I can definitely see room to improve pick resistance, but beyond that, I was impressed with the construction, and quality of this lock. The design looked extremely ... well done.
Especially well done compared to the Viro locks in 885, 943, and 1078... those were awful. [It's all the same lock in 3 different videos, watch them in order for context].
You might now know but incase you don’t. Counter rotation is when you feel pin push back against your tensioning tool. It’s common to feel on like a spool as it moves out of a false set. Nothing on x means pin in x position doesn’t give any feed back neither set or not set. There’s a lot of terms but most of them are just describing what you feel on your pick as you feel the tumblers/pins.
It looks like it takes some time to pick... Good for use not for storage where someone could have time to cut or damage... Good to have on hand for quick security of your Bike... Motorcycle....
Can you use the ram set and do a distructive opening ? Line it up on the opposite side of the key and hit it right were the pin rests . Thanks for your videos. Very educational.
harry zimbler I was thinking the same thing! I noticed that the tube walls where the cylinder is placed into are not that thick, so the ball bearing does not have much “meat” to sit into. Also that small pin is not that stong, so yeah the ramset could work that way.
I would expect thicker chain for securing a motorcycle in italy. Core puller or slide hammer attack? Im not sure the ramset has much to attack on this other than perhaps just tying to kinetically break the bolt at the dove tail with the cylinder. But that wouldn't unlock it would it?
On the easy side you say. I'd like to see what a beast would be like. 25 mm shackle, 18 pins and two hidden things. And a gremlin to fight you inside. 🤠
A really cool lock concept and a great video as usual, however, I believe the Draw-String Storage Bag is more secure than the lock! You never disappoint LPL!
The locking bar spins. But even when it wouldn't, you will have a hard time to put a hacksaw blade in, without a vice. If you manage to do it, you will find out, that that locking bar is from case hardened steel. I use this Viro to lock me bicycle, and no one even tried to steal it.
All spools for the driver pins, surprised that there isn't much flop when you tensioned it. Also, you really love that 0.018 pick, what kit is it from?
I was looking at the short pins and springs and wondering if it could be combed. You know, use a comb to push both drivers and key pins up into the lock body to open it that way.
Hi LPL. I've been enjoying your videos! Am I correct to assume that because you can extract the cylinder you can also re-key the lock? Would this lock require any specialized pins? Thank you. -Henry
I just realized that I need a pick translator or a slightly slowed down and narrated pick with details about "a false set" & "counter rotation" and other parts of the pick
There are videos like that. I know there’s one youtuber who does explanations with these little wooden models of how the pins and picking work. Not sure their name but a little searching should find them
How would you feel about trying to make a unsolvable puzzle box on my some im thinking a puzzle with a finger print lock and a if you fail it Burns the content
I have no lock picking ex but love your channel but I hope so many people don't use your smarts so they can commit crime but I have never used your skill to commit crime but I want to make a puzzle box using magnetic combinations as well as finger print and a timer to solve it and also a timer if the timer runs out I Burns the content I'll buy and pay for everything you or we need
That is not a 10mm chain thickness. The lock is designed for links "up to" 10mm diameter, (guess they never thought the links would be square when they wrote the description). Unless LPL has some huge thumbs? 10mm is about .4 inches.
The purpose is to buy time... The longer it takes a thief, the chance of them being spotted greatly increases... Also, try to park your motorcycle as close to the front of the build as possible. With a lock on it, and the bike being in plain site that everyone can see, no one will touch it..
Nothing. The core and the locking pin are pushed forward into the lock. In fact, I don't even think the "button" (or rather pin + spring) is even visible at this point, just a small hole.
I doubt many motorcycle thieves are good pickers. They're more likely to carry a bolt cutter around, because it the fastest way to remove a chain, which means that the chain thickness and quality should be the bigger concern with this lock.
what i find interesting is that this lock isn't great for more expensive bikes partly because of the pin tumbler lock, yet on most people's HOUSES they have the same or a weaker lock! why do we all still use pin tumblers? houses should be using disc detainers by now. although i guess it's easy to re-key? that's probably it. trading convenience for security..
I use it but only to stop people nicking a wheel from my motorcycle it then gets a massive Oxford chain and lock going Between the bike and a ground anchor that’s in the concrete out side we’re I work
Dunno if I'd call the sophisticated but most motorcycle or scooter thefts in the UK are carried out by simply cutting the lock with a battery powered disk cutter or by hitting the rider and taking the bike. Then there's the "locked" bike, attached to nothing, simply lifted into the back of a van. All these attacks take a couple of seconds are require no skill at all.
