I'm happy to see that someone is making a bike to not be so low. Lower isn't always faster, but smaller (body) is always faster. If you can relax, you can do the head tuck, and roll your shoulders inward, and run a longer stem to let that happen. Hey lads, Here's the real issue with the endurance bike versus race bike in the context you were discussing it. The endurance bike will always be a hard sell because there is no meaningful financial separation. Suppose that the conversation revolved instead around cars. The impracticality of driving a top-end sports car if you aren't racing it is obvious. Everyone wants one but it costs way more than it is worth for the average person. They instead buy a much more practical daily driver that easily goes the speed limit and is much better suited for their day to day needs, plus it is substantially more affordable. In the world of bikes, this separation is non-existent. You have a Ferrari available at the same price you have Toyota Camry. The Camry is far more practical, but if you could have a Ferrari at the same price point, why wouldn't you buy the Ferrari? It is also part of the appeal of cycling in general when you can rock up to the cafe ride on the same (or even nicer) whip than the Pros are racing on. People will sacrifice a lot of comfort to "look good" and feel like they are on the best gear available, especially when there is so little separation in price between top end and their endurance cousins. I think the endurance market is a different bubble than what most of the viewers of this channel live in where most of us are performance driven rather than casual cycling enthusiasts with no interest in going fast.

Chris, heating up sugar on the stovetop is overkill mate. Just use a glass 1 or 2L measuring cup and just cover the sugar with water, then microwave for a minute or less. Add cold water after dissolving. It's quick and easier to pour into those flasks.
I think what you’re trying to say is, “ this is the right type of bike if you can overcome your ego and accept you’re not going to be pro” with regards the endurance style bike.
What is really cool about toot (been following them for a number of years) is they are completely focused on pushing the envelope. This is something most custom builders do not do (thinking of something like argonaut / bastion). Since they build their product custom in Italy they can make ideas a reality very quickly. I love how this bike has broken through and has the internets collective panties in a bunch. I’m here for it!
I applaud Basso for what they have done with their new endurance bike. More bike brands should distinguish between the race bike and the bike that is more suited to the masses. I am a fan (and rider) of Pinarello, they were onto this a while back with their X line and did not get enough credit for addressing the needs of most riders while still maintaining their racing line.
Re: contradictions. People don't have to be infallible or perfect. It's an unfair expectation and reeks of the "I want to improve society", "Yet you participate in society. Curious" meme.
Sames. I am not even an outspoken gay right supporter (not much against them I just don’t partake in these conversations most of the time), but the way they did the guy was unfair. He spoke out and voiced an opinion on thing A yet Chris bashed him for not speaking out on thing B that is a completely other topic.
Great show again chaps - you’re spoiling us! I’ve got a tarmac sl8 and I’m happy with it but the new Basso SV did peak my interest because I’m not a pro and it’s what the cool kids will be riding 😂 but seriously the increased stack height is a plus as is the overall geometry and I like the idea that it’s not for the pros, as if we’re more important. I feel like this elevates the potential of how good a bike for a consumer can be - without sticking to UCI rules a consumer can ride a bike that’s actually better than what the pros ride. It’s also what I liked about the sworks Aethos aimed at the consumer (under UCI 6.8kg). As for the finishing kit I built my sl8 up myself with 38cm bars, shorter cranks, etc seeing as spesh are behind the curve on that - maybe they’re also behind the curve on bike geometry as well - hence Basso SV and even going further bikes like our man Arne Peters are offering. Love.
The uprising cockpit jesse was talking about. Ridley does exactly that with their new noah fast. You can choose from three different stack heights. Up to 100 mm.
Regarding wheel choice for an event like Peaks, like Chris said just use what you are confident with and can trust, tyres as well. Better returns nailing your gearing and nutrition
I don't buy it. Gravel races in the states do it so we'll! You only need 5 guys on motorcycles and 4 drones... That's like 10 people. And you live stream it on IG, twitch, UA-cam. I bet you can make more money in the end then over tv
MMR have been around for years. Pretty much only sold in Spain., but have also sponsored MTB riders for a long time. In the UK, “MMR” is the name of a childhood vaccine, so not the best association 😅
There was a LTR interview with Dr Tim not long ago where he said that table sugar was good for adapting to 50/50 fructose maltodextrin, but not the best to use once adapted. He didn't really explain why though. Edit: unrelated but you can spec that Basso with old school rounder, wider bars if you want too.
