- Abandoned Mansfield Motor Speedway - Mansfield, OH. Enjoy an aerial tour of this old race track, which closed in 2019. Once home to an annual Memorial Day weekend Nascar Craftsman Truck Series race, late model races, and many dirt races, this place now sits in ruins. Originally a dirt oval, it was transitioned to asphalt in 1999 and then back to dirt in 2017. The racetrack first closed in 2010. It would be purchased 3 years later and just sit and rot. A few years after that, it would be fixed up, converted back to dirt, and held a few more races before its ultimate demise in 2019. The track has been torn apart. Most of the grandstands are gone. Not much remains aside from a few buildings, including the main grandstand, press boxes, and the lonely leader board in Turn 2. The property is posted, but fortunately, I was allowed to fly my DJI drone legally around the track.

Thanks for doing this video. I wasn’t familiar with it, but still felt sad you told about how it was in its golden days, and then closed, sold, and partially demolished. It makes me feel sad. Makes me appreciate people like you, remembering and sharing videos like this. You did a great job on this. God bless !
I miss this track so much, Donny Lia's upset win in 2008 here was one of the best races I ever watched on TV.
I loved the race broadcast audio in the video, it breaks my heart to see a track that could've been a staple on the schedule reduced to nothing soon.
Rest in Peace to the late Bobby Hamilton Sr who was a fantastic person and racer.
A long time ago.
That win was definitely exciting to watch
it would help the town so much too.
the music you mixed this with is very moving. well produced and great shots.
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Thanks for this video. My grandfather helped build Mansfield Raceway back in 1958. I remember going out there as a kid riding the grader and water truck with him. It's a shame its in the shape it is but I'll always remember the great times I enjoyed there.
Grant milliron just recently passed away. July 26 2023. The same day you published this. He was an Awesome guy.
This is where I saw a NASCAR race in person for the first time 2008, I believe I remember
some day look for it to become a land, fill look at who bought it at auction , same guy that bought land by fowler's wood's a sanctuary for wild life with walking path's for people , now take a smell of it you don't smell wild flower's just Stence
Raise hell praise Dale. RIP #3
Time to say farewell.
I was 10 when Dale died.
This has to be one of, if not my favorite video you’ve done man and I’ve seen them all, all the way back to your original OBX driving videos. Thanks for the awesome work. You’ll be at 100k for sure before long!
@@elevatoralarmcoasterandarc1214Farewell to Ya
Man died At Daytona
I was there for the Truck race in 2007. It started as a beautiful sunny day, then started raining around 20 laps in or so. Then came thunderstorms. We waited and waited and waited, hoping they could get to halfway so the race would be official. But, they had lights, so we got to see the whole race. Ron Hornaday made his way to the front multiple times only to spin out and have to start at the back again. He must have made a hundred passes. Dennis Setzer won without pitting. Good race, but it must have taken 7-8 hours. Thanks for the vid.
That race was and probably still is the longest NASCAR truck race to date. I think that we actually finished it in 8-8 and a half hours. That was the race that was televised on FOX 8,then switched to the Speed Channel after I think 3-4 hours of coverage
All the times I’ve been to Mansfield, I’ve never knew this was here. Great video, I would love to see this place.
Yeah, I never knew there either. No one ever said Mansfield had a race track.
It's out by the prison.
Thanks for covering this track. I raced there in the '90s when they had enduro races. The track was dirt then. In the early 2000s after they paved the track, we took our pure stock car that we raced at Sandusky Speedway there. My friends told me you could run the track wide open, so I left the pits and put the pedal down. Turns 1 and 2 were fine, going into 3 was tight, and by the time I rounded turn 4 the wall was nearing quickly! I let off the gas and raced normally after that. My car certainly could have gone wide open around there... Great memories for sure, and perfect music choice for the mood... The airport there is actually an active military base. I found out the hard way when I tried to get in to see the C-130 planes. I was met with guards with guns pointed at me. They politely had me turn around and leave, which I gladly did!
I raced the very last race on ashpalt there. It was such a fun track to race on. Should have never went to dirt all it needed was a promoter who cared.
If You don't like Dirt track racing it's your own Asphalt...✌️
That's sad to see that track going to h..someone should save this this is a cool small ovel track had a concrete pad in the middle too..nice 👍..wish it was closer to me I'd find someone to git it back up an running again..
