When we were recording this I told my bandmates "I don't expect us to win, but I think this will at least be a cool way to present a live version of this song to the people who do care enough to listen." Thanks so much for being one of those people, I hope I can bring you more songs you enjoy in the future!

I think I just found the video that describes what I want to do with music. I am out here listening to and making all sorts of stuff, jazz, EDM, indie, metal, hip hop, bluegrass. But this is the best description of the kind of stuff I want to perform, I usually play all instruments for my music though and I’m not nearly good enough at guitar to do that yet lol. I’ve been playing a good 3 years but still

We as a band would be sharing a small place in history with a lot of our favorite artists. That opportunity in and of itself is, as Reggie Watts once said, "too filthy to pass up."
Thanks! This was certainly not my easiest song to write vocals to, but it’s incredibly fun to play as a result. Although, my stage presence definitely suffers from how intensely focused I am 😂 *proceeds to stand completely still*
How long have you been playing guitar now? The way you effortlessly play such a complex riff and sing such a different melody baffles me. Brilliant band-- thanks for sharing your music with us!
Hi, would you be interested in telling us the inspiration for this song? I'm curious what inspired such divine sounds. I have my own Interpretation but I'm probably way off, and I'd rather know the artist's intent then go with my own.
I genuinely really like other people to take their own meaning from the songs I write. I think that’s the most fun part of sharing art with people. That said, I’m more than happy to give you a peak into the thought process behind this song. The first half of the song was written about the feeling of being stuck in a town I don’t belong in and longing to leave. (“I’m going home to someplace with snow” I’ve lived in Florida for most of my life, but I’ve always wanted to leave ever since I was a little kid, so this was a sort of cathartic exercise for me in saying “You know what, I’m done letting things tie me down to this place I hate living in. I’m leaving and nothing is going to stop me.”) There’s also minor themes of wanting to do things my own way(I’ve got my own way to die), and that feeling you get when you’re asking people to believe in you when you know your history with them doesn’t really give them much of a reason to do so(trust in my eyes because I can see in 15/20, i.e. not particularly well... but trust me anyway 😂) The second half is really just a silly joke and sits disjointed from the first half, which I feel is appropriate because the way this song was written. I literally took 2 completely different unfinished song ideas and smashed them together, so it made sense to me that the same disconnection should exist with the lyrics. An amateur architect built the world, because we didn’t pay God until the ADs. Basically I’m just making a dumb joke saying that God was technically an “amateur” when creating the world because a professional needs to be paid and we didn’t pay God until well after the earth was created (you know, when churches started accepting donations) The line “We didn’t pay God *that well* until the 80s is just poking fun at the massive increase in popularity and revenue from mega churches in the late 70s-early 80s. It’s a dumb joke, but the real intent was to take a stab at the fact that religion is often used as a way of manipulating people in order to gain money/power and that we should be wary of this type of exploitation. I hope that people ruminate on the line “do you think they accept our cash in heaven?” and hopefully don’t allow themselves to be so easily manipulated by people using their religious beliefs as a means of obtaining further wealth/power. Also, if you aren’t already familiar with it, I implore you to look into the gross misuse of indulgences in the 1500s wherein many members of the catholic church began to exploit the concept of indulgences by simply having churchgoers pay a nominal fee to absolved of their sins. It’s truly a disgusting, but fascinating part of history.
Sorry for the incredibly long winded response. Not a lot of people ask, so I get overly excited when I get to talk about the thought process behind a song I wrote 😂
@@CoryLottSucks first of let me say WOW thank you for such a detailed answer, wasn't expecting a reply like this! And dont apologize for giving such a sincere, passionate and detailed analysis of your song! This is the kind of answer that fans (like me) would KILL FOR! im just helping you get your answers ready for when you win this thing and they ask on NPR xD If anything, let me apologize for this overly long response to your reponse lol. So Sorry, but here goes... So I definitely agree that the audience's interpretation is a huge part of sharing art, but part of me also believes that some interpretations are more valid than others. IMO, the artist lays down the ground work/foundation, and further interpretation should only be built upon that established groundwork. Because you wrote this song for a reason. Something inspired this creativity, these words, these sounds, and if you say "this part means X" its not right for joe nobody to come up and be like "nah i disagree, i think its about Y, not X" So thats why I ask your interpretation first. I just wanna lay down some groundwork and get some insights into your brain. Dont get me wrong, I think the audience interpretaion is a huge part of the fun and the art, just like you say, but to me the artist's intention takes precedent, and further analysis can be built upon through personal interpretations by the fans. Again, just my opinion! But anyway, lets move on to the song! First, I just wanna say, what a small world. My fiance and I have also lived in florida our whole lives, and nearly every day we daydream and contemplate about moving far far away from this place as soon as we save the money. Strangely enough, also somewhere with snow, like oregon, washington, maybe canada. And I think you really capture that mood perfectly with your lyrics, tone and music. In your previous video I mentioned that this song was