Another recipe idea for the sugar flasks. I couldn't be bothered to eyeball the amount of lemon juice so I bought a bag of citric acid and add half a teaspoon to a 500ml flask.
An endurance bike a size or two small with long stem and negative rise is super race-able, sometimes faster than it's race pedigree contemporaries, the Falcon seems designed around similar conclusions.
Always chat about durin ride nutrition (sugar water) would love to hear lead up nutrition say 1 week out how to get the body into its prime before an event. Carb loading etc Love the show guys!!!
Silca says DO NOT WAX QUICK LINKS Jessie! They say to put some drip wax on the link after waxing the rest of the chain. Separately, take a look at the Enve Aero riser stem to get around the problem of cutting your fork too low.
In the US, Eastern time zone, work from home. Euro pro bike races are usually on in the morning, and on weekdays they make great background noise while I'm catching up on e-mails and I can turn to the TV for the exciting parts if I'm not on a call. I use a well-known North American cycling streaming service based in Texas and a VPN, and I can move from country to country to find wherever they have rights and watch pretty much anything. This morning there were three races available to watch, and for the most part they are done well before lunch. All-in it's around $200/year.
Here in the States I think literally all the pro races are on either the Peacock or HBO Max apps which I happily pay for. I watched the Tour Down Under live at night here and then just watch the stages in their entirety after the fact for the other races.
Thanks man, though we are very different. GCN = big production team, scripted content, more access to brands .. Nero Show = chatting about bikes the way we would on a ride.
Commenting on the discussion on the Basso endurance bike. What is Jessie's take on the Ridley geometry? for the same frame size, those always had a higher stack from a longer head tube. I found that this, combined with the proper handling seems good. Some of the endurance bikes actually seem too slow handling, rather than slow to ride and are not as engaging.
I’ve just ordered a Basso SV. I’m 5’10” but long in the legs and short in the torso, 52 years old, never raced never will. The shorter reach makes absolute sense for me, it’ll fit me better and is therefore more comfortable which means i can sustain higher efforts for longer. The roads in the UK are crap and the 32mm wheels are ideal. Its italian made and looks beautiful as well in the Black/Silver colourway. I don’t have half a shit of interest in reading aero waffle about what bike is fastest in a lab and I have no interest in a SL8, the basso will be as fast as anything else in the real world of normal riders.
I'm mountain time zone US and Tour stages typically are starting around 4am for me. So I get on the trainer at 5ish, watch a couple hours while riding, then drive to work and see the end of the stage.
@@toreycahn9543 There's only so many times they can compare the 2w aero differences between frames. Having it every other week will let them actually have stuff to talk about.
In the US it’s split between Peacock (NBC Universal) and Max. We get pretty good availability for all of the classics and tours, but the timing to watch live is whacky. I watched the whole TDU because on the US East Coast it started at 7 or 8 PM and usually I could watch the whole stage cause the stages weren’t that long. Watching the Tour requires you to get up early to catch the neutral start. Still expensive, though. Those services together cost me $45 or so a month, but I get a lot of other value since Peacock has American football and Max has quality TV
You don't need to wax the quick link. The pins of the link have to push wax out of the holes of the chain, the rollers are on the chain its self, and the plates get some transfer during brake in. The tire width thing is needed. Now that we're on to the wider wheels with the wider internal width, the tires blow up! My GP5000's in a 30mm on the Reserve 42/49's measure approx 34mm. With the road riding near me being mostly rougher than gravel I need the cush that this provides!
I'm definitely a bigger consumer of pro cycling than Jesse by the sounds and I loved paying under $100 (AUD) for a full year's cycling on GCN+. To me and a few mates it was a golden era. One of the biggest losers from this price increase and consolidation in streaming is the women's races. They already struggle for attention over the mens' ones, but GCN+ carried them all and I watched more than ever on there. Even if it's the long highlights package, it was so easy. It's a handy reminder that pro cycling worth nothing compared to global sports and worth fighting for, even by its small group of fans
I don’t disagree that it’s not good for the sport, but the quality of coverage and the content associated with it has stagnated. Maybe this is the opportunity to update that.