I went to a Nascar Truck Series race here probably around 15 years ago. Such a shame.
Well done! I remember watching the Craftsman Truck Series at Flemington Speedway in the late 1990's. Unfortunately there is no way to bring that one back as the Flemington Fairgrounds where it stood is now all retail and dining. I did get to meet Buddy Baker in '97 who was broadcasting then and doing a pre-race segment down on the track and along the stands. Fun times back then.
I have fond memories of going to this truck for NASCAR Craftsman Truck race .It is sad to see what has become of it. Thanks for the upload.
I was there for both of the Dirt million races first time I went I was go just head home Saturday night then go back Sunday but I ended up sleeping in my car in parking lot and waking up to sunrise and look out front windshield of my car at track thinking Nothing is better to wake up to ... then the next year I took my dad to race with me and it was one of last races I took my dad to and it great memories I have there as a fellow ohio resident and only live 40 minutes away it hurt me see track like this it like see a love one slowly dieing.. rip Mansfield motor speedway
I want to hug wallie he is funniest UA-camr i love his videos
Raced here a few times in late model back around 2003-2006.
The facility then was spectacular.
The good old late model races where everyone tried to win the race in turn 1 immediately after taking the green flag and taking out roughly a quarter of the field. I worked on the cleanup crew from 2005-2010,then I ran the crew the last 3 years when it opened back up as asphalt. Then did fire/safety in turn 4 the first year of dirt, turn 1 the second year, then helped with the turn 3 gate the final year
You can find truck races here by searching on youtube. They have the 2006 race in its entirety. Lots of big names in this race.....Hornaday, T. Bodine, Benson, Musgrave, Crafton, Setzer, Terry Cook, Aric Almirola, Rick Crawford, Bobby Hamilton, Mike Bliss, Steve Park, Mike Skinner, even ole Mark Martin, to name a few. Phil Parsons and Jimmy Spencer in the booth calling the race. What more could a guy want. This was a beautiful facility in its hey-day. Shame what happened to it over the years. Thank you for the wonderful birds eye view video.
How sad it is!, if I could win the lottery I'd by that track and re open it and make it one of the best dirt tracks around!. There is to much history at this track to just let it go!. Great video!.
I'm from the area and while I never went to the speedway, I know many that did and remember hearing the races when I was near it. I now have a little one who loves cars and I know he would have enjoyed going there. Great job on the footage.
I live 10 minutes away from there, and I raced there in 1996... very fast track
Born and raised here! I was puzzled at first when I saw this on my timeline thinking this couldn’t be! As soon as I got into the video the nostalgia took me back 20 years! I forgot all about this racetrack. Wow!!
I may or may not have driven into this place a few years ago. Nobody was around, we wanted to check it out, and there was an open gate, so around the track we went. Just once, didn't want to be destructive. Was a cool place, I have some neat pictures somewhere of the run down facility
Me and my old man work at this track for many years.. off of turn 3 the old owner Mike was building a draw strip running north to south . The guys doing the drag strip illegally covered a natural creek and construction was stopped after inspectors saw it. That's when all the track problems began.. what a great place it was... it was always packed with family's. Now its just an empty shell . The owner grant miliron past away a few months ago.. so there's no telling what will happen. To it now .. thanks for the video
Best video from you so far! And the first speedway video
Back in the day when the track was paved I really enjoyed the Super Modified, Winged Sprint Car shows.
This is getting to be an all to familiar scene across America. Thanks for sharing, never had the opportunity to go here.
i had the privilege of attending a super modified race in the early 2000's. it was a beautiful facility back then.
The Friday-Saturday ISMA races were fun
I was fortunate enough to say that I got to visit this track a handful of times. Went to a Main Event Late Model race soon after it was paved. There was no wall down the back stretch and lighting was almost non existent. Then an ASA race and a couple of Craftsman Truck races. And last a Kart race on the inner oval! Thanks for the video!
This is a crying shame! more tracks of various types have closed in the last 5 years, shameful!
Great video. You did an excellent job. Adventure on !!
would have loved 2 c the modifieds on this track.
