Andre: “I played this guitar 23,472 hours a day and gave myself a hand cramp after playing a 3 hour continuous legato line. Here’s what I think.”
Love this channel hahaha.
I put my body where my mouth is lol I appreciate the support
Exactly! And the rest of these UA-camrs' video is about their trip to Colorado or something, followed by a pentatonic jam.
Andre is the only one who talks about how a guitar feels and criticizes anything at all.
yes, Andre has the luck to be able to purchase these axes and we have the luck to listen to him and decide when go for a guitar. @@arunthebuffoon4554
Hey look at that subscription count.I remember when it was 5000.
Crazy right? I remember when it was 2 and I almost had a heart attack from excitement. Then one person unsubbed and I was down to 1. I also had another heart attack.
Yeah, this channel deserves so much more. Each video has a tonne of effort. And REAL criticism!
Most other Guitar reviewers noodle for 20 minutes. Then start narrating their entire frickin day to us.
I'm sorry but why is this video called "I hate this PRS Silver Sky", if you aren't going to actually explain how the darned guitar feels? Click bait ahh videos.
@@andrefludd Yeah man youve been slugging out for years winning people over one at a time.
Man I love that you mention playing on a couch, literally nobody talks about that yet they will go on and on about how comfortable a guitar is. A guitar isn't comfortable unless I can play it while reclined 😅.
I'm not sure if you remember but when you started the experiment in 2023 I messaged you in regard to using Strandberg to overcome playing with a shoulder injury. For a year now I've been playing Strandberg as my main guitar for pleasure, and for work/teaching. I've had 3 (currently down to 1) and they've been great. The only guitar I can handle playing for more than 10-15 minutes without being in pain.
So I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out last year, and I love your content overall!
P.S. Adopt all the cats my man!
Glad I could help Austin! I'm happy it worked for you!
i think he forgot he had some bills to pay is the reason hes even making another strandberg video 😂 im just teasing, but for real this video was just a paid advert and vessel for sweetwater affiliate links and i respect the hussle

This a very different path for this conversation than I would've expected. haha
I appreciate your content so much, not only because you're the most meticulous guitar reviewer on this entire site, but because you talk about the ways in which certain guitars/techniques/whatever else are beneficial to tall players with large hands. I'm 6'3 and have giant hands, and I'd never considered before watching your channel that I should look for guitars with thicker neck profiles or ergonomic carves. keep up the fantastic work!!!
I appreciate that! I’m glad to help when I can :)
You will have to check the new Strandbergs with straight frets, which are going to be priced at $999!
Yep.
Waiting on the review, seriously considering picking one up 😂@@andrefludd
excellent video, thank you doctor.
I hope you are enjoying the wintry NJ weather
Thanks so much for this vid, bro! Helped me a ton!
Thanks for doing these videos. Your full Strandberg video convinced me to buy a Strandberg a few months ago.
Best review I have seen on a Strandberg so far. I ordered one on Christmas Eve and I watched so many reviews before hand. I wish I stumbled across one of your videos first, because it would have saved me a lot of time. Spot on description of how it feels to play the nx6
Thanks man. I’ve been thinking about picking one up and this was super helpful.
I always know your opinions come from a long time spent thinking about your topics. I’m still not thinking of a multiscale for myself, but you make some great point about Strandbergs.
The Strandberg neck profile is a game-changer on 8-strings for me. Comparing it to both an Ibanez and a Schecter 8-string, the Endur Neck is far more comfortable and easier to play on for someone with small hands like me. The fact that it's trapezoidal means there's less neck material to wrap your hand around (even with a similar neck width), so I found it a lot easier to hold and to play notes on the lowest strings. When I have the money for it, I'm definitely getting a Strandberg 8-string.
Plz lmk what what you think compared to the tosin abasi signature larada legion 8
Another outstandingly informative video. I enjoy the level of detail you go into - your attention to detail is admirable.
Thanks, Simon!
