dries out it's something else..
iajua yes. It’s fabulous. The new swedes are really jazzing things up with their cultural enrichment. It’s never been such fun. Things are so “peaceful” now.
Thank you so much for sharing this. It was wonderful!

I just keep wondering how many people burn up on Christmas with all those candles.

Open flames, sparklers, a live tree and children; what could go wrong?
But did anything go wrong..? The elf & safety police clearly weren’t around then - however did people SURVIVE, I wonder..?