Thanks for sharing. I didn’t know that Mansfield had a race track. Thanks, Avenue Mansfield, a few times, but I never knew it was there hopefully do something with it.
Great video man! I wrenched on a non-wing sprint car there. It had to be 2017. It was a nice facility.
Watched many races there in the 60s and 70s was very lucky to have a chance to race on the dirt in 1994 never got to go back after that😢
Amazing video! I am from Ohio and have raced there many times. Last time I raced there was 2016, then the place was breathtakingly beautiful! Was always a very well kept, updated & spectacular facility. So crazy to see it in this state. This track would race like no other, great side by side, short track racing right here!
Im not 100% sure but at one time i believe the track was a concrete surface. I Only say so because my first trip there in 2012 I can recall fresh asphalt on the surface. Only if this place would make a comeback!
I was working at summit motorsports park but every chance we got we went to Attica and Mansfield everyone loved anything racing all of us was heart broken
I was there every Friday in the 70s and 80s some time in 90s it was concrete then went to asphalt then it started going down hill from there it was a kick butt track when it was dirt 😢😢
What's really sad is for financial reasons these tracks are being left to rot and it's a shame. Don't get me wrong I love Nascar and watch every week but I really do miss the classic tracks like this and Nazareth instead of the same boring 1.5 mile speedways that you can take an hour nap through and not miss much. I live about 45 minutes from Nazareth speedway and if you didn't know it was Nazareth speedway you would never know it existed in 2023. When you drive by, all you mostly see plants taking over the fence and it's very hard to see inside nowadays without exploring in there.
Haven't seen drone footage in awhile. Very good footage! The view from the top is spectacular!
Thank you for this Video as I find it very depressing to see another good race track abandoned. Why are these great Short tracks being shut down? I love short track racing and support our local track all the time.Wayne from Canada
This one closed due to Grant Milliron being a business only worried about money. He had a time frame that he set for the place to make a lot of money, and when that didn't happen, he shut it down. He had no interest in racing
Well put together, great combination of old commentating and the somber music reflecting what it once was in its heyday. I've never been there, but it brings out the empathy in me, hating to see it close. It hits home,so to speak.
In NY, we lost Rolling Wheels Raceway a few years back. I'm saddened and angered for the reasons they closed it. Look for that video and you'll see
Great pics and video, great narration, great story! Awesome job sir!
Holy shit brother, right up my alley!!! Love racing, can you start up some merchandise??? Would buy a T shirt and hat. Thanks man
Definitely do more of these Wallie!! 👊🏁
This one hurts, I was able to watch a truck race here when I was real little, now it's am empty lot I drive by every once in a while
Got my first win at this track, grew up always wanting to race here. This breaks my heart.
I went there around 1991 and had a pit pass. I got there early, and I was walking around and met Walter Payton before the race. He had turned to professional auto racing after his football career. I talked to him for about 15-20 minutes. Super nice guy. I grew up not too far where he lived in the Chicago suburbs. I should have asked him for his autograph.
Now you are exploring abandoned NASCAR tracks? Wow.
Amazing video! The video was perfect in every way! Amazing work 👏
Thank you my friend! I appreciate it!
Please do more abandoned race tracks I love this being a racing fan
Got to see the first ever Craftsman truck series race there - was a muddy mess getting to the stands because it rained like hell the day before the race but was a great race! Loved that track because it was local to me!
Awesome video Wallie thanks for sharing this one :D
Thanks for Always Support Your Video and I Like this so Far Hope You Enjoyed so Much
I raced a sprint car there in 1980. Don't remember much of it. I was 23.
You should go to a race at texas moter speedway the indie cars are fun to watch
Not too far from there is the old Mansfield prison where the movie Shawshank Redemption was filmed. I didn't know this was closed. That's a shame they had good racing there. Great Vid Wallie.
my dad watched it
I have heard about this track years and always wanted to see a race there. Hopefully, it will see a race again. Nice video, brother.
The owner now just recently passed away, Grant Milliron, not sure whats going to happen to it, sure wish someone with some money would buy it and re open it
Another great video!
Wasn’t the Mansfield track damaged by a tornado-in particular the stands-during the late 2000’s?
I recall watching a truck race and it was mentioned that there were temporary stands set up for that race
Because some of the stands were damaged…?