I can never remember how much water to use 🤦🏼♂️. I've got a 250ml flask so if I want to put 200g of sugar in that how much water do I add when I dissolve it?
@JW-wl5lm it's up to you, if you want a more viscous product use less water, if your want less viscous use more. Also depends how long you want to ride for, and therefore how much sugar you are going to use.
I think like Chris is touching on it would be interesting to see due to the increased stack / more relaxed geometry of the Basso SV whether this would actually result in amateur riders being faster (against a bike with much more aggressive geometry (with similar spec, weight, gearing etc)) because they have better form on the bike. Does better form i.e more comfortable, composed position pushing through the pedals outweigh the reduced drag from an all out aero frame. I say frame over position because most amateur riders will not try and adopt a low, aero position. Maybe aero isn't the subject at all, it's more to do with riding position and how that effects power transfer. Of course more comfort = being able to hold power for longer.
on the wheels for peaks chat, "Creative" carbon ultra wheels are super light and wide for a good price. ridden by a heap of top national riders and australian run
Tour down under - how good would it be if they paid Tom Pidcock to rock up. He would suit the parkour and Cadels. Would clean up in aus would be great for the coverage
Hmm, not sure he has the power to hold off the group after the last descent in Cadel’s race - Schmidt is a strong TT rider. Wildlings is ridden a speed- I suspect he’d need a bit more gradient to get proper separation. Admittedly, he has a quick sprint off a climb though so would certainly be in the mix.
I think the thing Jesse still misses with the endurance bike debate is that almost ALL people ride for speed mentally. I am way too weak to race for results but I have entered a few mass start "race" events. But even if you never pin a number on it don't even du any structured training most people are still kind of "training", riding as fast as possible on some way, or trying to improve their speed somehow. And it's just nice to have a pro level equipment doing so. I own an aeroad. Do I need it? No. But it's nice and I don't ride longer than 6 hours and my body tolerates it for that time. It's the sporting equivalent of being able to own an F1 car to go to trackdays. Do you need that? No. But you wouldn't run a road car instead because it's "practical", "comfortable" or "what fits your back". Chris is right that you need to prove it's equivalent in performance
These guys are smooth. The way they conduct this podcast week to week is so professional. I have tremendous respect for them. They almost make it look easy.
Thanks, it’s still very adhoc as I have to dismantle the set most weeks (I share the space with a colleague). So we tend to just put behind us what we have in the office that day.
Love all the SL8 talk (lol). As someone who loves NBD, building and tinkering with bikes as much as I love riding them the SL8 has kinda killed it for me. I mean, where do I go from here? It's 1kg heavier than my SL6 weight weenie, it's not as exciting to ride or look at as my Allez Sprint, but it's the fastest and most comfortable of the 3 (IE: almost faultless but somehow boring at the same time).
If I were serious about climbing wheels, I would look into a set of wheels from Brisk Cycling. A pair of disc wheels weigh less than 800g. That’s a pair!
Cynical? Idiotic. Comparing gambling with imprisonment. For once a pro cyclist actually says something. I have nada to do with the sport nor its governing bodies nor would I ever want to as it is one of the most corrupt sports on par with football/soccer. Sports washing of brutal regimes nonstop. And your immediate answer is, let's look at his jersey, oh!! But gambling!! That's not cynicism, that's ethical bankruptcy.
I endorse your comments. There is no moral equivalence between the two at all, although if he was truly against gambling, he could have taken a stance. Their response was overall weak \ flippant!
Why would a company like Uno-X sponsor a cycling team if not for sportswashing? The hypocrisy lies in where you draw the line. Several Eastern European countries have non-existent LGBTQ rights, while multiple Western European nations have elected far-right governments that openly promote anti-feminist and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric. Yet, we have no issues racing there.
Me as a person w/ "short legs" (long torso), have more like the opposite problem. I can't go as low as i want, unless opting for a maybe to small frame and an overly long stem.. so it is hard to 2 versions of a model would be needed? a high stack and a low stack?