Love these detailed reviews! Totally agree with how awesome the Strandberg stuff is! I have the Boden Prog NX6 and my playing is crap but I still find it fun and comfortable to play for any length of time. Feels like the guitar is reading your mind and working with you instead of fighting you. I take it everywhere with me when I travel by removing the neck and it fits easily into a standard size carry-on roller bag.
Great video as always, Andre ! I got a Strandberg Fusion nx 6 with Suhr PU's. I got "the standards" LP's, Strat, ES 335 and my former fav, PRS 24 custom Core, and they are all pretty offended by the new axe getting all my TLC. They just feel heavy and clumsy now and they hardly ever get to feel my gentle touch. So they are pissed off and out of tune ;-) Everything feels so effortless with Strandberg sitting as well as standing.
While I can say Strandberg's are one of the most aesthetically pleasing guitars to see, instrumentally, it is an entirely new dimension in terms of playability, design, and of course, specs that arrive with it. Now, coming from a musician who listens to contemporary Prog with the likes of: Periphery, Plini, Haken, Sarah Longfield, Arch Echo, and so on, there has been a timeline where specific brands have become hot on the market as an exclusive before it reaches out to the mainstream (Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc...). I believe Strandberg's are still the way to go for anyone who feels inspired by artists who are endorsed by or have had a great experience with instrument once before. The prices on the models are pretty fair for where they are placed at. Great video as usual!
I just got the Salen Plini signature and I'm loving it so much
hey andre, your last video on strandberg basically tipped me over the edge on finally purchasing a strandberg after nearly 8 years of hesitating on taking the plunge on one. far and above the most dynamic and exciting guitar of all time for me. definitely sits in my lap for far longer than any other guitar ive ever had. loving the channel bro keep up the great work !!!!
Nice. I am currently on the waitlist for one. Mostly looking forward to the low profile for comfy playing in many positions
Regarding the sharp edges at the corner of the string locking end cap. I took a small tapered stone on a Dremel and buffed the corners down slightly. No disassembly required and it was very easy. End of problem.
Your previous Strandberg videos (and most of your content in general) were probably the most important videos I watched last year. I had to significantly limit my guitar playing for a while over the last two years due to chronic hand pain. I found your videos and after months of research, I finally took the leap of picking up a Boden Standard 7 during a Black Friday sale. Happy to say I'm back to playing for several hours a day instead of minutes with limited to no hand pain. I'm already shopping around for a deal on an NX 7 Prog. It's not all just the guitar though, the emphasis on good playing posture and hand health in your videos was equally if not more important.
All that to say, your videos are truly meaningful, thank you for all you do!
Glad to be of help friend!
Hey doc, after watching every video of the strandberg experience I bought myself one last year, and it is hands down the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. I noticed that playing a "normal" shaped guitar in classical position nowadays can lead to some lower waist and upper legs muscle tension, and I just can't keep playing it for more than 45 min without a break. But with the strandberg, it's never an issue. Thank you for your good work, it totally changed my view for guitars, now I just can't justify buying new guitars without body shape similar to the strandberg because I know for a fact that I just won't play it for much due to comfortability issues.
I have a Stranberg bass and the tunings stability is unreal. It was in shipping for like 10 days, and when it finally arrived, I plugged it into a Strobostomp, and it was solid as a rock. Day-to-day regardless of the conditions it is super stable.
I also had issues with the string lock edges being too pronounced- I asked Strandberg about it and they said that if I filed it down, it wouldn’t affect the warranty on the rest of the guitar
looking for tele strandberg too! cant wait for review
I can't speak to 2024, having bought my Strandberg in November of 2023, but it was great for 2023. 😄 But for real, they are excellent for the price, and the Endurneck is incredible.
I got a boden 6 with 2 humbuckers and a hardtail and it is pretty much perfect…I’m still on the fence with the fanned frets but like you said it’s practically 99% perfect….great stuff Doc👍
Tory Slusher used to play the Strandberg, but if you check her vids, she got rid of it and went back to telecaster shapes. I do not have original Str only a copy but the same body. I do not find it too comfortable either. The telecaster shape works better for me seated. Interesting
I was considering buying a strandberg still and your videos contributed heavily to that. But I know of the negative views of them so this video is HIGHLY relevant. You read my mind with this one. God bless
Well I literally just bought a Strandberg 2 days ago, so it's a great time for this video to come out! But really, this has me convinced that I chose right. I definitely don't have over $2k to spend, and it's my first ever premium guitar, so I'm happy. I was very lucky to get one of the new RESQ:D guitars in canvas white. They were sold out in less than an hour!
