You gotta be careful which area you move to with multiple complexes in close proximity to each other. There can be conflicts between the young people... ie: fights, shooting, etc. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security with the gates.
Absolutely! I moved from chicago to houston about 5yrs ago and that’s what i noticed the pool, balcony, walk-in and they all have ac… and i was paying $587 when i first moved here… i love it!
Hi, can I ask what area did you live in when you were paying $587 mo. I’m currently trying to find a spot myself so if you could tell me the exact name of the apartments that would be helpful
They not all good, lived here my whole life n I’m struggling to find an apartment without bugs, dealing with bs leasing office n etc. so make sure you yelp every apartments the residents will tell you wassup.
Me sitting in my expensive ass Chicago apartment with no parking, no pool, no patio, no dishwasher, no in unit washer and dryer. And they raise the rent every year.
I’m from the Chicago area. I grew up in the south suburbs and lived in the Hyde Park and south shore area for 6 years before I moved to Houston in 2012. The type of apartments you’d see in Houston are more like what you’d see in the suburbs or the luxury apartments in Chicago. It’s definitely available in Chicago but you’ll pay more for it. But the suburbs of Chicago are a lot more affordable. Houston seems to be the opposite, suburbs are more expensive. As for parking, although you don’t have to park on the street most complexes are very strict about parking in their lot. You’ll still deal with towing issues and get a notice on your car saying that they’re going to tow it for things like flat tire, expired registration, etc. For me Houston more comparable to living in the suburbs of Chicago. Although I never experienced towing issues with apartments in the suburbs of Chicago. They didn’t monitor the parking that hard. But I spent most of my time living in the house I grew up in Illinois. So apartment living in general was different to me.
There are still many apt complexes here that lack a walk-in closet, patio or balcony, gym and washer/dryer. I moved from one in Feb, it's an older community (very well maintained) and l just found out they went up by $220 for the size l was in. Makes no sense to me because there are no updates in that complex, only the location is really good and it's safer than many. Also, don't depend on management to tell you if they flooded. Try to find a resident who's been there for a while. That's how l found out that last apt l was in flooded. Management told be no but a longtime resident told me they did.
From Miami and just came back from a trip to Houston. Ran into a childhood and lost my shiiii when he told me how much his apartment is by some area called galleria? $1350 for a MASSIVE 1/1, with all the amenities you mentioned. That exact unit in Miami, and location and set up.....you're easily looking at $2300, starting! 🤦🏻♂️
@@DebraJohnson I moved out to the dfw area 3 months ago and was able to lock in a good price luckily. It was 1700 for a 1 bedroom when I left California.

you definitely have to read the reviews on pest control because the older and cheaper the apartment is the more likely you're going to experience roaches. And unfortunately, if one of your neighbors is not very clean, they're going to have pest which will keep coming into your apartment as well.
All facts i live in the suburbs of Dallas and moved from Chicago never have i seen so many beautiful homes and apartment complexes in my life. Illinois is so behind in my opinion compared to Texas i have a very nice apartment with an indoor parking garage 👌🏽
Houston for some strange reason has more apartments than houses. 75% of the people there combined, stay in apartments, townhomes that look like apartments and condos. That's the reason for the competition possibly and elaborate amenities.
I’ve never been charged a pest control fee. That’s the job of the complex. Be prepared for pest control to not be effective. They come in and spray baseboards and that’s all.

I don’t like all of those generic, modern complexes. It has no character. But being from NY and living in Chicago I can see how Chicago landlords also compete and are actually kind of desperate. But I think Chicago apartments are much nicer. The architecture is way better in Chicago. But what you’re saying doesn’t completely make sense because Chicago has plenty of balcony apartments. Chicago is the last city where you can find apartments with a living room and dining room and a separate kitchen. Not so much in upscale areas
What areas would you recommend?
It depends still, because you can have one block that’s upscale and turn the next and it’s not up to par.