There’s a bike for each person. If you need a higher stack then the Basso is a good choice. I need a low stack and have ended up running wedges under my cleats to get the saddle to bar drop big enough 🤦♂️
The whole endurance bike discussion… the thing you guys miss with amateur/enthusiast cyclists, is that they still want to be as fast as they can be. They suffer and train very spare hour they have, even if that’s 8 hours a week on the pedals rather than 30, to be as fast as they can be. In the same vein with equipment, they want as much as anyone to be as fast as possible. Don’t make the assumption that they don’t care about being as fast as THEY can be, and why this bike will be that for them versus a crazy aero position race bike.
I understand that you take in water separate. But I am curious how much water you use to get the 200g of sugar inside the 250ml flask. Do you happen to know roughly how much water you add so you don't end up with too much volume? That would be super helpful but it is easy enough to use as little water as possible and then fill the rest of the flask up once it's in there
About the endurance and racing category. I have a basic Defy (105 mech), and want to upgrade the bike. Everybody and their mother, be online, friends, shop clerks... tell me to get the TCR, no doubts. Not due to the geometry, mind you, but because the snappy-ness. That the Defy, with the long wheelbase and chainstays, corners like a truck compared to the TCR, which is much more fun. At 29, normal guy but trying to get more flexible with yoga, am I cornered into the Defy? Tubeless 33mm tyres are not enough?

Love.
A debate about morals 10 minutes after Jesse saying he would just illegally stream a sport 99.9% funded by sponsorship is wild
Cycling Sina is the Ceo of the company Flitedeck ;) she is an engineer as far as I know and is financing her project with OF
The uprising cockpit jesse was talking about. Ridley does exactly that with their new noah fast. You can choose from three different stack heights. Up to 100 mm.
Waiting for you guys to stumble across the No. 22 fully 3D printed titanium aero prototype.
Regarding wheel choice for an event like Peaks, like Chris said just use what you are confident with and can trust, tyres as well. Better returns nailing your gearing and nutrition
Cycling races are more difficult/more expensive to televise than most sports which emanate from a static venue.
But shouldn’t that give us more creative freedom when it comes to coverage.
If MMR bikes are only sold in Spain, then they're an Open Mold seller with a regional exclusive distribution deal on the frame.
Reppin the @Sydsquad shirt 🤙
Totally agree with chris’s point on those high-priced endurance bikes…. Their marketing tone does make people uncomfortable
I don’t race and have no intentions to race and I absolutely love my Aeroad 🔥
Another recipe idea for the sugar flasks. I couldn't be bothered to eyeball the amount of lemon juice so I bought a bag of citric acid and add half a teaspoon to a 500ml flask.
An endurance bike a size or two small with long stem and negative rise is super race-able, sometimes faster than it's race pedigree contemporaries, the Falcon seems designed around similar conclusions.
They are saving the Y1RS for the UAE Tour. Women's team were all on it today, mens race will see Tadaj on it, so big PR op.
Yeh fingers crossed he rolls it out for UAE
Always chat about durin ride nutrition (sugar water) would love to hear lead up nutrition say 1 week out how to get the body into its prime before an event. Carb loading etc
Love the show guys!!!
Silca says DO NOT WAX QUICK LINKS Jessie! They say to put some drip wax on the link after waxing the rest of the chain.
Separately, take a look at the Enve Aero riser stem to get around the problem of cutting your fork too low.
looking at jesse's legs I assume he's enjoying the RBs haha
I like the gear in the back ground
Miller lost his marbles with that Basso 🤣🤣🤣
🤯
That 3T looks like a weapon.
Certified fast bike
@@ChrisMillerCyclingunfortunately it isn't, you referenced the wrong tour test, as standard it's at best 216 watts ☹️
I watched the Tour Down Under live at night here and then just watch the stages in their entirety after the fact for the other races.
mmr adrenaline aero is made by adapt(FM49-DB frame) that also makes tavelo frames
I am a GCN fan, but I've come to the realization, I rather like y'alls channel a bit more. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man, though we are very different. GCN = big production team, scripted content, more access to brands .. Nero Show = chatting about bikes the way we would on a ride.
Roval terra clx ii's are 1250g, 25mm internal, and hooked
Random subscriber here who is a Dallas Maverick/Luka fan. Did not expect to come on and have to hear about the painful trade lol.
Correction, Silca own videos that answer waxing questions, say you don't need to wax your quick link.
Great to hear! No doubt you are going to live it, be very interested to hear how you get on.