somehow nostalgic despite hearing it for the first time. Now I see why. You managed to capture and "musicify" that exact feeling of longing for somewhere else, somewhere you fit in and belong, but mixed with feelings of hope but also some meloncholy of leaving the past behind. And you transfered it very artisically and emotionally to your audience. I think its an all too-human and primal feeling that we experience, we all strive for a place to truely call and feel like home. This song really captures those feelings and intentions brilliantly, I think. And I also get those feelings of not wanting to be held back. Moving far away can be one of the hardest changes in someones life, and its even harder to make the commitment when you have childhood memories, the familiarity, parents, family, friends or jobs that you have to leave behind in order to move on. Its not easy, and feelings will be hurt, but at the end of the day you absolutely NEED to do what is right for you, regardless of the naysayers or your friends/family that want you to stay forever say. Im so glad that you can now, at the very least, invoke that cathartic feeling whenever you want (if youre not in a position to actually move for real just yet.) I mean, Just listening to this song is very cathartic in that way, i cant imagine how it feels to be able to perform it for yourself. You really inspire me to pick up my guitar again, and I really hope you have the means to find your new home sooner rather than later. as for your 15/20 line, all i gotta say is its a brilliant metaphor, and no one should doubt you when you got the skills and talents that you do. Ok, I promise ill wrap this up soon... ish. I think its a super fun fact that this was 2 songs, that got mushed into one! I did totally notice that the first half is very different from the second half, lyrics, music and all. But somehow they still fit together naturally, you managed to meld and homogonize it perfectly to the point where they are distinct, but you cant tell that were originally different songs smashed together, just kinda sounds like a "breakdown" or a "bridge" or w.e you wanna call it. (as you can probably tell, im much more of a hobbyist analysist, then an actual one so forgive my lack of nomenclature) But anyway, what I mean is that they are certainly different feels, but they dont feel at all haphazardly conjoined, but rather expertly sewn together. And also i really like how the second half of the lyrics are "disconnected" from the first half as a product of it's evolution, that is just an amazing insight into your songwriting man, thanks again for your response. Ok so I got the 15/20 line, but the whole "god as an amatuer architect" i completely missed, but now that you explain it, wow its like really, really good and deep. not just a "dumb joke" at all. And the line about him not being payed until the 80's is great too. Growing up Catholic (which might I add is a great way to become an atheist), I have no need to be reminded of all the horrors of indoctriniation, manipulation, fear mongering and greed throughout their entire history. You dont even have to go back to the 1500's with indulgences, just look at the child sex scandals that still go on today in the catholic church! And as you mention, these teveangelicals and mega churches that rake in millions of dollars, while at the same time, they hoard it , give bad advice that kills people and use their stolen profits only to enrich themselves, rather than the community. (need we be reminded of the joel osteen refusing to open his megachurch as a shelter for families devastated by Hurricane Harvey, his very own neighbors and patrons) The line "Do you think they accept our cash in heaven" beautifully portrays how all that greed exists for nothing in the end. Its all shockingly egregious. I really love how you arent afraid to tackle and criticise religion as a subject, despite the fact that it may garner backlash, criticism or unpopularity. Incredibly bold and courageous of you. You're a true artist! Ok so let me apologize for typing out this freaking essay, I just also got really excited that you replied, and that we are experiencing such similar and relatable circumstances in life atm. I guess ill wrap this up now. I dont know what else to say besides best of luck with all your goals, in both music and other aspects of life, and that you kick freaking ass. You will go on to do great things, and I think you will be a very prolific artsit! I really feel your breakthrough coming soon, and I cant wait to hear you on NPR (fingers crossed but I know you dont need it) P.S. I couldnt really fit this into the main body so ill just quickly add that I also really love the lines "I know it's cold, in colorodo at least today, I caught it on the forecast" and this whole section "I'm going home to, to someplace with snow, the train's leaving soon, wake me up when we get there" Not just the lyrics, but your tone and voice, and the accompanying music, all together its just a mind blowingly emotional journey. Thank you for this song, and thank you for this reply! P.S.S. Where is the best place I can find date and venue info for your shows? Facebook? also kudos if you actually made it this far... sorry again for the long winded response ill shut up exactly right now!
I appreciate that you dug that “I know it’s cold in Colorado...” line. I’m always the most proud of those little lines that to a lot of people feel like throwaway lines, so it’s cool to know someone else out their appreciates them 😂 Also we haven’t played a show in over a year thanks to COVID, but we usually post about them well ahead of time on Instagram and Facebook.

I’m always the most proud of those little lines that to a lot of people feel like throwaway lines, so it’s cool to know someone else out their appreciates them 😂
Also we haven’t played a show in over a year thanks to COVID, but we usually post about them well ahead of time on Instagram and Facebook.
Did this ever go on spotify?
Is anyone else terrified that they put lit candles on carpet surrounded by rugs?
If it makes you feel any better, all the candles in sketchy positions were at least taped down so they wouldn’t fall over 😂
I intentionally didn’t tape down the ones behind me