Is picking a thing that actually happens? I just can’t picture some dirt bag sitting on the ground with a flashlight and picks opening a locked motorcycle lock. Sure it might happen but I think brute force attacks are at least a thousand times more likely.
Way more discreet, once you picked it open you have to go away being silent compared to brute force is going to atract some curious people and maybe even the owner of the vehicule
Mike Price usually yes. Physical strength is 90% of the game. Usually the scrote will use known exploits like snapping euro locks but occasionally you’ll find one that will rake or bypass a lock in a somewhat cleverer way. Cordless mini grinders are the great Satan right now, they’ll cut nearly anything in seconds.
WineScrounger yep one of the nicer brushless cordless grinder can take the side off a "gun safe" in minutes, a chain is nothing. Grinder doesn't care about hardness.
Mike Price: ... You'd be surprised how often Lock Picking is used by thieves :( ... There's a little known area of Locksmithing called "Forensic Locksmithing" and it's fairly easy (for an expert with experience and training) to use a microscope and tell if a lock has been picked open or opened with a key. The vast majority of pick open thefts are chalked up to "Door left Unlocked" in police reports ... A certain volume of high value "Non-Payable" insurance claims, are reversed after it's proven the lock was in fact picked open.... OH! and guess who buy high security locks from that point forward! :)
statistically yes physical attack is anywhere from 80% to 96% of attacks including freeze, burn, pry, impact, croppers, grinder etc however you dont need a tonne of skills behind you to pick, locksmiths have demonstrated you can "bump" a lock open or they have a lock picking gun which goes up and down very fast with the tension tool which will knock the pins into place and allow access.. to be honest i dont think there is such a thing as an undefeatable lock, theres no material that can defend against cutting or impact, an extremely hard steel would be brittle so would fail against impact, a softer steel can withstand and bend to impact but is easier to cut, there's no middle ground
I've never understood why manufacturers put so much effort into guarding the end two chain links? ... All the links are equally susceptible to cutting. Like using a shrouded padlock on a chain ... why bother?
On my days off i pick peoples bike locks and just leave them there to see their reaction when they come back. I do of course watch the bike for them from a reasonable spot
LPL and other lock pickers mention in their videos that they only pick locks belonging to themselves. You may be good intentioned but one day might end up on the wrong side of an unpickable lock!
I find these videos really relaxing for some reason, its probably because of your voice
M0litan There’s never a...umm or ahh He should do audio books.
there’s a reason i watch him when i’m trying to sleep
I’m like. Nothing locked is actually locked.
I can definitely see room to improve pick resistance, but beyond that, I was impressed with the construction, and quality of this lock. The design looked extremely ... well done.
Yeah, Italians make the best bike locks around. Here in the states we are limited to schlag (aka kryptonite). Which are OK. But not to this caliber
Really? The keys are one sided, you always have to check how you insert the key, if the key was double sided it would have been a lot better
Especially well done compared to the Viro locks in 885, 943, and 1078... those were awful. [It's all the same lock in 3 different videos, watch them in order for context].
@@scottcol23 Nah best bike locks are made by germans.
I find it just a bit ironic that between you and BosnianBill, he is the one to remind us to "stay legal" instead of the practicing attorney :)
Lawyers charge money for that kind of advice.
Well, you gotta have some work, ya know?
Hahaha :D
Job security!
Bosnianbill
Unusual lock. Very tiny springs. Not a bad lock for a bicycle lock.
Bring on the RAMSET and bolt cutters!!
Was anybody else excited to see an 8 min. video?!?
I think you meant to say "was anybody else excited to see a new LPL video?" 😉
YES, as a picker myself he always kills me with those three min picks. LOL
You are the best lockpicker in youtube. Great video mate
I'd still like to see you make an attempt at raking locks open, even if it has spool pins. Just to demonstrate a locks resistance to a rapid open.
Is there a video where you explain the terms you say while working on a lock: counter-rotation on x, nothing on x, dropped into a false set...
Keep watching and you will eventually understand
You might now know but incase you don’t. Counter rotation is when you feel pin push back against your tensioning tool. It’s common to feel on like a spool as it moves out of a false set. Very nice and lightweight lock for a bike.....agree that for something larger....and thicker chain and lock would be beneficial.
They put up more fight for you then some MTLs .....probably untouchable for an average bike thief. Great video.
Definitely an interesting lock, seems to be not horrible or good on pick resistance lol . Great picking brother and thanks for the review
"Viro Totem" sounds like a Harry Potter spell lol
I would love to see that mechanism redesigned as a trailer hitch pin lock. It looks much better built than any locks I have found.
great video and cool lock! although a little disappointing after watching your April fools videos! lol lpl you are awesome!

