  • We will show you how to turn your old tree stump into a flower box using a chainsaw. It's cheaper than pulling the stump out and can be a great feature in your garden.

    I think you could do the very same thing with a forstner bit and a good drill and probably a lot safer for the craftsman too. Also, it would end up round for a round pot if you desired to use that instead of planting in the hole.

    I have a naturalized urban 1/4 acre in the mid-Atlantic and have retained stumps to do something similar. A few charcoal fires lit atop the stump (in an appropriately sized can-chimney for smaller diameters) creates a depression that can be planted. My goal is for the stump to decay naturally while serving as a short term centerpeice for the new planting bed around it. Groundcovers planted in the stumps quickly cascade down the sides and continue to thrive as it decays.

    @Wouter d.B. - Is that a Husqvarna 55? How I hated those saws...
    I've had a Husq 55 Rancher for over ten years now and it is a freaking workhorse! Never had one bit of trouble and have cut some massive trees. Good maintenance and a sharp chain is the trick...

    I'm getting the feeling that there is not a lot of support for this saw, it would be interesting to hear other peoples in put. It's a Husky 51, is it good or does it have lots of issues? :)

    As I said to Mueiwark, we should see if there are people out there that like them or whether the general opinion is to avoid them. :)

    Indeed. It was a bitch to start and without decompression knob I often almost yanked my wrist out of its socket, or my hands smashed against the side. Also uselessly underpowered, lousy choke, idiotic medieval front facing chain tensioner and lastly it's an ugly blocky saw..
