  • Exploring An Abandoned Cracker Barrel. Enjoy a look around and inside of this location that closed up this year. Unfortunately it didn't take long for people to break in. Though there was nothing of value to take. I do not condone vandalism of any kind. Explore with respect. Take nothing, leave nothing but, footprints.

This was so surreal as someone who used to work at cracker barrel. The building felt familiar but off. I didn't work at that one. However, most of them are built to resemble each other.

It’s a shame to see restaurants and other businesses go out of business! Love it when the building gets a new lease on life, even if it is an indoor flea market, at least it is getting used!

It's great to see that you were an early (most likely the first) explorer. No graffiti inside or outside of the building. Not damaged - other than that one small window pane on the door.

Cracker Barrel is testing several locations with repainted dining rooms, brighter lighting and with booths, I never seen one, yet with it being repainted inside, I would speculate this is one of those location. And it looks ugly inside. The new CEO blames the restaurant appearance in the declines in sales, saying the younger generation does not relate to the old appearance. So, she wants to modernize the restaurants with new paint, booths and lighting and increase the menu prices. She is out of touch, this will further kill Craker Barrel, inflation is the blame in decrease sales, all restaurants are experiencing it. So, I guess one way to increase sales is to increase prices, STUPID.... We do not have much to spend eating out due to high prices and if they increase the prices and make the restaurants like this, we will never return to Craker Barrel. It went from brown and warm to gray and white to a cold felling, plus very bland. Awesome video Wallie!!!

  • @theweatherdude

This is definitely not something you see every day, especially here in the south. I live in the town just east of Lebanon, TN where CB’s HQ is located (and home to the original store). Since our area was the first have Cracker Barrel, I’d estimate about 10 or so of the truly original stores that opened in the 1970s were relocated to new, ‘modern’ buildings during the 90s (the Lebanon store that opened in the 60s relocated in the mid 80s and is still there to this day). So for us, ‘abandoned Cracker Barrel’ has always meant one of those original locations that moved to a new building. Virtually all of them have since been demolished over the past couple of decades. The only exception I know of is the Cookeville, TN location. The original building at the former Cookeville Mall (also the only to ever be connected to an indoor mall) is not currently abandoned, as it’s now an antique store. If you’re ever back in our area, you should definitely check it out as it still looks like a Cracker Barrel both inside and out, just with antiques inside! Those original locations were similar to what you see today but with a slightly smaller footprint and different layout. I’m really getting off into the weeds here, but according to a Cracker Barrel Facebook group I’m in, there are at least two of those original-style Cracker Barrel locations from the 70s still open today - located off the Stewart’s Ferry I-40 exit outside of Nashville and in Cedar Bluff (suburb of Knoxville), also just off I-40. Both have been extensively renovated over the years. I don’t think Stewart’s Ferry looks any different than a new CB today, but Cedar Bluff does still have the old-school vibe if you know what you’re looking for. Every other location, no matter where you are in the country, pretty much follows the same layout and design they’ve used since the early 80s - nothing unique to see. Kind of a shame. Any way, great find there! Unfortunately, with Cracker Barrel’s current mismanagement, I worry this will go from being a unicorn sighting type thing to as common as an abandoned Pizza Hut over the next decade or so.
