You did the right thing doing it from outside the US, that's how I got mines through my mom who is a citizen. Doing it outside the country guarantees she wouldn't get homesick & depressed being away from her family indefinitely. Also I think there's a backlog in USCIS with the migrant influx storming the borders
You're right about the backlog at USCIS. I have ex-coworkers still there and told me that even the FOD (Field Office Director) has slowly started phasing into retirement because the Regional Office (Atlanta) just wants numbers and the field adjudicators are doing the best they can with the limited staffing.

Great topic about renting an apartment. I just secured my own Apartment in Barranquilla but have lived in Panama since 2018. In Panama renting was easy. If you walk up to the landlord as a Gringo and have 2 months rent in cash your in that day. Not the same in Colombia as you said. In Colombia the only way I got a 1 year lease as a foreighner was to have my Colombian girlfriend on the lease with me and her sister as an additional guarantor. So it's doable but you do have to jump thru some hoops.

You're very lucky to find a Women from Colombia who. Was not selfish and only focused on living in America. It a blessing to have a Colombiana who will actually listen to reason and trust your wisdom and judgement. I dated a foreign women and when she came to visit for 3 weeks in the USA she became depressed and homesick. It was an absolute hell for me. I cant imagine how it would have been if she couldn't leave for 2 years.. Foreign women dont understand that if you try to move to the USA legally you have to be a very strong women. Its actually better to just cross as an illegal and do things that way in reality😢. You made the best decision for everyone. The states are only good for making USD and short visits.

Well, I have some personal bad news; after about a year and 9 months, me and my girl are no longer together. I think because I was her first foreigner she dated, she couldn't deal with certain things that came along with that. Coupled with a long distant relationship makes any relationship hard. So we mutually parted ways.
I planned on retiring in Colombia before I met my ex-fiancee anyway, so my plans haven't changed. Man, look. I feel you about the USA. After doing 19 years of law enforcement and almost 29 years of military service (in my retirement process now), I LOVE our country but our country don't love us the same way, bottom line. I decided when I came back from my last deployment in 2021 that I would make Colombia my home, Medellin specifically.
Brother, you hit the nail on the head with some Colombian women. Although my ex-fiancee and I talked about this ad nauseum, I wasn't 'rich' and I grew up poor in the projects. I explained this many different ways to her, but I don't think she understood this. What I've noticed is that self-preservation is forefront and even though they say they do, they really don't.
You're also right about the K1 visa process. Like I stated before, I worked with USCIS for two years. The adjudicator broke it down to you real well and/or you read those documents well. Brother, I'm HAPPY to see you and your woman doing well and you doing well in general.
Brah, I plan on being in Medellin for three weeks in June. I plan on flying to Cartegena the weekend around the 7th (Friday) or the 8th (Saturday). I'd like to spend the weekend there. Which day would you recommend to fly into Cartegena, Friday or Saturday? I'm flexible on the days, so either is good for me. would it be better to get an airbnb or hotel? I don't drink, smoke, or really hang out much so I'm boring, dawg... lol! I hope to link up with yall, man!

The K1 visa can take up to a year, you’re right it’s not recommended that they travel back and forth, they’ll also have to go through a process and they’ll need a sponsor that must make a certain amount and be responsible for that person as they won’t be able to work until work visa is approved. I went through the process for love but wish I would have not and kept the relationship in the other country. So consider those things before bringing someone over for love, would you be ok with going through that process and giving that person freedoms but if you break up have absolutely no recourse to reverse the process, and you’ll still be the legal sponsor for them. A lot to consider for love.

I am not sure you will be able to get her a visitor visa, You will be able to get her a resident visa after you get marry and it can take up to 2 years.
Fact check! Anyone can apply for a tourist visa for the United States. If they meet the requirements and get approved then can get that visa anyway from 30 days to 10 years. When I say help, meaning make sure has everything in place to have a higher chance of getting approved.
