Saw this video from years ago, came back today. So much has changed since the last time I saw this beautiful video. Stars were just stars for me, small, distant, twinkling away, unaware of creatures like us admiring them, now that I have understood more about them they brought even more mystery and beauty. The little girl in me had always wanted to work as an astronomer when I grow up but interrupting circumstances happened. Despite everything, I will always remember this video, remember the peace I get from it. My love for space and all it brings will never falter, not one bit.
This was so epic and beautiful that it almost brought tears to my eyes. Some of the most amazing imagery and beautiful piano score by composer Bear McCreary. The images are so spectacular, clear and colorful. Also, this may be the first time I have seen timelapse photography that pans or moves during the shot and I like this extra dynamic. This really is one of the most amazing things I've seen in a long time. I'm going to bookmark your website. Thank you for sharing this!
Everytime I turn on my computer I watch your videos over and over again, and I'll find myself just as stunned as last time. I think I can call myself one of your greatest fans without exaggerating.
I have been searching this video for two years. At last i have found it. I'm very happy right now. And thank you very much +dakotalapse for making such an motivational video.
At 3:25 I get butterflies, if you look closely you can actully see depth in the stars, and you can tell which ones are farther away and which ones are closer. Wow, just wow. I just can not describe how beautiful this video is. I wish the world had skies untouched by electrical light when the sun goes down, I feel so bad for the people in cities. They never get to see these skies unless they travel far away from all the light pollution. I could talk about the amazingness of this video forever!!!!
You guys are the best imo,and thank you for explaining how you got the shots. It is a creative use of technology, and also you have caught the attention of some heavy astonomers, and scientists.I guess I'm not the only one scratching my head on some of this amazing footage,Thanks so much!
Excellent time lapse. I'm just getting into these kinds of videos and your images are an extraordinary example of what happens when you do it right. Cheers!
How wonderful that someone managed to catch so much of South Dakota's beauty in one short film. I too can attest that the land has the amazing ability of magnifying the sky.
im not very big into astronomy but your video makes me realize the true beauty that i miss due to the city life lights. Thank you for such a great work of art :)
Randy! (richard bentey here from Vimeo and facebook), as they say in the US, you're killing it here again man! Really fantastic and inspirational work. Congrats again!
I JUST found this on Yahoo News... Incredible work... I loved it.. shared it on Facebook.. an Excellent video to Meditate to.. Thank You.. It made me really feel the Earth as it turns to view the stars..
Fantastico amigo, estaba ansioso esperando un nuevo video tuyo, la verdad que no podia pasar sin dejar un comentario, ya me pongo a bajarlo en HD y voy a disfrutar de tu obra de arte, sin palabras. Beatifull, Amazing.... Tank Randy, fantastic the via lactea
The music really captures the awe one feels when exposed to the vastness and beauty of the Universe. I watched this at home an hour ago, I'm now in my office, but the feeling still persists. We are definitely not alone in the Cosmos. We better be good, so we can earn the privilege of making contact with the rest of the universal family, some day.
Best vidio yet!! I subscribed after MSNBC did a story on you. A REALLY nice production job all around. The music was perfect. And exellent work catching the aurora from the CME!
Subscribed, this is the second video Yahoo! put up that was yours, I was blown away by the first one, Tempest Milky Way! For everyone else, I highly recomend you look up his other videos too. Id give anything to live where you film these. Congrats, Im blessed by the amazing work you have done!
Cosas por las que merece la pena vivir... simplemente ver el paso del tiempo y lo maravilloso que es el planeta. Gracias por compartir y hacernos ver esta maravilla!!! Things that makes life worth living ... just watch the passing of time and how wonderful it is to the planet. Thanks for sharing and making us see this wonder! THANKS FROM SPAIN GRACIAS DESDE ESPAÑA
@dakotalapse Thanks very much for your quick reply. Much appreciated. Congratulations again on a great piece of work. Look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Earth. A speck of dust in a cosmic jungle. Amazing and breathtaking photography. Brings things into reality really, it should also help remind some scientists, who think they know everything about the universe, to think again. Thanks so much for this ;o)
How different we all are... I don't feel the music being dark, I feel it somehow dramatic, and big, as the pictures in the video, it matches perfectly. Stunning video, stunning music, I want it in 3D on big screen witha big fat dolby surround... ;)
Hi Randy. As always awesome beautiful work, congratulations on a fine piece. I'm fairly new to time lapses and I envy your gear especially the Dynamic Perception Dolly. I was wondering if you knew what the object was that is flashing and moving diagonally down right to left in middle of frame in between the corn stalks at 3:37 in this clip. The reason I ask is that in January 24th this year I captured the same object in my time lapse attempt here in Australia and wondered what it was.
@PillowSong Thanks for the info. Being a layman I expected all satellites would be moving at the same speed in order to remain in orbit. That the trail during the exposure of each frame would be longer. Thanks for taking the time and letting me know. :)
"Life has a melody... A rhythm of notes that become your existence once played in harmony with God's plan. It's time to do your part and realize your destiny."
Inspirational! This time-lapse ought to be shared around the country to the public and public officials -- at schools, community meetings... and inspire them to reduce light pollution. Nat'l Park Service study predicts by 2025, 90% of Americans will never see a starry night sky even once in their LIFEtime because of exponential increase of light pollution. AMA declared light pollution harmful to human health & safety.
ah ha ! about 1:28, there is a deer that walked across the light weeds down by one of the yellow flowers. just another cute find from the many, many pics. interesting to find things that happen in the few seconds that the camera is open.
I have some property in the country without any lights about 2 miles from a moderate sized town, is there any chance i can see the galactic center mildly like this on a moonless night when summer wraps around? location michigan. no camera.
Vraiment magnifique je n'ai pas de mots pour l'expliquer j'essaye moi aussi le timelapse je débute mais ça donne vraiment envie quand on voit des images magnifiques
FULLSCREEN! 1080P! STEREO AND SUBWOOFER SPEAKERS TURNED UP! INCREDIBLE! I can't stop watching it over and over!!!!

This is truly incredible work in every regard, thanks for sharing!
Sometimes we can't see how much we are surrounded by beauty, until we see the life passing by in fast motion.

This was awesome and Bear McCreary's score is perfectly grand and elegant for this. Congrats! Does the extended cut have more of his music?
Amazing video and music!!! Thank you for this gift!
Gave me chills. Great work!
@phoenixomen I think it is either a satellite or rocket body tumbling. It lasted about a half hour in real time. That is my guess. Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful.
Magnificent and unique infinity.....
Fantastic!
Thank you.
Just incredible! I'm almost speechless!
Might be the best video on UA-cam!

Great footage. Mind bending distortion!
@PillowSong Thanks for the info. Being a layman I expected all satellites would be moving at the same speed in order to remain in orbit. That the trail during the exposure of each frame would be longer. Thanks for taking the time and letting me know. :)
Great video. Did you actually move the camera during the lapses or was the movement effect done by zooming in a bit and panning in post-editing?
"Life has a melody... A rhythm of notes that become your existence once played in harmony with God's plan. It's time to do your part and realize your destiny."
If you want to know more about how it was scored, read Bear McCreary's blog post about it, link is in description.
