His unwillingness to shoot is one of the weirdest things I've seen in my 25 years as an NBA fan. Physically, there's nothing stopping him from developing this fundamental skill. That's not only about the hustle, you can't hustle out of nowhere. Something bothers him. Simmons looks frustrated af. It's clear, he can't do everything people expect him to do. The NBA is a meat grinder, he needs to either have a break from the game (maybe a definitive one), or go to a team where the pressure is way lower than Philadelphia and specially New York, even this has the risk of him being the "superstar" of the team.
I'm no psychologist, but I think he doesn't believe how good he is, that's why he can't improve, he just doesn't let himself do what's good for him. I was in this situation (and go back sometimes) and I know a lot of people of my generation that's in this hole too, he's just a year younger than me, maybe it's a generational thing, idk. Exactly he didn't change one bit and the league got used to him. Since he started to see that they were figuring him out he took that as a hit to his abilities and his ego, not as an indicator of him having to improve. So after that Hawks series, for the first time he received more criticism than praise and that was a hard hit for him emotionally. He was so used to be praised and so confident on his natural talent that he just collapsed mentally.

If he came into the league as a small ball center instead of a guard, he would have a different career trajectory. In order to raise his draft stock, Simmons developed a skillset that would have the casuals hailing him as the next Lebron. I have no clue if he was raised to feel entitled in his childhood, but him being a #1 draft value did not help. He has to somehow embrace adversity for love of the game n life in general. Truth is, I don’t think he loves the game. He loves celebrity status. Maybe once that status is 200% tarnished, he could dig deep n get better. That’s looking highly unlikely. i'm not a Doc Rivers fan in the slightest, but that man deserves an apology from Sixers fans for how they treated him after his comments on Ben in 2021. Doc saw the signs too, Ben isn't a winning player

I don't know a single person in Philly who likes Ben Simmons. My grandmother doesn't even like Ben Simmons.

Anybody that watches basketball could clearly see this dude was a bust from day 1. Dude had back issues in high school. He's a power forward that was forced to play point guard for some odd reason. He had zero ability to score and had no work ethic at all. Philly fans cope so hard when it comes to this bust.

Philly fans are the ones saying "we told you so" after he proved he wasn't going to improve. It's been years since I heard a Philly fan defend him.

Philadelphia screws another. Mikel Bridges is the luckiest guy who got drafted but got traded on the same day to save his life.😊

U don’t have to shoot to be good.
He was an all star, rookie of the year and all defensive team.
He got injured and is no longer the same player. Can’t hate him for getting hurt

U would think after bens costly playoff pass and legends, players everyone telling him to develop his shot, that he would be locking himself in the gym, taking hundreds of shots a day. Instead his shooting regresses. Mind boggling

Well if he was scared the spotlight would be on him for missing hes actually made it worse because now the spotlight is even greater. Hes likely trapped in his own mind, defeated by inaction and uncertainty.

The minute he couldn't take the criticism in Philly for passing up a wide open layup. Then refused to play because he was called out by the fan's. I knew he was a failed player.

He drops to the rotational player now merely due to his fear of shooting 3 & 2 pt. He should do more layup instead of defensing, it won't help in his stat. Be more confident to the basketball, practice more the weakness like foul shoot.