I love both my Strandbergs. A 6-string prog and an 8-string Original. My only beef is tone on the prog, but switching to DiMarzio pickups solved that for my tonal needs. Lovely guitars!
I love your channel
I hope to join your Patreon this year, though it may have to wait until these winter power bills stop.
It’ll be there when you’re ready brother and if not I still appreciate you
Had to sub, great content! I would be curious to see how you feel about the new Boden Essential and how it compares to the rest of your Strandberg experience.
I’ve never seen the Salen before. Very nice.
Dream guitar would be some kind of custom Strandberg, 27-fret, true tempered for D standard death metal 🤌... One day
Thanks for this commentary and video. As an aside, I enjoy your playing.
I dismissed headless guitars in the past... secondary to installed values and aesthetics (not that they look bad, but because they don't fit the accepted norm of what guitars are "supposed" to look like). That they can be lighter, easier to play, more comfortable to hold and play (ergonomic), stay in tune longer, and easier to maintain - well... is it even necessary to connect these dots? Now for the search - for one that is available, suits me... and my wallet.
All the best.
Thanks for the long term update, Dr Fludd. I always like it when reviewers check back in and let us know how their thoughts have changed.
Any chance you'll be looking at the new Fishman Modern pickups with 3 voicings?
Thank you for the support! But no fishmans for me. I’m sure they’re great though
Like any instrument...it's up to the musician's preference. I tried Strandberg guitars a few times and I just can't jive with the neck profile. Also just not into headless instruments...I do love what musicians like Per Nilsson can do on them.
Great video like always, I’m honestly considering buying a .strandberg* or at least an Ibanez Q series thanks to you (I’ve gotten into ergonomics alot because of your vids)
Thanks! I am considering a seven string Strandberg when I improve. The weight and fanned fret is a seller for me and hearing your take after reviewing the six strings with the OEM factory pickups helped. I don’t like any of the seven string fanned fret below $1000. I like PRS Se Holcomb but it’s $1200, long neck, extra weight is a turn off for long hours. The biggest selling point is the ergonomic and weight. I love my PRS but it is a hassle sitting in bed or sofa playing guitar because it doesn’t sit right for me and my sudden weight gain from work hasn’t helped. If I’m going to spend more than $800 on a guitar it needs to offer a lot. Now back to work and dieting. 😂😅😢
Love my boden original nx6
Other gear UA-camrs: "I took a quick google and a cursory look at the guitar, here's my review"
Andre: "I sold everything I had and dedicated 20 hours a day for a year to giving you the perfect review"

Your Strandberg Experiment led me to buy the Sälen NX Tremolo, and aside from the pickup selector being a little too close to my right hand it’s a wonderful instrument 👌
Great to hear!
Just my anecdotal experience: I bought a Strandberg last year and was blown away how high I had to keep the action without fretbuzz. I thought it was an issue with that particular guitar so I exchanged it for a new. I got the exact same model and it had the same issues. And I'm not talking about ridiculous expectations. The action on my MIM tele is lower without fretbuzz
I never experienced anything like that. Sounds like a truss rod adjustment was needed but I assume you tried that. Sorry your experienced sucked
Yea definitely needs some fine tuning. My strandberg action is criminally low, I think around .8 across the board.
.800??
@@user-jh6pc4cr9p .8mm
You likely have to set that action really high because of the zero fret. Maybe add a little more relief instead of adjusting the action.
Same. I just ordered a second.
I hope you will test the new Strandberg Boden Essential model , and compare it to the standard, or original 😉
I had my Strandberg’s frets swapped out for Beskar steel.