Yes
I’m still mad I missed the speedway in Heidelberg.
Great video, I would like to see you do more abandoned racetracks.
It looked like a great track to race at but RIp short track racing
My Grandpa used to race here when it was originally a dirt track. I got to go to all the truck races when they ran there.
Heard abt it now and then; always a sad ending to something that once was a place to go. Only things for sure is change.
Awesome video. Wow
Very epic video wallie!!!
Man . This. Making want to watch some action from there.
Wow didnt know you were a race fan!? Do you follow NASCAR? SWEET Video Wallie, you never disappoint
Wallie has a Jeff Gordon tattoo.
If you ever find yourself in San Antonio, Tx you should check out the abandoned San Antonio Speedway!
Such a shame, I assisted with some work for the Mansfield Million, big ambitions for the track, and allot of excitement with it turning to dirt and gaining national touring series coming in. I only wish there would’ve been a true clay surface put down, the cars were basically racing on dirt and it was a rough/rocky surface. There was so much potential with this track
Amazing video. Never thought I'd see an abandoned track. Closest thing in my area of RI, is MCCOY Stadium minor league baseball stadium being closed and now abandoned. Rumors is they want to tear it down to make a high school. But this billionaire is stepping in and trying to buy the stadium and fix it up and reopen it. But anyway, amazing video. Should of followed the whole track like you were actually racing.
We used to run 305 sprint cars there in the early 2000s
Reminds me of Palm Beach Raceway, it had its ups and downs, and now, is being torn down, Ran My Car there several times.
I only been to Mansfield speedway 3 times I miss it
You know what would be cool? If when whatever ends up happening with the property happens, that section of the grandstand with the media boxes can remain as a tribute to the old track. Sort of like the old ATC tower at Stapleton International Airport which now stands in a neighbourhood.
Company next door bought land and it slowly being taken down
Someone should buy it and make it black top and do high speed RC racing that would be the shit lol 😂😂😂
Rest in Peace

Now, drive around it. Fast!
I'm a few miles from the place, god i miss this track. was so fun!!!!!
My hero, Donny Lia
It's sad seeing the track in that bad of shape
Considering I live not too far from this place. This feels close to home for me. I feel sad that I never got to go here. I've been to Mansfield several times in my life & never knew this place existed.
I’ve been there many times as a kid.
I was there for the dirt million Lucas oil dirt late model but I remember the nascar truck series raced there back then
Dirt track racing was always good at Mansfield
what a shame, probably less than 10 million it can be a track again
More than likely, it will never happen.
That's like I70 speedway in odessa mo. it was a disaster before it got refurbished back into a dirt tràck.😢
Awesome Wallie
Wow 👌 awesome video
Small tracks in certain area always have problems of staying open .... these days with more money and big markets...😢
There’s a abandoned dirt track in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina called I-20 Speedway, it opened in 1987 as a 2/5th’s mile track and then in 1992 the track expanded to a 4/10th’s mile track. Some of my friends have raced here including my dad and I remember going to that track when I was a kid in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Sadly the race track closed in 2007 because of noise complaints and the track hasn’t reopened since.
Is it off Dixired Road because I found what looks like a abandoned racetrack. Just looking on Google Maps to see it?
@@siltstridersftw it is on Fairview Road in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina.
@@travisglantonthetowerenthusias ah I'll have to look at it again.
@@siltstridersftw here’s a video of the race track back when it was still open circa 2006 ua-cam.com/video/ArK_P_GWzGw/v-deo.html.
Raced there before
I remember back in the early 2000’s they were planning to add a drag strip to this facility but plans fell through a year later believed it was to be a ihra track
It was going to host the IHRA Nationals. We were taking that race from Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk Raceway Park) which is why they have the NHRA Summer Nationals now
As always great video. 👍
Been here a couple times when I worked in the truck series. Somebody told me the Shawshank redemption place is just down the road as well.
Saw some great races there over the years😢
Mother Nature is faster than any game we play;(
Wasn’t this the track Donny Lia had that unbelievable upset win in the Truck Series? I remember watching that race and being stunned at how small the track was!
Yes it is.He had the pass off turn 4 for the win
Been there you’re in my neck of the woods!!
Nice video
