Don Quixote is the literary definition of a fever dream, it’s such an incredible experience to read. It’s fascinating how Oda draws the parallels between Doflamingo and Don Quixote, but twists them into nightmares.

I’d say that these kind of videos are needed, Merphy. This adds another layer to Oda’s manga that shows that his work has more depth and nuances than people realizes and it aids in showcasing Oda’s strength as an author which isn’t highlighted as often as it should in the fandom in my opinion. As other people have mentioned, this video series would help you stand out amongst other One Piece creators. I look forward to the next installment of this series!

The thing I find most compelling about Doffy is that as much as no character in the story sees how he really feels about anything, us as readers do see that he feels remorse and pain and empathy. But only when he is alone, and only really for his brother.

I think it's crazy Oda has time to learn about so many things in the world while writing his own story for over 27 years of his life. On deadlines. Wild.

I just don't understand how Oda finds time to be so knowledgeable about so many disparate things and author/illustrate this massive magnum opus while weaving those things seamlessly. Did you know Law's backstory is based on a real place? This man is a worldwide treasure.

Both Doflamingo and Don Quixote are mad men. They also have their opposites; the novel Don Quixote has that impossible dream that he would not let anyone stop him just like Rosinante/Corazon in One Piece (Rosinante is the name of Don Quixote's horse in the novel) . Doflamingo on the other hand loves to destroy everyone's dream.

I feel spoiled by being able to watch this kind of videos about One Piece, not many fan bases can get content this good.

I recommend Don Quixote (Don Quijote) and other narrative works by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Not only his narrative works are incredible among the Spanish Siglo de Oro, but these works are ancestors to today's novels. And he was so creative and funny. It's worth it.

I love these videos. I think this is an amazing way of bridging the gap between manga and books! ❤️

Awesome video idea! I love all your One Piece content and how your vast literary experience often adds another layer to them. And then you make specific videos like this that you hardly find anywhere else and that really add another layer to my own reading experience. Excited to watch!

I would love more videos on Oda’s inspirations - thriller bark had so many references to horror books, there’s so many literary references in other places as well

one of the most unique things about One Piece, is how Oda made a world that can have so many themes and ideas and references incorporated in the story, yet never feel weird and out of place, like they were always part of this world and are not related to real world references.

Don Quijote was a formative book for me. In my country we read an abriged version of it for literature class at a very young age, and being a book nerd I jumped into reading the whole thing.

These kinds of videos are awesome. I love to learn about the influences on my favorite media. It's a satisfying feeling to see the parallels and inspiration in real-time, seeing Viola as an example of the Don Quixote trap, seeing the little context clues that "Hey, this scene? These people? remember that other thing? This is that! And that means..." Please do more.

I 100% want more of this kind of video! You're in a really unique position to be able to look at more of Odas literary influences and analyze them, so if you enjoy it as well that's just perfect. Great video!

Awesome video! I'd love to see more like this. The first book inspiration from one piece that comes to mind is the paralelism between Impel Down and Dante's Divine Comedy, it could be interesting.