You got to try GOC! Instruments of similar ergonomics and quality for half the price!
they'll be making the signature andre fludd signature salen by the end of the year lol
When did you buy this guitar? I thought they reworked the locking pieces on the headstock so it is less pointy
Good vid. I would add that the locking mechanism is too close to the nut and should be moved back to allow for the left hand to slide up from the first fret. Also, would be nice to have a similar headstock to the Oz guitar so it could be placed easily in a stand.
If you put the Oz locking mechanism and headstock ona. Strandberg it would tremendously improve it imo
I don't know if this is specific necessarily to Strandberg guitars, but I've noticed fret sprout issues with every Indonesian guitar I've ever played. I did own an Ibanez PGM80P that not only had fret sprout issues, but the neck would never hold a consistent relief from one day to the next.
I'm not certain whether it's seasoning of the wood or what. Rationally, I want to think that the extreme humidity in Indonesia means the wood isn't seasoned properly for western climates that get dryer. The shrinkage can lead to fret sprout. What seems ok leaving the factory suddenly starts to dry out and shrink moving west. It does explain the neck warpage and/or shrinkage. I know every guitar is different, though.
My only gripe with mine is the scale length for 7 strings. Would have like 26.5 instead of 25.
That said: stability and reliability 10/10. I've been gigging it for years and swing it around like a madman and its always in tune and ready to go.
Hello Andre, I loved your strandberg experiment videos as I am planning to get one for myself. I was wondering, are you planning on testing the new Boden Essential? I know it doesn't have a tremolo but it does have straight frets which, as I understand, is your preference. It would be amazing to get your opinion on it, I think you are the best guitar reviewer on UA-cam.
Thanks for all the work that you are doing to keep the videos real!
Yep! I’m on the waiting list for mine.
@@andrefludd That's awesome! Thanks for taking the time to answer
My request today, exactly! 😂❤🎸
The Strandberg’s biggest flaw is the zero fret. I’ve had 2 of their guitars and had the same issue on both. Sadly these issues resulted in tuning stability problems when using the tremolo. Another downside to Strandberg guitars I think is also the trem: the pull-up is blocked after a certain point and came to love my Gotoh 510 on my Legator much more. All other points I definitely agree but I was seriously let down with the zero fret issue, resulting in me selling both guitars and switching to my custom/moded cheaper guitars. That being said, I have experience building, repairing, and setting up guitars. I have the ability and means to “sup-up” lower tiered guitars whereas many people may not have.
I'm buying a Strandberg soon (due in no small part to your videos, thank you for all the effort you put into this) and I was wondering how much a neck-through is worth in your opinion as you have significant time with both bolt-on and neck-through. Overall a Strandberg is worth buying at 2k per this video. Is a neck-through model worth buying at, say, 2.5k? 3k?
what is the b ack of the neck like? Cause what I like is something just a tiny bit more filled out than a wizard neck from ibanez.
Strandberg does not make a hardtail HSS, does it? I've been looking for that configuration across brands for some time now, but haven't been able to find anything I like yet.
Great video!! I'm curious, how is your guitar action setup? Regarding string height, how do you use it?
Around 1.5 mm. I basically make all my necks totally straight, then I bring the strings as low as they can go without buzzing. Then I raise them a tiny bit above that. Generally that gets me around 1.5mm.
@@andrefludd thank you for the response! I really like this kind of details because it lets you know more about how we interact with the instrument! I'm glad to see that your channel is growing constantly!! Congrats!!!
I've only ever tried one Boden 7 and I had a ton of fun playing it but knew pretty quickly it wasn't the guitar for me. The Endur neck was to sharp and angular for me to get comfortable with, I didn't like not having a headstock to remind my hand where to stop when playing in first position. The nut was sharp and the tuning machines were stiff and awkward for me. Still probably one the best 7bstrings I've ever played but just wasn't for me
but sälen is still a typical strandberg 5-way (inner-inner single, outer-outer single) instead of 3-way dual humbuckers, right?
If you like weird Teles, have you considered reviewing a Chapman ML3 pro modern?