I would love to see if the lock body is hardened steel and if it can be cut through with a hacksaw?
Not a bad lock. Nice work picking it...
Nice lock and interesting video as usual!
another thing to make this stronger should be 2 bigger chain links to slide another padlock of your choice
Italians make quite nice locks especially of brass.
Nice pick Mr L.P.L
Very cool lock ;) Bravo!

Damn.. thsts a very good lock..

25 mm shackle, 18 pins and two hidden things. And a gremlin to fight you inside. 🤠
This took twice more time to pick than the Kryptonite one with the discs core. Does that make it better?
A really cool lock concept and a great video as usual, however, I believe the Draw-String Storage Bag is more secure than the lock! You never disappoint LPL!
Very nice video 👌 and nice lock. Is it better/safer than the viro panzer 4115?
Longer videos like this!
cool channel
😍😍😍 Sweet lock. It must have cost a fair bit but you probably got it for $5.😅 Great that it's rekeyable at least.😎✌
Interesting design.
Does the shackle spin to resist hacksaw attacks along side the chain and the lock body?
The locking bar spins. But even when it wouldn't, you will have a hard time to put a hacksaw blade in, without a vice. If you manage to do it, you will find out, that that locking bar is from case hardened steel.

Ram set it!
Good lock 🔒 🍾👍🏻😊😊😊😊🖖🏻👍🏻
696 *_Nice_*
Is it safe for motorcycles? Will it be cut immediately?
The construction of this lock is very similar to the Chubb/Union Hercules. Only they use a much better core.
Could you please post a link, thanks
This lock was designed as a puzzle by Brian Hales. Not sure why people are using it to secure things.
Would it be possible to use something like a break-pad spreader to get between the chain links for a bruit force attack.
suprised to not see any comments about the video number
I’m not familiar enough with destructive attacks to know, is that brass dovetail sufficient enough to hold against a slide hammer?
Key bitting looks like you could zip or rake it.
all spools makes for a bad pinning......
Radek Vamowski under cuts or threading would have helped... But I doubt any of that happend.
I was looking at the short pins and springs and wondering if it could be combed. You know, use a comb to push both drivers and key pins up into the lock body to open it that way.
White Tiger Gaming it'd be nice if lpl would try different methods.
Daddypants11 Or wish he would try challenge locks. He knows everything about the lock before it’s picked.
Hi LPL. I've been enjoying your videos! Am I correct to assume that because you can extract the cylinder you can also re-key the lock? Would this lock require any specialized pins? Thank you. -Henry

By wiper insert do you mean like a piece of metal from a wiper blade?
Fraser Pearson Exactly.

Not bad actually at least one thing I can use on my gate front to close it
I'd kinda wonder how tough that chain is. Certainly didn't look hardened.
Hey LPL! Random question, where did you buy your tension tool for tensioning tubular locks? I don’t mean the Huk impression picks
Nice
The purpose is to buy time... The longer it takes a thief, the chance of them being spotted greatly increases... Also, try to park your motorcycle as close to the front of the build as possible. With a lock on it, and the bike being in plain site that everyone can see, no one will touch it..
what happens if you push the push the little button with out picking the first bit
Nothing. The core and the locking pin are pushed forward into the lock. In fact, I don't even think the "button" (or rather pin + spring) is even visible at this point, just a small hole.
Hello check Viro website, the top chain is 13mm
Model 4150 is a Holley carburetor?
OzarksWildman yes it is, the most popular one
nice
oh yeahhh
You kinda sounded like a dentist when picking the lock.
I doubt many motorcycle thieves are good pickers. They're more likely to carry a bolt cutter around, because it the fastest way to remove a chain, which means that the chain thickness and quality should be the bigger concern with this lock.
How can you tell that you’ve dropped into a false set?
The lock rotates in the correct direction by a slight amount.
Who's here from chris Ramsay's video?? Smash that thumbs up!
Pretty nice lock! Get rid of those standard pins for security pins and you would have a VERY nice lock!!!
THR33STEP or figure out how to put a medeco core in it lol
It's a puzzle lock hahaha, he didn't even get it all the way open.
🍎 📷👌
Who's here after Cris Ramsay's video?
Virus, bring back my Legionaries!
Wrong plea. Legionary's disease is caused by a bacterium, not by a virus.
(and yes, I did understand your joke)

What sort of lifespan does a disc detainer lock have before wear becomes an issue (I genuinely don't know)?
I use it but only to stop people nicking a wheel from my motorcycle it then gets a massive Oxford chain and lock going Between the bike and a ground anchor that’s in the concrete out side we’re I work
Bet-cha can't pick the locks on the "Space-shuttle".
Job security!
It is if it’s a pëwag chain.
These chains in Italy are usually quickly disposed of with mains grinders. 10mm, 12mm, 14mm square or exagonal makes virtually 0 difference.
The chain looks strong, but it seems that the lock can be easily been cut with an electric saw.
I'd like to see a video on changing the core and other naughty bits to make it more pick resistant.

They don't protect the chain links, but the locking bar.
This is the lactating lawyer
That dovetail looks like a week spot
Nah, even without the dovetail the bolt is still locked between the cylinder and the body.