I think that Silca says that you should not wax the quick link. It should be degreased if it was in package oil.
That is correct!
Yep. Don’t put the quick link in the hot wax pot. You can use drip wax on it after it’s installed.
I'm mountain time zone US and Tour stages typically are starting around 4am for me. So I get on the trainer at 5ish, watch a couple hours while riding, then drive to work and see the end of the stage.
FINALLY a non-guest show!
LOL, they're alternating guests with this format
@@greghart6310 Oh I know, we need to let them know these regular episodes are so much better. The fact we get half as many now sucks.
@@toreycahn9543 There's only so many times they can compare the 2w aero differences between frames. Having it every other week will let them actually have stuff to talk about.
You guys are fantastic
In the US it’s split between Peacock (NBC Universal) and Max. We get pretty good availability for all of the classics and tours, but the timing to watch live is whacky.
I watched the whole TDU because on the US East Coast it started at 7 or 8 PM and usually I could watch the whole stage cause the stages weren’t that long. Watching the Tour requires you to get up early to catch the neutral start.
Still expensive, though. Those services together cost me $45 or so a month, but I get a lot of other value since Peacock has American football and Max has quality TV
Interesting, and by the sounds Peacock had things like the Paris games etc. I’d probably pay $45 for that package
“You’ve given up as a performance cyclist, so now you’re after a vibe bike” quote of 2025 thus far….
Coyle goes gravel 2025!!!
The worst is a certain team that races for change in Rwanda but not in their own back yard.
GC PERFORMANCE, Patrick Lino & Hambini REALLY reply to our comments hahaha not AI or teams of interns
AI Chris agrees 😂
How many times do people have to ask about the sugar water? Work it out, its 2 ingredients, one of them is free. Mind boggling science.
I've been doing it recently. Definitely saving me money.
In the US we have to deal with Peacock for TDF and Vuelta max for some. Flo for others. Messy if you want to watch full races.
I dont know if you guys ever look at geo tables but the sl8 has a fairly high stack and in this case it has the same as the new basso.
Vision metron bars will give extra height over most other bars due to the stem angle.
on the wheels for peaks chat, "Creative" carbon ultra wheels are super light and wide for a good price. ridden by a heap of top national riders and australian run
All that Red Bull you're quaffing making your legs jittery, Jesse?
The question is, how does it handle?
Live Golf tour as well. No issues here
Great bike for long legs, short torso… Yes please! A great option for me or someone that wants endurance geo (sack/reach) *SV
well the price for the Roubaix S-Works was over 10.000 $ 10 years ago
I sure like the way you have your set looking.. product placement is perfect and not over the top. Your talk today was spot on. Thanks.
That MMR Aero bike is from speeder cycling/adapt cycling
They are listed at 19mm internals … deal breaker. That was my entire point, most shallow super light wheels have too narrow an internal for me.
i've been seeing this jigh stack guy in youtube shorts for a month now
Stradale? I think I'll wait for the corsa
Not supposed to wax the Quick link. Josh at Silca mentioned this is one of his recent waxing videos. Don't recall the exact reason though.
I think the problem I. The uk is the highlights packages are also being taken away and put behind the £30 paywall.
Will we see more aftermarket integrated handlebars, similar to Cervelo, that increase the stack height.
Ontario, Canada - Tiz Cycling or UA-cam. Stopped paying for pro cycling races after GCN+ folded
Same here, also in Canada
Cynical?
On top it was a leader jersey
Wtf😅
Handlebar screens, they last only until the next crash!
This can only be a good idea if the 'screen' is a removable 'STICKER' type thingy!
what’s with the redbull
Y’all can leave the commenting slop to us lol
Anyways glad the Brit’s are finally getting a taste of what it’s like watching a niche sport.
Narrow bars are great for people with no shoulders.
That would be super helpful but it is easy enough to use as little water as possible and then fill the rest of the flask up once it's in there
Pour the water into the flask first and use that as your guide with enough room for the sugar once you mix it in
About the endurance and racing category.
The stack height of the Seka spear is what makes me consider sitting on the waiting list for one despite my better judgement.
The main reason for the low power is the cda. They mention a cda of 0.196 of something, which is lower than a TT-bike.
What flask do you use, Chris?
It was one from decathlon