I think 7 string strandbergs are really the sweet spot. The neck is weird for the 6 string, and 8 string are huge, and the fluences are really good for super cleans and super heavy, but kind of ass for "break up" so... it kinda fits 7 string playing.
I have this exact guitar, I enjoy it a lot but there's a bunch of finish issues with it. There's even a finger print embedded in the finish on the back lol Its a great guitar but I was let down by the quality control for such an expensive instrument
Hi Andre! i really want to know your thoughts about the Strandberg Boden Essential couse is the "affordable" version, is "the same" as the other big ones or maiby its not worth it at all? thank you!
I’m waiting to get one there will be a video!
Thanks Andre. Did you get yours yet? I see they are back in stock on the strandberg website and at GC. But eagerly awaiting your review before buying!
I liked my Strandberg but ended up moving it along at the beginning of this month. For me, the fact that it doesn't fit in my guitar stand meant that it didn't get played. I keep a stand on either side of my desk and the Strandgerg just isn't compatible with those and thus I always grabbed what was at hand.
The guitar stand thing is def very annoying.
It's hard to find a headless without fanned frets. Had a kiesel with fanned frets and the fanned frets made me twist my wrist weird at frets 1 and 2. Really started messing up my wrist.
Maybe I'm forcing it and need to position the guitar different.
Love strandbergs though.
I can't speak for Kiesel, but my Schecter has a similar issue. I have found moving my hand slightly farther towards the headstock moves my wrist back into alignment
Did you also try a chambered bodied Strandberg?
Yes!
For anybody being dicontent (myself included) about pricing of these Indonesian guitars, Strandberg's just released a new Canvas series which has models priced at $1300. That's in line with other top-tier mass produced brands like ESP LTD and Ibanez.
Canvas white is a color ( limited series) in the RESQ range ( bodies with some defects, so they have solid colors) ; apparently they are sold out in minutes, due to their good bang for the buck value….
@@patledoc And there now is a Strandberg Essential. It will be inaccessible for quite some time but it's just a step in the right direction. And we will have more cheap headless guitars in the future.
@@kotekutalia yep, I am looking at the gorgeous red « astro dust » ( available in June in Canada 🇨🇦)
Hey Andre, I've got a question that I haven't been able to find an answer for, hopefully you can help! How does drop tuning work with a Strandberg tremolo bridge? I've played with other trem bridges where you can't drop tune without throwing the whole guitar out of tune, is that the case with these as well?
You found the one thing I’ve never tested. But I can say that since these use springs like other floating bridges, tuning will be impacted by dropping. How much it’s impacted will be determined by the string gauge and how many springs you use.
@@andrefludd thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate it! I figured that may be the case because it's a floating bridge, as you said, but I wasn't sure if it reacted differently because of the way it's set up. Thanks for the help!
Was there a winner announced on that prs guitar from December?
Yes
I noticed that way too many Strandberg guitars have a lot of issues with the stainless steel frets. The new guitars leave the factory floor while the wood is still settling and shifting size. Unlike most frets, stainless steel frets are so hard that they are only glued to the fretboard without too much pressure.
TLDR - The frets on way to many new Strandberg guitars need to be changed after a short period of time.
Have you done any reviews of guitar chairs? I'm finding it very difficult to find a guitar-friendly, let alone guitar-facilitating chair to use while practicing. You always look so natural and comfortable, is there a chair that you find works for you?
Yes, I actually discuss the topic a lot. ua-cam.com/video/arU3yr8wURU/v-deo.htmlsi=oBLQT2Vdg9V4MwXg
What??? I make this comment, and your chair short pops up! You answer before I even finish asking the question! Well played, good Sir, well played!
Hi Andre, greetings from the West Coast. I developed a calcium deposit on my fretting hand and I am thinking of selling some guitar gear to get a Strandberg. Are the 2019-2024 models pretty much the same or is their one year that stands out to you. Best, Vance. I hope all is well.
