Rauru was the name of the Sage of Light in Ocarina of Time, who also guided Link as an owl. This is the first time that I believe that I have seen any depiction of the Zonai, and they look interesting and hope we see more of them.
Watching his playthrough of BotW was what made me decide to get a Switch. I got Tears of the Kingdom this afternoon and with a couple breaks for food and Jeopardy I played until 2 AM this morning.
I'm excited to watch these live until our paths start diverging too much, and then I'm excited to circle back to the archive afterward! I'm only a few hours into the game but it's a wild ride for sure
I would assume the reason that cooked/roasted food items are kept in a separate place from "materials", where the other food items are located, is because you cannot use roasted food as ingredients for cooking.
As an historian, I object to Zelda's hasty interpretation of ancient iconography, without any consideration for stylistic choices and potential symbolic/ideological staging.
Everybody knows that ancient civilizations just wrote the same words we do, but using different letters. Language has no relation to history, culture, or context whatsoever.
@@ColonelRPG Apologies if you received notification of a reply which has now been deleted. I’m so used to stumbling across ridiculous claims these days that I totally missed the sarcasm until I reflected on your comment further. Plus I was up very late playing this game… 🤨
@@icy1007 That's fine, but it is implied through dialogue that she doesn't know what a Zonai looks like, for instance. Upon gazing at a large eared statue she deduces that they must have looked different from Hylians. In this case she turns out to be right, but the reasoning is the same as if you looked at ancient Summerian art and concluded that they must have looked different because they drew themselves with oversized eyes in artistic depictions. Another case is when she inferes that the Zonai must have descended from the heavens because they either drew themselves that way or the hylians did. It could be true because this is a fantasy setting, but it could also have been political/religious messaging. Either a symbolic representation of their dominion over hylians, or an ideologically driven narrative.
Also its super amusing that both a Zelda game and a Myst-like game are coming out soon. It means I'm totally going to be having your channel open constantly. lol
Yeah actually the idea of an open-world game using a bit of metroidvania progression has been my most-desired gameplay premise for a long time. I felt BotW lacked a sense of growing complexity that satisfied me as an extrinsically motivated player, and getting important traversal abilities over time to open up the map would be a great way to make exploration feel more rewarding and interactive. Seems like an unlikely thing to expect of TotK, but I would love that.
goddamit! i went back to this video a few days after starting it and totally forgot he named the golem #notmygolem and was very confused for a while XD well played sir. well played!
~5:20 - I do like that you start with max hearts and the Master Sword as this is a direct sequel rather than Link being back down to three with no explanation which is what normally happens in Zelda sequels.
I completely agree with you about durability. People who don’t like it, just lack critical thinking skills. Can’t wait for part 2 man, and the whole series!!!
didnt know about firmament. thanks for the tip. wishlisted :) figured everyone saw the game play demo and knew what the new mechanics were. You managed to stay really spoiler free for this. looking forward to watching and playing along.
Sequels aren’t that uncommon in Zelda; you have: Zelda 1 -> Zelda 2 A Link to the Past -> Link’s Awakening -> the Oracle Duology Ocarina of Time -> Majora’s Mask Wind Waker -> Phantom Hourglass There’s also a couple of indirect sequels; the train one is explicitly a follow up to WW/PH as it’s set in a new Hyrule founded by the Link and Zelda from those, and Link Between World’s similarly is set a long time after aLttP and I believe part of the premise is that it is a sequel. Also, timeline debates aside, both WW and TP reference OoT as part of their back stories so if you don’t go down the split timeline route, then at the very least they’re separate continuities spawning off OoT as a basis and taking the premise of what could happen next in different directions. There’s also the Four Swords stuff and they follow Minish Cap somehow I think, although I’m least familiar with that part of the franchise so not sure exactly how they connect to one another off the top of my head. So short and the long, sequels are common for Zelda, it’s just how/if those groups of games relate to one another you can debate.
I haven't gotten far into the game so don't worry I'm not spoiling anything, i know as much as you, but i don't think link's hair got longer, i think it just looks that way cuz it's down
I super approve of your profile pic choices. I'm neither gay nor furry, but Kass is husbando, Stephanie as a hot redhead gerudo and Marty, the Great King of Evil, makes so much sense. Princess Zelda would technically be queen if her parents are dead, right? Also, Outer Wilds had the Nomai and the space druids, both of which seem to have been inspirations for the Zonai. The Purah Pad 😂 definitely the Switch. The Sheikah Slate was the Wii U GamePad but they altered it enough to not be as obvious.
Technically Zelda would be queen, just uncoronated. Although an argument could be made as the kingdom fell at about the same time or before her father died, she wouldn’t become queen as there wasn’t a kingdom to become queen of, similarly to how Princess Leia doesn’t get called/considered Queen Leia even though her adoptive royal parents died when her home world was destroyed.
34:30 - 35:10 Here's the first highlight suggestion (who thought the wildlife would be better guardians than constructs made to do that job?) 😂 44:03 I can't believe you didn't make a "Rauwu" joke here (maybe it was a low hanging fruit, I guess) 😛
Years from now, when I fondly look back on the TOTK release, I'll always remember that it started with the words "That was the longest, slowest, highest budget upskirt you've ever seen."
Well, yeah. He's the same link from BOTW. Different Links having different handedness is way less weird than the idea of him suddenly changing dominant hands between games lol
Not just Botw. Link in the 3D games has been right handed since Twilight Princess Wii version. Mostly because of motion controls but I guess they decided to keep it.
@@BLeePrit he's not _canonically_ right-handed in twilight princess though in fairness since in the wii version you just see the whole game mirrored meaning that the text is backwards and the compass directions are flipped and stuff which is definitely not how it's meant to be lol
Can we just mention how terrible Zelda's voice actor portrays this character? Her voice is absolutely grating. She is the titular character that speaks the most and she just sounds terrified all the time. And because the voice actor is already majorly changing her voice, she cannot provide any expression in her tone. The scene where she is excited about mural comes across very flat. I feel like I am listening to high school theatre production and the only thing the actor can do is raise or lower the volume of their voice. I really wish they had chosen a better voice or more capable voice actor.
Yeah, I've seen people confused about whether she was afraid or excited in that scene until the "This is a huge discovery!" line. Kind of a distracting problem to have. Makes me wonder if some later lines from her were intended in the same way I interpreted them, tone-wise. I'm not sure if the problem lies in voice acting or direction, but the voice actor doesn't seem to fit what the voice director seems to have wanted.
@@melephs_cap in fairness i really think that one was the intention, given the concerned expression and swelling tense music then cutting to the subversion of it turning out to be excitement