My favorite model ever made was the Boden fusion neck thru. They only made them for a couple years. But really, they all have the ergonomic features and you’ll be happy with any model
Thank you Andre, there are new models that cost around 1000.00 and they are available this March. I sure hope I get to play a few and see what I like best. I am a Strat kind of guy. I sure hope you get your hands on the new version and give an excellent review. As other people noted, you are a trustworthy guide. Best :) I started listening to you early on and I am happy that you have grown your listeners. I hope Rick Beato did not give you a hard time for your review of his signature guitar!
Are you going to review Boden Essential? Its only 999$ and no multiscale
Yep.
Ive been trying to find one to try. I might order one, and see. But I would hate to be that guy that returns it.
We are customers just like everyone else! Hell, as much gear as I buy, I’d like to see a company get mad at me for returning a few things I don’t like 😂
@@andrefludd You have a damn good point, sir. Maybe I'll take a chance. I'll use either my affiliate link or yours. 😂
Is it Chuck Berry-friendly? 😎🎸
If only I could get the best features of Strandberg (the neck minus string locks) and Oz Guitars (everything else) - that would be the perfect guitar. I keep their stands right next to each other, but so far no offspring. 😊
Nice video man but I will disagree with ya on the pickups I got a 7 string a few weeks ago and it had fishmen modern fluence and they suck ass big time . For what I want or expect out of them. They sound good for rock that's it when comes to metal they are junk . Weak as hell compared to my sycamore Duncan blackouts on my 7 string schecter . And or emg kill them so ya I'm changing them out soon
i dont like the blocky thing at all
I like the idea of the resq:d models for a more reasonable price, but you can’t seem to get them shipped outside of the USA, which is pretty annoying.
That guitar makes you look like a giant haha
Yea...I'm 6ft, but I feel like I'm 6'5 with a strandberg haha
André The Giant maybe ? ;-) ....Ooookydoookie, I see myself out !
IMHO they are way way overpriced. We'll see how the quality (and QC) on the lower priced Indonesian model coming out is but yea. It makes me wonder where they are going to cut corners (besides not having carbon reinforced neck) when they are already being made in a country where its $320/month minimum wage. Also I doubt they are going to release this lower priced option with a neck through design. Every other major guitar manufacturer building guitars with similar spec in the exact same factory (cor-tech) has 25-50% lower prices. The only reason I'm still entertaining one is 1. I haven't played it yet and 2. I really do think the body style has some cool innovation. I know a particular USA manufacture that also makes headless guitars with better hardware and custom options for a similar price.
Word of the day: SMALLS - small flaws (plural).
In addition to being very ugly with 0 mojo, they are very hifi
They are good guitars but I think they are wayyyy overpriced for a guitar built by cort. I understand the need to reimburse R&D and needing profits but man they mustve streamlined the process and shaved off the manufacturing cost by now it would be nice if they passed some of it to the consumer.
the reason they have that price from that factory is that they have an entire section of the factory dedicated exclusively to building Strandberg guitars, and have their own exclusive team of employees there as well.
@@im3ve1yn I call BS on that , theyre still built at cort, the same company that builds high quality PRS SEs if im not mistaken and their highest end SE model is cheaper than the lowest end strandberg
what strandberg are very good at is marketing ( apart from making good guitars) , the fandom is almost apple like
@@BattousaiMLT at least Strandbergs are visually appealing and don't make their electronics obsolete when a new model is released, two things that Apple can't say of themselves
@@BattousaiMLT I think in many ways you're right. They're really good at marketing and have built a loyal fan base.
At the same time, I think the Apple comparison is off base in a few ways. Stranburg can charge what they do because they have a genuinely unique product that you can't find cheaper elsewhere. Yes, other companies make headless guitars, but they have clear differences compared to Stranburg. Apple also locks you into their ecosystem and makes the transition cost to another platform so high you're almost forced to stay with them; Stranburg can't do that even if they wanted to.
What’s the guitar strap?
What does the year have to do with value? 61 Strats have kept value over decades 🤭 I consider selling some gear to get a Strandberg. Strand Berg means Beach Mountain in German 🏖️🏔️ 😇
